A recent posting reminded me of all the liches in this city. I mean really, theres one in the crypt in the unseeing eye quest, two in the bridge area (you need a rogues stone to get to the second) and one inside a crypt in the inn at the city gates. And yet I have yet to find any quests that bring you to these guys deliberately.

Well, the main reason that they just don't throw them right out there for you to fight is because in the beginning of the game, they can pretty much erradacate you without blinking. I found it hard trying to face them in the beginning of the game, main reason being of the advantage they have with the Time Stop spell.

Liches don't need quests, they are just monsters like any another, albeit a lot more powerful than most.

As stated in the 2nd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual:
The lich is, perhaps, the single most powerful form of undead known to exist.

Powerful indeed :D

Only one thing worse then a Lich.

A Nether Wraith.

They can only be hit by excedingly rare weapons with ethereal enchantments, they drain years from your life with each hit, they are 100% immune to all forms of magic, and when they kill somebody, they can not be brought back from the dead, even with a Wish spell. Thank goodness they don't show up on the Prime Material Plane much.

Or ever in the game

Non of this answer my question. I know the twisted ruin group is related to a quest for a staff of magi, but I have yet to find this quest. As for the Lich in the Inn at the city gate, the sword (daystar) is too powerful not to be connected with some quest.

There is a building south of the Five Flagoons Inn, you'll need a rogue stone to open the door and this will start the Twisted Ruin battle to get the Staff of the Magi. Daystar has no quest behind it's power, the fact that you beat a lich to get it is enough.

ok so for this staff quest .........HOW THE HELL DO YOU BEAT THE LICH?????? I made the mistake of walking in the door after taking care of the trap. I thought it was just another building and lo an behold i'm in a fight with a lich, and demons. to say the least the battle lasted of about 1 1/2 min.(account for the times i paused the game to see what i was getting into). Is there special weapons i need? I noticed that nothing but a +4 or higher weapon affects the demons.

so help would be greatly appreciated.

marco, what level, who's in your party and what are they using, We need info to help. Just so you know that battle is generally considered the hardest battle in an un modded game

as for all the liches, 3 can be accounted by Kangaxx, either created by the power put out by his body parts, placed there to keep you from getting his body parts(i'd like to know who could possibly do this but) or you know him. Twisted rune was suppose to be part of the slaver quest, I always kinda wondered how theyed work him in. the lich in the City gates is the only really random one. They could have at least put him in the Graveyard.

Anybody else think it's funny that in a city with a huge graveyard and that has 5 liches, none are in the Graveyard?
