I have a very strange problem with speech. I have the install problem where it asks you to insert
disk 1 but doesn't recognize it, so I did a minimum install and copied the speech and music onto the drive, leaving the movie on the CD. I then modified my 'sspath.dat' file to have it point the program at the new locations of the speech and music (e:\ww\speech, e:\ww\music). The problem is, I don't hear any speech in the game. I am positive that I am pointing the program to the correct directory, and I am positive all the files are there. If I point the game to CD2 for speech, I get speech. My sound and video drivers are all current, and this happens in both the software and hardware versions of the game.
The game is broken as far as keeping speech on the CD, however. I get about a 2-3 second pause as the drive spins up to play the speech where the screen is frozen, but enemies continue to attack.

I found that sometimes I would hear the NPCs talk and sometimes I wouldn't so it may have nothing to do with your pointing the program to the correct directory. I just left it at that as it didn't seem all that important to me to be able to hear them as long as I could read what they what they said. Wish there was a way to speed up what they say too.
