SAVE OFTEN!!!!!

Save before you enter or leave town.
Save before you enter a dungeon.
Save somewhere inside the dungeon especially at tricky bits.

SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!!

JOIN THE GUILDS!!!

Join as many guilds as you can and do the Guild quests! These are very important in character development!

JOINING OTHER GUILDS!

Will give credit for this one to Morrak who posted this earlier today (not the first to post it but we'll give M credit for inspiring this whole thread). To join more guilds have your characters take role ascention quests that will allow them to join a different guild and then go back to the first guild and cancel the role ascention quest. This can be a bit expensive early in the game but certainly is worth the effort!

Sazerac 04-07-2001 12:19 PM

My tip: Get one of your characters specialized in Moon Magic, and get the spells "Create Portal", "Teleport", and "Call of Home" ASAP. Two of these, "Create Portal" and "Call of Home" are available in spellbook form at the local Temple (special items in the guild). This makes travel in the Gael Serran much easier.

Definitely get this BEFORE Dragonspire!

Characters who can specialize in Moon Magic: Bard, Warlock, Ninja, and Assassin.

Yet another tip: do NOT change roles on spellcasters until you get all the top-level spells you want. Priests: do NOT change roles until you get your Vine magic! Wizards: do NOT change roles until you get your Stone magic! Specialize in these, if need be at first, until you are ready to change to a new role.

The exception to this, of course, is Warlock, which allows you to learn all prior spell craft with no penalty. Still, it's probably a good idea to get quite a few spells under your belt before switching to Warlock, for then you're encumbered with learning a minimum of FOUR spell groups, not just two.

CURE POISON -

Learn this spell before you go into Serpent Temple!

Wyvern 04-08-2001 10:49 AM

SPIDER NECTAR and Empty Flasks -

Many players have discovered that this works like a cure poison potion but never use all of them on your characters. You need to save at least one to open the Naga Head to enter the rest of the Serpent Temple area.

BIG HINT:

When you come across a group of Rattkins near a burned-out house, DON'T KILL THEM. Talk to them and ask them about a "job". It's the way to become an Assassin.

-Sazerac

Sazerac 04-08-2001 11:28 AM

If you want to be a Zenmaster, make sure to collect all 4 Tomes of Creation. They can be found at:

1) Tome of Fire: Just west of the Naga's chambers, in a small gated room off the Hallway Maze in the Serpent Temple. You'll need the Serpent Master's Skull Key to get in. Remember to get it first before you meet Elyssia!

2) Tome of Wind: You'll find it in a chest in the Boogre Hag's room.

3) Tome of Water: When talking to the mermaid in Collasium, ask her about the "Oracle". She will open a grated passage that leads to the library. After going down this passage, the first chest you come to (before the library) contains the Tome of Water.

4) Tome of Earth: In Cet's pyramid, leave the room with the "Unspeakable Holiness" fountain by the south exit (the one that leads to the collapsing floor). When you get to a octagonal shaped room with large pharaoh statues, turn right and go down the sloping corridor. You'll come to a room with a pit in the middle. Carefully walk just on the edge of the pit (the areas to the left and right are fake floors that will crash your party downward.) Continue south to a T-intersection. Go right, go all the way through the next room, and go left. You'll be in a blood-stained hallway (according to the narrator). Run all the way to the end of this hallway to avoid getting crushed, and flip the Jackal-head switch at the end. This turns off the crush traps. Go back down the hallway to find a new room opened near the beginning of it with a blue Demon Lord in it. There's also a chest in that room. The Tome of Earth is in that chest.

When you have all 4 Tomes, take them to the Bushi Dojo in Brimloch Roon and you'll become a Zenmaster.

-Sazerac

Wyvern 04-08-2001 11:30 AM

MANTRAPS -

When you first encounter these west of Ishad N'hahaha do NOT lead them back to the town gates while trying to escape them! This will only cause you more difficulties!
Keep your distance. Use long range spells! and do a search on "Mantraps" http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Wyv

Wyvern 04-08-2001 11:33 AM

ELYSSA in Serpent Temple -

Don't wait for Elyssa to finish talking - start the fight right away and keep your characters back in the hallway so you can duck for cover and heal as needed!

To become a Valkyrie (female character only)

In Cet's Pyramid: go all the way as far back as you can (past the Urn of the Black Flame). Talk with G'Ezzered Ra there as well; he'll tell you what you must do. When you come to a room with four exits on either side and a brazier in the middle, go through the left doorway. You'll be in a large area with dark red brick walls. After dispatching the Pit Fiends there, go up the long sloping ramp just south and east of the entrance. At the top of the ramp, turn left. There's a doorway on the left. Enter it and fight the named demon there (I forget his name, but he's one of the Demon Champions that G'Ezzered Ra speaks of). Defeat him and get the key he drops. (You'll need it later). Walk forward and jump down the pit in front of you. Follow the tunnel to where it exits in an overlook. Jump to the other side of the overlook (a small ledge and take the elevator there up to another elevator. This elevator leads all the way up to a very high platform, all the way up at the very top of the pyramid. On this platform, you'll find a sacrificial tray with the beating heart impaled on a stick in the middle of it (yuck!). Have the female character grab the heart (make sure she has room in her inventory to do it; also save before doing it as sometimes the heart falls down and you can't find it again).

I've never been able to make the elevator let me off going down again, so generally I just have my characters take a header off the platform down to the level below. They should be pretty close to the door they entered to fight the demon. Go back down the ramp, back to the room with the Brazier, and retrace your steps back to the Black Fire urn.

Have the FEMALE CHARACTER "Use" the heart in the Black Fire. G'Ezzered Ra will gasp in relief and then finally die. Return to the Brimloch Roon Temple and the character will be made a Valkyrie.

Here is a little trick if you want all your characters to have the Evil Eye.

When you invoke the Eye, one character receives the Evil Eye trait. After that, the invoke icon disappears. However, if you use the Eye to open the door to the Idol of Aku, then close the door by taking out the Eye, the invoke icon shows up again. Have a different character invoke it, then repeat. Everyone can have the Evil Eye.

This type of thing works on other invokable objects as well, though sometimes you have to sell them and buy them back to invoke them a second time. For example, Neptune's Ring (found in Colasium) gives a character the Iron Lung Trait. But if you sell it in Town and buy it back, it can be invoked by another character. This will give all your characters Iron Lung. (Too bad you only get the ring after you complete Colasium and don't need the Iron Lung Trait anymore.) This works on Kerah's Sword too, so if you are restarting you can use this trick to give all your characters the Guardian Angel Trait.

One place where this is useful is on the Marin Rings. When invoked by a wizard or warlock, they increase intelligence. If your characters are not already at 24 intelligence, you can use this trick of buying back the ring to bring them up to max.

HINT: In the Dragonspire, there's NO NEED to swim upstream!!

Once you get to the river, float down the current to where there's a ledge on the right side. Pull yourself up to the ledge, and continue down. (This is the pathway where you eventually meet Kol the Heretic). After you talk with Kol, go right and get the Bridge Crank from a chest at the end of that set of crevasses (where the spiders are with the charred corpse). Turn around and go back to where you met Kol. On the way to the place where you find the two boulders blocking, you'll cross a bridge that passes through the waterfall. Look east (I think) off the bridge and down. You'll see a smaller opening just beneath you. If you jump just right, you'll be on the ledge going to meet Hephaestus! If you don't...well, you'll be on the correct side of the waterfall. Climb up the ladders, use the Bridge Crank on the bridge, and you'll be on your way to meet Hephaestus.

Remember: Work smart, don't work hard!

climbing down: go to the top of the ladder, turn around, look up to the middle of the ceiling/sky,and 'walk' backwards.

Traute 04-08-2001 01:51 PM

Use the Merlin's Shield spell. I found it to be one of the most useful spells in the game. Most of my parties have started as wizards, so it's quite a long time before they get lockpick or the Vine spells Pry or Disarm trap. But they get Merlin's Shield quite early, so whenever they bust open a chest (I always have one of them start with decent Str), I cast Merlin's Shield on the one who's busting it, or even one the whole party if the trap is AoE.
And, even better, Merlin's Shield (as it should be) is a protection against almost every spell, it even reduces the damage by mantraps.

Only for completness of this topic:

INFINITE GOLD (the inn bug):
The following method works safely.
1. Pool gold to one of your characters, let us call him "Guy".
2. Leave the town and save the game there (for safety).
3. Return to the inn. Remove all your characters (i.e., put them into the inn).
4. Create a new character. Let us call him "Chest". Add "Chest" to the party.
REPEAT
5. Add "Guy" to the party.
6. Pool gold to "Chest".
7. Remove "Guy" from the party.
END REPEAT
8. When "Chest" has a good amount of gold, add "Guy", pool to "Chest", pool to "Guy", delete "Chest" (actually delete), leave the inn, and goto step 1. This allows you to enlarge the amount of initial Guy's gold an poll much faster next time. In a few seconds you can have millions of gold.

NEVER TAKE YOUR GOLD OUT OF TOWN (except moments when you have to):
The rogues all around are able of stealing. If they steal an item, then the item will be on the ground after your killing them. If they steal gold, then the gold is gone forever. To make the thing worse, they steal all gold the victim has.

YOU CAN TRAIN IN ALL GUILDS EVERY TIME YOU LEVEL UP:
Suppose you are a warrior and that you have joined all guilds in Valeia. Whenever you level up, you can get INT +1 (Wizard Guild), STR +1 (Warrior's Guild) and SPI +1 (the Temple). Therefore, you can proceed fast in stats and skills. Well, it costs a lot of money. See the Inn bug.

THE WARLOCK QUEST:
You need the egg. The spider near the Altar of Serran always drops one if you are completing the quest. Other spiders need not drop the egg.

THE TOAD VILLAGE:
1. Shinwiki: A bug in the game causes one toad villager to hang in a passage and prevents you from reaching Shinwiki. Kill the villager. This causes only a local havoc and does not prevent you from talking with Shinwiki.
2. The Warrior Guild quest: You do not need to reach Shinwiki. It is sufficient to talk with Ekbu, climb down, and talk with anybody there. You can return to the guild. Note: You MUST climb down. Otherwise the quest is not completed.

adam warlock 04-09-2001 09:50 AM

everytime you level up, make sure you go the temple to donate the gold. It will increase your presense and sometimes he'll offer you a 'gift'

Low Level Parties: Develop Artifact identification and Forge repair skill to save money.

Befre you get these skills, give all the items and weapons of the same type to one character, then when that hero gets (Darth)Smitty to i.d an item, Smitty will i.d ALL the items of the same type your Pc is carrying like the for NO EXTRA COST

As well as the Vine spell 'Cure poison' (which you will need for Serpent temple), make sure you continue with Vine and get 'Cure All', as this will cure wasting disease which erodes stats and hit points in the various dungeons later on, do not be conned into thinking Spirit Sphere 'Restore health' will do this job..IT WON'T!

Saving Quest Items:

If you are NOT running the patch, and you want to keep your quest items (like Ardibren's Relic, No-Dachi of the Stone, Assassin's Dagger, Monk's Ward) and STILL get credit for the quest,

pass the item to another character when the questgiver is giving you credit. As long as you do this before he finishes speaking, you'll still get credit for the quest AND you can keep the item!

Completing the "Living Seed" quest from the Brimloch Roon Wizard's Guild

Due to faulty design, the Living Seed quest was given BEFORE the Open the Shrine quest, making the last quest undoable (you have to open the shrine before you can get the living seeds, unless you want to steal one from Oakenmir (which is VERY difficult and can get him hopping mad!)

Here's how to get both quests. NOTE: You'll need Call of Home (7th level Moon spell) to do this, so don't attempt it without it, or you'll be stuck forever!

When you get the Living Seed quest, go out to the Brimloch Roon pier. Climb the wall there (have your characters jump to the top), and then go south. Get on top the trees by jumping, then jump/walk all along the southern border. Use the map to guide you.

You have to go past Talrik's Cove (the place where you meet the pirate. Keep going until you start seeing sea water on the map again. That's the Lost Sea. Now angle downward and drop to the ground. You'll be in the Lost Sea area.

Travel west as far as you can and enter the Isle of Sands (long, curving path). You'll encounter the Hydra there as well, so you probably want to get Duke Brinsly's 2nd quest (Town Hall in Brimloch Roon) to kill the Hydra first so you can get credit for it, too.

After killing the Hydra, enter the Isle of Sands. Turn spawn rate to "frequent" on your computer. Eventually, some "Bark Horrors" (evil Oakenmirs) will spawn. Kill them (fire works great here) and they'll drop the seeds. For a 6 character party, you'll need to kill 2 groups of 3 to get the seeds. Gather them up (1 per person).

Now cast Call of Home. Go back to the Wizard's Guild in Brimloch Roon and get credit for the quest. You can now get the assignment for the "Unlock the Shrine" quest.

The Scorpion Pit Trick

Again, it helps having "Create Portal" and "Teleport" (6th level Moon Magic) in your spellbook before doing this one. Did I mention to get your Moon magic up ASAP? Of course I did! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif

Anyway, find the sandy room with the big pit hole in the middle of it in Anephas' shrine. (Careful not to fall inna pit beforehand, or it messes everything up.) SAVE YOUR GAME. (Just in case the Teleport thing doesn't work..it's iffy in the Shrine).

Cast a "Create Portal" just outside the Pit, but far enough away for it to work. One of the hallways leading up to the pit room is a Good Bet. You may want to run a "test" to make sure you can 'port to that spot by walking a distance away and casting "Teleport". If it fails, find another spot and try casting a new portal.

When you finally have a working portal, NOW drop into the pit. Press any button EXCEPT the one on the South Wall (the one that raises you up and closes off the pit forever). Fill the pit up with gold scorpions. You can get up to 20 in there at at time.

Teleport out. Now run back to the edge of the pit. You'll see all the scorpions in the pit. (If you're REALLY lucky, you'll see yourselves still teleporting out of the pit, too! Quite Einsteinian).

Firebomb the heck out of the bugs. Firestorm works very nicely here, and you get to see the effect from top-down. Burning haze will get them as well, but it will take longer. Generally, each bug yields about 710 XP for a 6-character party, times 20, will give each character about 14,200+ XP per casting.

When they're all dead, jump back in pit and repeat. If you run out of mana, walk around and adventure some more in the Shrine, then go back and repeat the trick. You can really level up your characters this way!

A good way to deal with unwanted ennemies that you don't want to destroy is to teleport them away.

1- Create a portal an area you've already visited and won't be coming back to.
2- Leave area and seek out ennemies (or let ennemies seek you out)
3- When ennemies approach (or when you're almost dead), teleport them.
4- Tada... no more bad guys. The only bad thing is that you don't get the XP but it works like a charm.

Of course, if you can teleport them, you can probably icestorm them to death to http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

LEAVING D'SOTO'S TOWER WITHOUT "OUCH"!
Teleport and Call of Home work there, but... But you can find the dungeon entrance closed after returning to the castle. Workaround:
1. Leave the dungeon, go to the entry lever of the castle. Cast Create Portal there.
2. Return and jump into the sewers.
3. After finishing this area cast Teleport. If it does not work, cast Call of Home, then Teleport.
4. You are in the entrance area. Most probably, you will see that BOTH doors (outside as well as inside) are closed. Click the lever twice. The first click opens the outside door, the second click moves you back into the dungeon.

DRAGON SPIRE - ISHAD N'HA to BRIMLOCH ROON

When you have completed the Dragon Spire do NOT jump off the ledge and return to Ishad N'Ha. Follow the path down to Brimloch Roon. If you haven't learned the Create Portal and Teleport spells - make them a priority. Set up a Portal outside the East Gate to Brimloch.
You can now return to Ishad N'ha and finish whatever quests you needed to finish and return to Brimloch by using the Teleport spell!
