Item Editor

Currently there is still no editor for W&W items. One trick that I have tried is to use hex editing to create a "minimal item", one that has just enough detail to be accepted by the game. Then I sell the item, and exit the selling screen. A proper version of the item should then be available for sale. Obviously this method will not work if the item cannot be sold. The Divine Sigil is one example of an item that I can't sell at the Pawn Shop.

It seems that this method will work for most, if not all items. Even if the item can't be sold, there may be enough detail for the game to accept it in fulfillment of quests&.

If it does work, the party may be able to give quest items to the relevant guild then create the item for themselves.

Enough detail means:
the item number, expressed in little end first hexadecimal
the item identified name

Both are available from examining the file D6Item.dat in the MS-Dos Prompt Edit command. If line width is set to 284, the item number is one less than the line number. The name is found on the first 22 lines of the entry.

For example, the Tome of Fire is found on line 268, hence the game recognizes it as item number 267. 267 = 0B 01 when the hexadecimal is expressed in the above format.
