hello there,
I've just finished the spellhold section of BG2, defeated or scared off Irenicus and Yoshimo and very happy with myself.

I've just chatted with that Haemon (sp?) guy, the one who brought me to Brynnlaw Island in his ship, and refused his help,
from this I got the key and went straight to Underdark.

I came onto this site and had a quick check of the walkthough, and I've realised that I could have missed out on a major part of the game by going straight to Underdark...

Can anyone help me get back to the other option instead of going to Underdark direct? Is is essential to go to this other place before Underdark?

My autosave and quicksave positions won't help as they are at the start of Underdark,
my only other savegame I might use is saying goodbye to Aran Linvail, just before I arrive in Brynnlaw for the first time,

Do I need to go through Brynnlaw + Spellhold all over again?

Well you did miss an interesting part of the game.
If you want to run through it you must redo spellhold.

all u miss is the shark people island, if you accept his help you get a piece of the silver sword (cromwell item) and in the shark people place you get a quest, the only good items there is the cloack of mirroring and park of the wave (cromwell item). It isnt a major part of the game, just a place to get some extra exp and items.
