Need some help here. I just started chapter 3. Payed the 15,000 to Gaelan and went to see Aran Linvail. He sent me to speak w/Mook – watched her die and killed the vampire. Went back to Aran and he sent me to the Inn in the Bridge district to intercept a few deserting Shadow Thieves. Killed them after learning the contact was Gracen.

When Gracen arrives I’m supposed to answer with his name, pretending I’m the deserting group, so Gracen can tell me where to go. Instead he thinks I’m lying and attacks me. Of course I kill him rather quickly… but I have encountered other problems with the game where you don’t give it a chance to “trigger” the next event and thus that event doesn’t happen. I’m worried that, even though I know where to go (by virtue of a good walkthrough site) the quest won’t continue as planned.

Anyone else have this problem, or have any advice? Thanks!

I tried every dialogue option. In the end it's always the same: Gracen is dead. But I never encountered problems with that "solution". During this quest you obtain (either from Gracen or one of the thieves) a note written by Bodhi (rambling about the drow and her spiders). I think this note is the trigger.

Yep, you always get to kill Gracen. I always take the note back to Aran.
