Is there anywhere you can actually FIGHT Elminster? I tried to attack him when i met him at bg but he just walked away...

No, and it's a good thing he won't. He's a cleric-mage level 29/30. :)

Elminster isnt a cleric/mage well not in BG1 at least, according to the Game Manual Elmister is a wizard 29th level, so it would be more thn likely tht is wat he is in the game
