I need somebody with an Internet connection higher than 56k dial-up for a host. My brother and I have tried to run a game before without much luck. I'm on a Linksys router and he has dial-up. A third player would help with the flow of gameplay as well; so if anyone's interested on meeting at most twice a week, please PM me and we can make arrangements.

Bump for all those good folks who might have missed it.

You wont get a performance increase from a different host. Problem is that 56K connection, that wont go away no matter how many people are playing. The person with the 56K will always get worse performance.

Your best option would be to invest in a pair of LAN cards and a crossover cable. That way you can bring your PCs together and take the internet out of the equation.

If your to far apart to do that, upgrade the 56K connection to DSL or Cable.

Actually, I'm the one experiencing performance problems. He can't get cable because he lives way over in Kentucky, on top of a hill/mountain (close to it anyways, there's no cable up there), and he can't afford DSL.

Are you hosting the game from the 56K side? In that case everyone else will get crap performace. Host it yourself. The worst connection with that setup is 56K. The worst connection the other way around is 33.6K, cos 56K modems dont get full speed for upload.

Whatever you do you wont get a very good game, but it should be playable.

If you are hositng the game youself and still getting crap performance, you have a problem. Possibly increasing virutual memory and cache size will help, but probably calls for a machine upgrade. Withous specs theres not much I can advise.

The other thing is that IWD2 lists cable/DSL as a minumum connection for multiplayer. 56K will work to a point, but it will suck.

I can't host it through my end because I'm on a router, so that leaves my brother with the 56k. That's why I came here asking for someone with a faster connection.

There's nothing wrong with my computer, and it doesn't need to be upgraded.

I'd be more than willing to host any game that I am allowed to participate in. I live in San Francisco, but my ISP is very generous with upstream speeds, which stayed above 600 kbs in all the web-based tests. For any 56k client, the cutoff would be their download speed and not my upload speed.

Holy crap, this is two years ago.

Thats ALWAYS the problem!! If your not on top of Scafell Pike or in the Himalayas, your in a village/town that 99.99999% of the people in the country havent even heard of (even if you live less then a mile away from the most haunted house in the county!). :(

It's tough, especialy if you live in England (England RULES:)!) and the other person/people live in either:

a.Australia
b.North America
c.South America
b.China
e.Canada

If its posible, can I join your multi-player game??!! Please?!

I guess that since the original supposed organizer could be far from Icewind Dale 2 by now, in his interests, I should start gathering a multiplayer party myself. Yes.. anyone's welcome and I'm looking for a leader, if it's possible to have a leader that's not hosting (as the manual states). I'm looking for a total of 4-6 people, so only one character is controlled by any one player.
