I've heard about the shapeshifting bug before. Then again, the standard druid shapeshifts are worthless in BG2 anyway. Contingency doesn't work like sequencer. It casts a spell automatically under certain conditions, and you can cast a spell in one level higher for every three levels of the caster; for instance, Jan has just made level 12, and he can now put level 4 spells in a contingency. Because he can't memorize level 6 spells yet, he gets his contingency scroll out and programs a contingency to make a stoneskin spell go off as soon as an enemy is sighted. The group encounter one gibberling, and Jan's contingency goes off, wasting a perfectly good spell scroll. See?
