Great news Peter Jackson has agreed to make the Hobbit.

LOS ANGELES -- New Line Cinema, a division of Time Warner Inc. said Tuesday that it has signed on Peter Jackson, director of the award-winning "Lord Of The Rings" film series, to direct two films based on "The Hobbit," a prequel to the "Rings" trilogy. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, partially owned by Sony Corp. , will co-produce the films. The agreement comes after a dispute between Jackson and New Line over the director's cut of the profits from "Rings," which grossed a collective $2.9 billion and won 17 Academy Awards.

Only ones he could use as the same characters would be Gandalf and Bilbo... Elrond? I can't remember if we see Elrond in the Hobbit.. but there's definitaly no Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Frodo, etc. in The Hobbit.

Elrond, yes. Gandalf, yes. Bilbo, they might have to seek out a different actor, makeup can add or remove centuries but the other guy the 'sounded' old.

Hmm will we get to see the bear guy in the movie? what's his name Bjorn or something like that, I'll have to look it up.

This is great news. Too bad the first part isn't out till 2010. Part 2 comes out in 2011. Seeing how production doesn't start till 2009, and the other 3 LotR were released in December, we might not see this till December 2010 :( .
