I decided after a long hiatus to install NWN and both expansions on my new PC so that I could enjoy some of the newer community mods. The following are my system specs:
XP w/SP2 Athlon 64 3200+ cpu 2 gigs of DDR 3200 RAM M-Audio Revolution 5.1 sound card X800 GTO 256 meg video card with latest Catalyst driver View Sonic LCD screen I can run Dungeon Siege II, C&C Generals and even Divine Divinity patched with no issues at all. But when I go to load NWN at the Menu screen (not the very first screen that pops up but the one where you have the options of "new," "load," etc.) I keep getting the infamous error report and Windows must shut it down. By the way, when I stalled this game - twice - I shut down my firewall, spy sweeper, and anti-virus programs. 1. I've tried it in game version 1.59 (the one it shipped as) and the latest 1.67. Same thing. 2. Both installs were clean and all indication was that all files took and it still will not play. 3. I shut down my firewall, but that didn't help. Anyone have any clues? Advice? Atari's tech help is no help at all. Thanks. |
Check your video settings, or run the configuration utility on that first run screen, and let it configure it itself. Not sure if that will help, but it may.

First, I suggest you upload the drivers for your sound and video card. Second, I suggest you Google around. This game is so old, there isn't an issue that hasn't been solved at least once yet. ;)

Drivers for both sound and video cards are the latest. I put the resolution back to 800x600 which is the recommended setting (I hate it). I'm still getting the same old problem.

Can games be loaded in safe mode? I have no idea, but maybe you have to bypass something invisible in your system...

What do you use for antivirus software? Was it on at the time? I use one that loves to mess with any kind of game. When I say "mess with", I mean it completely corrupts the game file and it has to be reinstalled.
You could try this, as it's worked on other games for me in the past: 1. Uninstall game. 2. Run Spybot 3. Run CCleaner and check for registry issues. 4. REBOOT. If you don't do this and try to reinstall, you've just wasted the first three steps. 5. Reinstall. You never know, it might work for your NWN issue. |
I had my firewall, anti-virus, and spysweeper turned off for both installs. Same problem occurs.
When I have time I'll attempt several differing steps. Thanks everyone and I'll take allthe suggestions you can send my way. |
