Tiax rocks in BG1 as well. OK so he is crap as a character but it is a good laugh to have him in your party for a little while. If you get a very low reputation then he will say things like:

"Tiax is please with this crew, I will remember you when I am leader."

But why exactly is he in the asylum dare I ask? He really isn't a mage at all and his contribution to the fight against Irenicus seems to be Strength of One. Ah well, it was worth it for the conversation...
