My party is biding time until Anomen gets his chance to pass the test. Came across this quest. Is the improved Mace really worth it? What abilities does it have (over and above the "normal" Mace). And where can I upgrade the Mace (in BG2 or is this a ToB thing)?

The improved mace is good, I don't know it's exact stats. You can do the quest anyway without the ilithium, here's how (spoiler)

Ask the ore merchant to tell you where the ilithium dealer is and to make the alloy just in case. Get the real ilithium and upgrade the mace at Cromwell's. Give the alloy to the church since Sarles won't accept it, as a sculpture. I think you get the same experience if you gave Sarles the real ilithium plus you get a good undead mace.

trying to beat Neb to get the illithium but I cant find him in the house. He quaffed a potion and now I think he's invisible. I used Jan's goggles to detect invisible but no dice. Anyone have any suggestions?

never mind. Neb showed himself and promptly got his butt whooped. =)

The only new ability that the improved mace has is that you are immune to level drain when weilding it (the Illithium keeps the vamps from draining you). IMO, it's definitely worth it, especially when they surround you.

It's also got a further +1 to hit and damage, and hits as a +4 weapon against undead http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif The level drain immunity is definately worthwhile, and will prove useful all though SoA and ToB.

I'm afraid not, once this quest is over, you cannot obtain any more real illithium.

I'm a little bit confused about this quest. I heard about even if you give him fake ore, a priest in temple can still be happy with it and give you xp right??

You're giving the fake ore so temple will never have a wonder isnt it bad? Any ideas?
