Smoking can be one of the worst things to do, and most of you know that. i reckon they should ban it where people usualy are, like resteraunts and pubs.
it could help a bit with the global warming and make the air healthier. plus you are more likely to perish smoking than any other way. its like commiting suicide!

they are looking at doing it in NSW. but it will ruin all the pubs bussiness.

<span style="color: lightblue">Why? People don't go to pubs just to smoke, last I checked. The pubs' money comes from alcohol, and that will still flow. And those who want to smoke can still do it outside, in patios and such. Non-smoking laws are a good idea in all enclosed spaces - they protect the communities long-term health, and make our living standards better. I support Bob Car 100% on this, except for the fact that I want it faster than the 7(?)-year plan he's proposing.

Yes i know but still they are trying to make an effort to remove smoking all together in the end.

<span style="color: lightblue">No, if they wanted to do that, they'd say "smoking is illegal from now on". But they're not doing that. The current plans are to outlaw smoking in enclosed public spaces. Noone much minds it being done outside, because it isn't just moved around and added to - it goes away. Indoors is a different matter: it stays, it gets added to constantly, it spreads out a bit but never dies down. This is extremely bad for people's health - especially since there are potentially (and often) non-smokers there. Don't believe the media (read: the CWD) hype that smoking will be a crime entirely: there'll just be alot more "no smoking" signs about.

You obviously havnt been watching the news Lennon, half of the population os boycoting the situation, the other half love it. ME? I think that if someone wants to smoke..Let them, but just dont breathe it on me.

I hate it! I can't wait 'til the outlaw the whole thing. Mostly because smokers havn't got the common curtesy to respect non-smokers. I hate when I go to the Mall now and all the smokers are right by the door, even though they're supposed to be 16 feet away! I wouldn't have spend money on allergy meds if they were more respectful.

<span style="color: lightblue">As I said: media hype. Journalists are very good at making a small number of people (say, 10 - 20) look like they represent a fairly big crowd. Alot of people are probably quite indifferent to it.

Azeral 11-26-2004 06:42 AM

Nope Lennon this one is actually divided right down the middle. they interviewed a lot of pubs

wellard 11-26-2004 06:54 AM

Every where smoking bans have been introduced in bars or restaurants the number of customers goes down for a short while then the numbers go up to a higher figure. People don’t like change but a few years from now everyone will accept the new normal.

Smoking on planes is another example. People have been banned from smoking for years yet despite a nervous 12 hour flight people in general accept the situation and the reason for fines if they break the law. The bottom line is more people fly now with smoking bans than before.

There are more people who hate cigs and their stench than those that smoke :D
