On my record sheet i have 5/2 attacks per round with my celestial fury, and 4 attacks per round with my tuigins bow (the one from the beast keeper in the copper coronet) but in the game when attacking someone he seems to make about 6 attacks really quickly per round with only about 3 of them actually attacking (i have it set so that my attack rolls are shown in the dialog box, so the i can see exactly when my guy attacks) and the same goes for my bow, it looks as if the bow is letting off about 6 arrows per round but only attacking with 2 of them. Is my game bugged or are those extra attacks just 4 decoration, if so then why arent i also doing my 5/2 attacks per round instead of 3?!
Also, just how long is exactly one round (real time) |
Oh jeee
Got any easy questions you need answered? hehe |

Well, I've never seen it happen with ranged weapons but I know
what the deal is with the melee weapons. When in a melee fight, your char does cosmetic swings (I think that's what it's called in the manual). They're used to fill up the rest of the round so your char doesn't just stand still in the middle of a massive brawl. This way it's suppossed to look like your char is parying and dodging while in the fight. The more attacks per round you get, the more the attacks will become "real" attacks. |
OK, so how many attacks then my lvl 18 berserk has really? He has by now 3 "stars" in 'Two Weapon Style' and 5 "stars" in 'Longsword' (and I think 1 or 2 "stars" in 'Katana'). On the char screen, it shows '9/2' attacks per round. So how much it is? 4.5? In the dialogue window during the combat I have seen him make some 3 or so "real" attacks, which can land, before the enemy makes an attack. It's confusing, because with the amount of attacks, he should be like an walkin' UZI heh..
Need to check, I remember seeing him have 5 attacks per round with some weapon combo, forgot which. But yeah, he seems to be 'slicing the air' in the game more then he actually hits |
9/2 attacks per round means your character attacks 5 times one round, 4 the other, and so on.
Regarding the "cosmetic swings", they make pretty tough to find out exactly how much you are hitting, even with the attack roll shown on screen. I would rather have the character parry and duck and so when you are not attacking so it just shows your "real" attacks. In theory the round is 6 seconds. I measured it and it is pretty accurate, so I guess the engine is fine. I forgot... in AD&D the round is one minute long (too much!), but in the new version D&D it is 6 seconds, as in the majority of P&P RPGs. [ 11-19-2001: Message edited by: norompanlasolas ]</p> |
The time in BG is ten times as fast as in real, thus a round takes 6 seconds (instead of 60s in PnP) and a turn takes 1 min (instead of 10 min). A day then takes 2.4 hours to complete (= 144 min).
I still remember the Ultima underworld series and Daggerfall, where the time went as fast or slow as in reality... Man, what a life, sleeping every 3-6 hours ;) |
