how much does this usually cost? what kind is best?

I figure that if I'm going to buy a new computer, I may as well go all-out. I'm sick of my sanil-paced modem.

Also, I'm conisdering moving in 3-6 months, so relocation is a factor. I don't want to pay a huge installation fee that I won't get much use out of.

I have RoadRunner. It's $40 a month, but the cable company takes of $5 because I also have cable. This is the exact same cost it's been for 7 years now that I've had RoadRunner, and every time I do research the experts come back that it's still the best deal for the reliabity and speed.

When I first got it there were connection and speed issues, but that's because the service was new up here (upstate NY). They fixed all of them and for the past 5 or so years I've had no issues and the connection is FAST, especially with my new PC (2.8 Ghz P4 with a gig of ram)

Go with a cable modem, it's faster, tho a little bit more expensive then DSL. I think it's more reliable, I think I pay 50 a month.

There are a couple of things I don't like:

[Geek Talk]
They block access to port 80, for webhosting(you can get around it tho ;) )
you really can't get a static IP(for hosting), but ther is a company that lets you track it dynamically, so you can change DNS settings when your IP changes [/Geek talk]
