Just curious here.

I was reading that JUPP thing, and one of it's characters has a 40% penalty (that seems pretty severe to me). But then I was thinking, and a level from another class would generate a 60% penalty, making the character a lot better though IMHO.

So, just for arguments sake, whats the biggest XP penalty you would tolerate in your games?

I hate the xp penalty and try to build all my characters to avoid it. I suppose I could stand a 20% penalty near the end of a HoF game. I don't think there's any excuse for an xp penalty during normal play. IMO, there's no advantage that's worth it. Maybe if it was a small party, but a six-character party should be large and balanced enough to cover all possible roles without needing to incur a penalty.

40% is severe. I don't think I'd ever take one this high. I'd rather have a slightly less optimal character; most likely, a less optimal character will be a higher level and thus "better" than the penalized character anyway.
