-   -   A NEW Solar flare coming -- third largest on record (http://www.ironworksforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88289)

This is serious:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/space/1...are/index.html

"The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory satellite spies the third most powerful solar flare on record, the bright blip near the sun's middle, on October 28."

"One of the largest known solar flares erupted from the sun on Tuesday, heralding a storm of superheated gas that could hit Earth within a day or two."

Now, every 11 years, the Sun has what is called it's "Solar Maximum", but we're now a few years OUT of that, and these spots and flares are getting worse. I have a baaad feeling about this. For those that know what a 'Kill Shot' is, then you know what I'm worried about.

Holy crap, look at this:

Everyone needs to read that article, because I can guarantee that some power and/or satellites will be hit and taken offline for a time. This one is TOTALLY INSANE! And I monitor these things, and nothing has come close to this and the last one since.... well 2000, but not even then was it this bad.

I added a Solar monitor to the Gencon Opening page--for the next few days.. If we're all still here. :D

OOOh Shiny! Well Theres nothing we can do about it so why worry I say we march out there and kick its ass ;)

But seriously, yeh......

Hmmm, Ziroc. Just what exactly should we be concerned about? Will it just affect telephone lines and satellite dishes? If so, I'm not concerned. No one calls me and I don't have satellite TV or cable. Will be concerned if it's going to cause mass blackouts. Thanks for the heads-up.

So the worst out of it is power outages and since weather intensifies at the end of each 11 year cycle (or each solar burst), what we'll see is a lot of snow for those who are in winter.

Uh oh... This cannot be good.

WEll I always keep SPF 420 in the house I knew I would need it sooner or later.

But I really do not know about this stuff I am going to read the artical and I am sure be real worried afterwards. So what does one do stay indoors, run and hide or what.

Ziroc thanks for the cool link to the fancy looking graphs.

Ziroc, I'm smart but I'm not that smart. Could you spell out the implications for people like me?
