OK I'm on a few forums, not all gaming ones, and in this particular one tonight I'm kind of pissed, but cannot reply there because you are not allowed to be confrontational or debate with others at ALL there.

Anyways, the topic was started about women who work at Hooters. Somebody said that it was whorish and totally ragged and looked down on anyone that would work there, as if they may as well be prostitutes. OMG! What was shocking were several replies in agreement! One reply states that no father would want his daughter to work there, would rather support her instead if need be to get her through college, and that men will ogle, but it was a guarantee there.

OK, at Hooters they wear shorts an a t-shirt. Not naked, not a topless bar. What is wrong with shorts and a t-shirt? I mean give me a break. I'm sorry, but if a man wants to ogle, he'll ogle everywhere he goes. And what is ogling? It's just LOOKING. God forbid!

I dunno I'm just kinda steamed that people would think like that. I myself have never worked at Hooters before, but I do not see anything wrong with it, and definitely do not link it with whores or skanks or prostitutes, etc.

So what do you think? (and no, I'm not gonna jump down your throat if you disagree with my opinion, just want to see what people think here is all, please be honest )

Hello ladyzekke, long time no see. Hope you're doing well.
I totally agree with you. It's pretty ridiculous to draw some connection between the dress code at Hooters and some kind of outrageous immoral behavior. Sometimes I think people get bent out of shape anytime it looks like someone is having more fun than they are. I like to be around people who are not all bent about their personal appearance,(or other peoples) whether they be a size four or forty.

Hello Absynthe! Yes long time, haven't seen you around for ages except for fleetingly on Who's Online LOL. I'm doing well, hope the same is for you.

Yeah I just don't understand the venom towards, basically, waitresses!

Skanky is as skanky does. If the waitresses arn't wandering about the restaurant 'propositioning' the clientelle then you can hardly call them whores ;) I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing shorts and t-shirt

I guess it's just the name of the restaurant that sets people off. I've never been to a hooters, so I can't comment on the atmosphere of the franchise, but its name certainly does give it.... 'seedy' connotations. But I think only the excessively prudish or the very thin-of-skin would get offended or made uncomfortable by what appears to be a light-hearted attempt at making a slightly racy theme restaurant.

So, in short, I agree with you

A patient and occasional employee of mine recently quit working at the Hooters in Mesquite because of harassment by the customers (it was routine to be propositioned several times a night) and by one of the managers. She was making quite good money (tips, mostly) but couldn't take it any more. She is now working at the local day-care, and for me part-time. She is a very lovely young lady, only 18 but mature for her age. She further says that many of the other waitresses "dated" the customers.

I see nothing wrong with working there, as long as they are not doing it for the wrong reasons ;) but you can bet, the money is pretty good there, I mean come on, what is wrong with a man looking at a pretty woman? it is not like a gentlemans club

Nothing wrong with hooters. Nope... nothing at all. :D

SomeGuy 07-01-2004 08:14 PM

I'm gonna be the first Hooters GUY. :D Anyway, I see nothing wrong with working there, you do what you have to do for money.

Ladyzekke 07-01-2004 08:22 PM

Attalus - Well still my point is that the workers there are not whores, and I guess that patient of yours was receiving similar opinions by the male customers, thinking they were going to do more than waitressing. Definitely sad and I feel sorry for her that she had to quit a job making decent money because some of the customers seemed to mistake it as well for some burgers-and-whores restaurant. :( I guess because of the name that has to be expected, but Hooters has been around so long now I'd figure everyone at this point knew it was just a place to eat with waitresses in shorts and t-shirts, dunno.

As for her saying others "dated" the customers, well that is their option, as it is any waitresses' option to "date" customers if they like. I'd figure that kind of thing goes on equally for any restaurant.

Hello Ladyzeke, well i'm not sure why this topic is being brought up but, I would just say welcome to a world or more or less country where there is a double front for standard and what "we" the people really like to do. Everything now has become "politically correct" and there are a lot of things wrong with this train of thought. Besides its always been like this, and what can you expect, the only reason people would propose that women who work at Hooters are whorish is because the idea of what Hooters is all about and the fact that a woman, as prestigous as she has to be, would sink to a low level (though i'm not sure what). Not to mention we as a society like to think of our selves as morally devout people, who live up to the grace of good and rightesnous, and who work hard. I don't have to go on about how hipocrytic human beings are in this sense, especially by today's standards.

I have been to Hooters once, got a birthday dance, and thought it was the dumbest thing ever conceived by man. It indeed did feel like a family restaurant with extremely skimpish waitresses. I wonder if male waiters work at Hooters...
