At 1st level, a fighter has 1 10-sided dice worth of hit poinjts (+CON bonus). At 2nd level, he as TWO 10-sided dice of hit points
After Name level (9th), he gets a fixed amount of points - fighters get 3 per level above 9 Multi-class: Example: Fighter/Cleric Upon attaining Cleric level he gains D8 divided by number of levels, i.e., 1-8/2 The last of his classes to attain that level gains half its hit dice (half D10 for a fighter) + CON bonus It's simpler in 3rd Edition - EVERY race does the same thing - upon attaining a class level, they choose which class to put it i n(there's penalties for having too many classes though) - they gain that classes' Hit Dice WHATEVER level they may be (+CON bonus), e.g., a 25th level fighter will have 25D10 hit points ------------------ In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is pimp. When multiclassed, you get half the HP of the class you have levelled up in. If your character was a fighter(d10)/thief(d6). If the fighter class levelled up, he would get half of the maximum hit points allocated to a fighter (half of 1d10) so would roll between 1 and 5 hit points + constitution bonuses. Similarly, the thief levelling up would get 3 hit points (half of 1d6) + constitution. If you levelled up both at the same time, you would roll (1d10 + 1d6) / 2 = 8 max hit points plus any constitution bonuses added.
At level 9, constitution bonuses no longer apply and fighters/rangers/paladins get 3 HP per level, thieves/bards/clerics/druids get 2 and mages get 1. So the 9d10 + 6 you would see for an eleventh level warrior means they have rolled a 10 sided dice 9 times (with constitution bonuses) and then +3 for levels 10 and 11. Hope this helps |
Ok, let me see if I understand this right,
if you have a fighter at level 2 then you roll 2d10 so you can get up to 20 extra hp if you're lucky? And at level 9 you roll the 9 times, does this mean you can get 90 hp extra or am I totally wrong? I've got the 3E PHB but it doesn't help me here http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif So what's the max hp a paladin/ranger/fighter can have at say level 20? What about the other classes? Thanks |
those are the TOTAL dice - at level 2, the fighter gets an additional 1-10 HP, giving a TOTAL of 2-20 points - yeh - these are 2nd edition rules unfortunately

If you are multi class you do NOT get the full con bonus for your hit points it is divided by the number of classes you are playing.
i.e Cleric/fighter gets d10/2 hit points per level for the fighter and d8/2 hit points per level for the cleric. If he had say 16 con he would get an extra one hp for each fighter level and one extra hp for each cleric level-a total of +2, which is the same he would get if he were a single class character. |
I'm a little slow in understanding http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
those are the TOTAL dice - at level 2, the fighter gets an additional 1-10 HP, giving a TOTAL of 2-20 points - yeh - these are 2nd edition rules unfortunately Let me see again, with total you mean that the fighter can have a max of 20 hp at level 2 or that the score of 2-20 is added to the prevoius hp? Does he roll a d10 two times and then pick one?, or do the two dices add up? Sorry... |
At level one your fighter gets 1d10 hit points
At level 2 he gets a further 1d10 hit points. He now has 2d10 hit points in total At level three he gets an extra 1d10 hit points giving him a total of 3d10 hit points. And so on. He also gets his con bonus every level until level 9 (I think) |
ahaaaa! I get it now! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/xyxwave.gif
