A very good question to ponder. If he did, the entire world's history was changed due to some person that was influenced by mind affecting deciase.

Note to those who read the article: Syphilis may also be "caught" by other means, like drinking from the same glass that infected person drinked from.

What a blow to commies! :D

An interesting revelation.
I've been finding 'socialist' policies more and more appealing lately. Oh no! Could this be a result of that wild night out at the clubs a while back??!! She said she was clean man!!! ;) :D

Wow, thats really interesting.
I always found Lenin to be an interesting character, so its good to see this.

The first thing I saw when clicking on that link was a picture of Bush, but I'm sure he has nothing to do with the article.

AFAIK, Lenin died from stroke complications, not syphilis. He also suffered a serious gunshot wound in an assassination attempt a few years prior. That's the official explanation.

However, that's an interesting article. I'll have to fire off a question to my Russian history prof and see what he says, as well. The evidence presented seems to be fairly strong in favour of syphilis.

The article does seem to have a bone to pick with communism, however, so I won't be too quick to take it as truth.

Well, since my father happens to be Dr Vladimir Lerner (one of the reasons to publish the article here, apart from the interesting history question :D , and yes i know, i brag sometime. cant help it. ), i take his word for truth. I helped him to write some of his research (i have translated several german articles regarding the question), and from the material that i have seen, i can only say: Syphilis (being son of a docotor and a grandson of a historian gives you some insight on these matters).

The commies had lied about practically everything, so i will not believe them even if they will say that the sky is blue. The "serious gunshot wound" was not very significant (relativly of course), when compared to other symptoms that could not be caused by the bullet.

Interesting point that the article did not mention: The Brain Institute refuses to give the brain for a check out that will determine the cause of death.

Edit: There is difference between "Lenin's brain, preserved at an institute in Moscow, might furnish the final proof, but the doctors doubt Russian officials will ever allow independent scholars to study tissue samples" and between "refused the request and almost kicked the requestor out".

Well, BB, the article was pretty convincing, I'm just maintaining my rep as a skeptic; that works both ways, of course, so I'm just as (if not more) suspicious of the official reasons given. I've also heard rumours of the syphilis story before, so that adds even more credibility to the story (e.g. the claim is not coming out of nowhere).

It's entirely different if you know and can vouch for a (the main?) researcher on the project, and are actually familiar with other sources yourself. I'm about 90% convinced. The last 10% conviction will have to wait until some commandos "liberate" Lenin's brain and send it to be analysed.

I think he died from lack of oxygen resulting from being locked in a glass case. What a way to go.

Interesting... I always suspect that he was not "right" in the head.
