I'm currently out of the country doing some additional education and decided to buy a new copy of Wiz 8 to keep me occupied. Unfortunately, I've lost three successive ebay auctions for copies of Wiz 8. The things are selling like hotcakes for some reason. This is characteristic of what has been happening:
Wizardry 8 by Sir-Tech for Windows in the Box Current price: US $51.00 Your maximum bid: US $50.00 End date: Tuesday, Oct 10, 2006 18:13:26 PDT You'd think that a game essentially relegated to the bargin bin wouldn't be commanding prices like this. Somehow people are still interested. Incidentally, I've bid on another copy. This time I made my max bid $100. |
It had a poor publisher, thus not enough copies were made and it is extrodinarily rare. Combine that with excellent word of mouth and you have a bad situation. I feel bad, I mananged to get the 2nd release (I think there are three different versions) off the shelf for like $20.

I sometimes see them at EB used for cheap. I'm definatly buying all of them now to put on ebay!

I gave away my extra copy last year

Finally got one. A little cheaper than the last auciton too. Still a good deal more than what you'd expect for a used game like this.
Congratulations! You committed to buy the following item: Wizardry 8 by Sirtech Classic Vintage RPG Sale price: $42.03 Quantity: 1 Subtotal: US $42.03 |
