the previous thread is here:

Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Got up our Christmas tree and we wrapped a few things but I have alot more to do!

dplax 12-12-2004 03:54 PM

I had a pretty bad-ish weekend. I have two exams coming up next week and I should really have studied a lot for them, but I just don't manage to motivate myself to study. I managed to get four hours done in the whole weekend. Does anyone have any ideas as to how you can get yourself some motivation?

Edited to remove first postishness.

You're prepared! We not only haven't got a tree, I haven't even bought any presents yet...[note to self: Do that on Christmas Eve]

I always find, leaving my computer turned off, and pretending it doesn't exist, helps. If I turn my computer on, I always end up losing concentration and begin playing on a game. How does this motivate, you ask? Well, don't tell me you have anything better to do than post on this forum. If you can't post, you might as well do some studying.

dplax 12-12-2004 04:07 PM

That might help Blunderbuss, but I need the computer to talk with those with whom I do the exams over MSN.

Blunderbuss 12-12-2004 04:21 PM

Can't think of anything else to suggest but...Good luck with the exams :D

Attalus 12-12-2004 04:23 PM

Ah, you are doomed, then. Good afternoon. We are about to leave on a family hike.

dplax 12-12-2004 04:24 PM

Thanks. I might need luck more than usual if I don't get to study until then...

Attalus got in first so I'll add that I was referring to Blunderbuss' post.

Patrick, put some chillout music on (Vangelis are good...I also have a good 4cd collection of classic chillout) and stay away from your computer as much as possible. That will definately help you. Also, it is much more effective to plan your time, say two hours of study then an hour of computer, two more hours and an hours computer. If you get up early enough then you can have all your studying (say 6 hours) done by mid afternoon and you can do what you like for the rest of the day. That's what I did to get straight 1s anyways

Good luck!

Bozos of Bones 12-12-2004 07:01 PM

Vangelis, Enigma, Enya, that sort of thing.. or get some real stuff, some reggae :D Or even better, Bill Withers!
Lovely Day to you all... and good night.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-12-2004 07:04 PM

Man, what a day I've had!
I went to the DM"s house for 10am to roll up a new chatacter for the new campaign next week. I was there about 2.5 hours, then came home. Did some cleaning and preparing then got dressed 'cos we had to go to a funeral at 2pm. We got home just after 3pm, continued cleaning, cooking and prepering for the people on our court who were coming over for 4pm for our Christmas party. Now it's 8pm and everybody just left. Now we have all that cleaning up to do. Man I'm tired.

Oops, I posted in the wrong dern spot!

Cloudbringer 12-12-2004 07:36 PM

LOL, Blunderbuss, I admit, having my tree up and decorated is far more than I had done this time last year! But I have to wrap my husband and best friend's gifts this week because we're having our Christmas at home a week early so we can travel on the actual day.

Got some pecan bars in the oven now and will make some poppy seed bread tomorrow!

Dron_Cah 12-12-2004 08:04 PM

Ooooh, Pecan bars sound good! Well, I have horrible news. I am addicted to Baldur's Gate II... again. I stayed up until 4 am this morning playing my solo Cavalier. It's just not good timing with finals week upon us. Oh well, I'm going to a review tonight for tomorrow's final, so that should be good. And I'm enjoying reading my chemistry text, so I think everything may still work out. Anyways, g'day to you all, maybe I shall get a bite before I go to that review... :D

Hi All!

Bought a house over the weekend. The wife and I finally found something nice that we loved straight away. Should be moving in in about a month.

Where did you buy Tim? They say now is a good time to buy because the heat has gone out of the market a bit, so I hope you got a bargin :D

It will be a great way to start the new year by moving in a new house.

Mack_Attack 12-12-2004 10:34 PM

Hello all. Last night of work. Then time to get into the x-mas mood. Going to get a tree tommorow after I wake up from working nights. Then the next day goal is to get the rest of my shopping done.

And do not forget tonight is the last show for survivor. Not that all of you really care because you never watch T.V. ;)

aleph_null1 12-12-2004 10:41 PM

Hey everyone!

Start of Finals Week tomorrow morning, bright and early. Get to go home Friday evening! (First time in 18 months to see that half of the family)

Just have to get through Graph Theory.

And Algorithms.

And Data Structures.

And Electrical Engineering.
Bought a 8 year old 4 bedroom place over in Glenmore Park (Near penrith) picked up a bargin for $324,000. Guy wanted to sell. Had already bought his new house and was waiting on this house to sell so he can finalise his divorce settlement. So we got him down from $335,000.

Very happy with that & should be moving in in mid january.

Congradulations on the house, from what I have seen of the recent market, it seems like you got yourself a pretty good deal.
Although im not really familiar with the glenmore area, whats it like?

T-D-C 12-12-2004 11:28 PM

Glenmore park is really nice. We even have a webpage on our suburb LOL

http://www.glenmorepark.com/

Hivetyrant 12-12-2004 11:33 PM

wow, that looks great T-D-C.
I was a bit worried when it only loaded the "Be suprised bit"
But the place looks great, thats not your house on the front page is it?

T-D-C 12-13-2004 12:05 AM

Nah its not our house on the front page. Our House is here

http://www.realestate.com.au/objects...1102718445.jpg

Front Yard needs a lot of work but the backyard is fantastic. I already have plans for that yard.

Mack_Attack 12-13-2004 12:11 AM

Sweet looking place. Just need to chop down those trees and all is good. ;)

And it looks so warm there. Are you intrested in trading seasons with us here in Canada.

Also I heard in Australi you need to bid with other people to get a house. Maybe not for this house. But some friends of ours from Australi said this is what they had to do. :D

T-D-C 12-13-2004 12:15 AM

Not really thats only if you sell your house at Auction. Sometimes an auction will get you a better price.

The first thing I'm doing is chopping down the trees and then flatting the front yard into 3 steps and then new grass and some smaller steps up the middle for people to get to the front door.

Hivetyrant 12-13-2004 12:27 AM

Yeah, a series of steps would look great on the yard.
Looks like a nice house, what does the wife think?

T-D-C 12-13-2004 12:38 AM

The wife (Leanne) loves it. It has a really big kitchen (she loves cooking)

She is also looking forward to me fixing up the yard and getting away from the computer (she says I spend too much time on here LOL)

I'm looking forward to getting that yard done and putting my own personal touch on the house.

Those trees are the first to go!

Congradulations T-D-C! I hope the new house brings you joy for years to come.

Mack_Attack 12-13-2004 01:25 AM

TDC is this your first house??

And on a side note Survivor is done and chris won.

Bozos of Bones 12-13-2004 04:09 AM

Wowsa, T-D-C, if that ain't the best birthday gift ever, it sure comes close!! I'ma gonna go wish you a happy birthday now, in that other thread...

Callum 12-13-2004 05:16 AM

Damn, posted in the other cafe ;)

Christmas is the best time of the year for those in warm places with a forum full of people who seem to dislike the cold of their own places! :D

4 more days of school left! Thank god!

And prom on wednesday... I'm my hair done in corn rows, and am wearing a top hat and dress suit... :D

Sounds good TDC! Nice birthday/Christmas present for yourselves ;)

Attalus 12-13-2004 09:49 AM

Congrats, T-D-C on buying a house. I've had mine for 12 years, and I can tell you, four bedrooms come in damned handy.

Bungleau 12-13-2004 10:38 AM

I agree... those trees need to go! Hmmm... you might wait until next year and see if you can auction them as Christmas trees. I mean, they're big, they're bold... they could help offset that December mortgage payment

I agree on four bedrooms, too. Our first house was a three-bedroom... ours, guest room, and office. First kid meant the guest room went away. Second kid... we got another house One with four bedrooms, so us, two kids, and an office. We've since finished the basement to make an office down there (where I am right now) and turn the office upstairs back into a guest room.

Now the only problem is when we have more than one set of guests at a time... :( there's always the pull-out couch in the basement :D

Blunderbuss 12-13-2004 11:28 AM

What an awful day...though it actually wasn't that bad, but it's a Monday, so you just assume it must have been. But at least you can always find out your squirrel name at:

http://www.cheekysquirrel.net/squirrelname/

And yes, I am: Prince Nibbles his Nuts.

Hivetyrant 12-13-2004 11:40 AM

lol, nice link Blunderbuss.
Me? Im Fluffy Scruff... Oh well

Ilander 12-13-2004 12:23 PM

Admiral Fluffycheeks! Now that's a name!

Hey, Lexington got a dusting of snow today! That's really what I needed to get into the proper spirit :D

Attalus 12-13-2004 01:34 PM

It's 53 and clear, here, but it may freze tonight, they say. Good afternoon. Reminder to all: Legends of Earthsea is gonna be on the Science Fiction Channel tonight at 8 E, 7 C. Be there and let's hope it doesn't suck.

beware the ramble.
I always find that heavy metal helps me concentrate. Bands like Dimmu Borgir(death metal from norway, seen in my sig)for studying etc. Power metal bands from Finland mainly, (dragonforce, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica ETC) are better for chilling, they aren't screaming heavyness, but melodic. METAL, yes, but melodic. And alos with lyrics about swords, dragons, elves...I love it

dplax 12-13-2004 02:34 PM

I do listen to metal most of the time. Although mostly prog stuff like Threshold, Evergrey, Dream Theater, Enchant and bands like that, although I also listen to lots of Stratovarius, Rhapsody, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica and sometimes some Rammstein even or any odd metal band I have music from.
