I just did this one last week for the author of a NWN MOd, "Aribeth's Revival." It shows her bathing at the end of the mod, guarded by the PC.

And, here is a picture of her looking stern at the beginning.

This is her portrait:

very neat attalus! is that colored pencil?

Sir Goulum 06-11-2005 10:37 PM

I believe he uses pastels. As I said on the Oasis, very nice Attalus!

Attalus 06-13-2005 07:55 PM

Thanks, Rev and Sir G. #1 and #3 are pastel, #2 is ink and colored pencil.

Attalus 06-13-2005 11:06 PM

Here is one that I just finished today.

Attalus 07-01-2005 04:39 PM

Oh, I finished this, today, so I'll post it, here.

I like it! You did a really good job with the skeletons. They actually look like... well.... skeletons. I'm just wondering, did you use blue because you didn't have any black, or did you want to use blue?

Attalus 07-02-2005 07:35 PM

Thanks, I was pleased with them. I outlined the bones in Prismacolor Terra Cotta and made the rest in Cream.
I've forbidden myself from using black, because in crayon it gives everything a grimy look. The scanner makes everthing look bluer than it is. In the original, the pillar is actually violet and the shadows are quite dark.

Sir Goulum 07-03-2005 11:58 AM

Ah, ok. I just noticed everything was a bright navy blue, and sorta thought that's a little weird for dark shadows. ;)

Attalus 07-03-2005 04:13 PM

It kind of looks like the pillar is glowing. Maybe it's magical? :D

Attalus 07-08-2005 11:30 AM

Just finished this one. A lot of people say it's my best one yet.

Sir Goulum 07-08-2005 04:37 PM

Yes, the reflections on the armor is really well done. The sword as well. I'd agree, it's one of your best for sure!

Attalus 07-08-2005 07:21 PM

Thanks a lot! May you have a great weekend!

Attalus 07-09-2005 02:02 PM

Oh, and here is my entry for RevRuby's "Fenix" contest. Not my usual line, but it keeps you from getting stale.

RevRuby 07-09-2005 10:40 PM

are you gonna post that on da at all?

Attalus 07-10-2005 12:17 PM

I dunno. Do you think I should?

RevRuby 07-10-2005 08:13 PM

would make it easier to link to on my journal, lol

Attalus 07-14-2005 01:28 PM

Here is my latest. Started with http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ethResting.jpgand ended up with http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ingIII0069.jpg

Sir Goulum 07-14-2005 03:58 PM

Wow... is that over the same drawing, or did you redraw it and then color?

Attalus 07-14-2005 06:37 PM

Thanks. Redrew the whole thing, with no outlines.

Sir Goulum 07-14-2005 08:03 PM

No outlines? Wow! With my drawings, I try my best to make it as seemless as possible, no lines at all anywhere, but I find I always end up having to draw in a faint outline, at the very least, just to keep proportions, and shade lines in place.

Attalus 07-15-2005 04:18 PM

I used to do that, obviously, but I have been convinced that a sharp demarcation between tones is far more realistic than an outline. As realistic as you can get, anyway.

Sir Goulum 07-15-2005 06:23 PM

Well, it's not like my outlines were thick or anything. Often times, I lose where them after coming back to it or something. ;)

Attalus 07-16-2005 10:55 AM

Yeah, that's what they tell you to do in pencil: shade them into your other tones. But, you can't do that with ink, and that's why I'm dropping it, for now.

Sir Goulum 07-16-2005 12:41 PM

Well, with ink, you just work on the shadows to make the shape of everything.

Attalus 07-18-2005 06:30 PM

True, but ink is so there. This, for example, is my latest, pure graphite (on vellum Bristol board, of course).

1 quick question: Do you smudge the pencil stuff?

Attalus 07-19-2005 09:49 AM

Oh, yes. I use small and medium tortillions as well as very large double-ended smudging sticks. They are cheap and very effective. I don't use my thumb, as I find that adds oil to the paper surface, making it harder to manipulate.

Sir Goulum 07-19-2005 03:47 PM

Yuck! One of the first things they tell us (and what they constantly told my teacher in university) is not to smudge. I used to, and when I stopped and made myself create shadows without smudging, they started to look a lot better. Just a little tip for you.

Attalus 07-19-2005 06:46 PM

LOL, all my books, including the ones that have been th most valuable, have recommended smudging. Why do you think they make tortillions?

Sir Goulum 07-19-2005 07:03 PM

Well, I find anyways that my drawings looked a LOT better when I stopped smudging. I get more control, and better gradation into the shadows that way. Try it sometime, at least... you might be surprised.
Well... I don't know. ;) Maybe they are used for charcoal as well?
