How do you get your custom portraits to work? I've read that you might need to resize them, but when I check the attributes, they are the correct size. When I choose the custom appearance option, I can get the name of the picture I am trying to use, but I keep getting the blank screen with a question mark through it. I have added the S and the L to the end of the small and large portraits, respectively. Nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Taken from the Readme file. ;)

quote:
Custom Portraits: The measurements for player portraits are 38X60 pixels for the smaller portraits (8-bit color runs faster but it can be up to 24 bit color), and 110X170 pixels for the larger portraits. To use a custom portrait, place it in the Portraits directory (in the install directory for the game) and add an S to the end of the small portrait name and an L to the end of the large portrait - otherwise the two names must be identical. The names must be 1-7 letters long, maximum - so the filename with the S or L added to the end is no longer than 8 total characters. The portrait files must be in BMP format. For example: XXXXXXXS.bmp for small (38x60, 8-bit) XXXXXXXL.bmp for large (110x170, 24-bit) For multiplayer, each player must have a copy of the portraits, otherwise they will see a blank icon instead of the other player's custom portraits. You will need to manually send these portraits to your friends as BG2 has no method of transferring them.

|
That's the same info I have and I can't get it to work. I've tried using s and S or l and L. I've tried three letter names up to seven letter names. Nothing seems to work. I'll try to download a couple more pictures and use them. Maybe it's the picture I have.

Have you restarted the game after adding in the portraits?

? Can you e-mail me the portraits you are trying to use? I will check and see if they are a-okay.

When I went to attach the files to the e-mail, I noticed it was saved as LadyDL.bmp.bmp I just opened it with paint and saved it under a different name. Works now. Thanks. Edit: Did you receive my e-mail? |
Mitro, I'm glad that worked for you, but it's Greek to me :(

Other than that, have you checked the properties on them? If they are the right size, open them in a paint program and save them as a different name, with a capital L (large) and S (small) at the end. I don't know how my .bmp got doubled up at the end, but that was the final problem. |
