themost stupidest thing I have done...downloaded a browser toolbar witout checking it out, it turned out to be a doorway for hackers, and now I have missing case files :( ....stipid........stupid.........and it shows that I was attacked 4 times by hackers, so if you have or come across anything that says MARKETSCORE get rid of it quickly

Stormymystic 05-28-2003 11:31 AM

oh and if anyone has any idea on how I can get the case files back, please explain it to me, it tries to do it on its own, but then says that te download can not proceed and I am having lots of problems with the computer not wanting to respond

The files if the hackers deleted them are probably gone..I would got to http://www.stopscum.com to check for other stuff, use adaware and clean up your system ASAP.

Edit: If you have norton Utilities they have a thing for finding files that were erased but not written over.</font>

Run spybot, run adaware. When your system is clean, you can try something like Pheonix (Ill dig up the link) to get the files back, but I know of no free way to do it on a windows system.

Heres it:

http://www.stellarinfo.com/data-recovery.htm

Run it, for a deleted file basic search may turn up something, advanced search takes hours but will find every file its possible to recover, hopefuly including your missing case files. Unfortunately, in order to actualy recover the files you need to register the program, which is $90 IIRC.

If you have a second machine I would say to transplant the HDD into it and run it as a slave, if you try and run the program on the drive your recovering from you may wind up overwriting the remnants you are looking for.

1)Shoot Stormymystic (as requested):
2)Read first post:____

On another note; I'm no specialist on the topic, but when hackers have your IP it might be wise to cut your internet connection for awhile and get a good firewall. Are you on Cable or Standard Modem?

your wish is my command.*bang*

Sorry to hear that, Stormy. Especially after the grief I had last month... :(

Get Adaware and Spybot S&D. While you're working on the machine, disconnect from the internet. Also run a full virusscan just to be safe.

I'm not sure what you mean by case files. If you're referring to data files on your system related to a case, you can check the deleted items folder or try one of the undelete utilities mentioned. Just do as little as possible until then; everything you do has a chance of overwriting some sector that used to have a file.

If you mean files for a particular application, those are generally reloadable... somehow...

In all cases, it's a testimony to the value of a good backup plan. In fact, I think I'm going to do one tonight, just on general principles.

Peace.

I have adware, spybot and stopsign, and everything from these guys are distroyed..but stillno luck on the missingfile

the case files I am refering to are system case files :( and can not find anything on them I do not have $90 to spend, so I am pretty much lost right now

<font color=skyblue>You seem to be developing a habit for this sorta thing. Hackers all over the world are online in instant messaging windows saying, "<font color=yellow>Dude! Shes back for more! What should we do this time!</font>"

If you have not realized it yet...the guys and gals that make up IronWorks are some of the smartest bunch on the net, and know how to keep you safe and running. How about asking thier permission before doing anything else that will send you back here with more disaster stories! We actually do not like seeing all these posts of pain and woe from you. We would much prefer you talking up stories of success and happiness through making the right choices!

Good luck.</font>
