Ok in the manual it mentions 3 ablities that supposedly bards and theives have, Detect Noise, Climb Walls and Read Languages, it says that theives have 15% detect noise, 60% climb walls, 0% read languages. And for the bard, 20% detect noise, 50% climb walls, and 5% read languages. Are these stats only for scripted events or do they acually have some sort of practical uses?

These are not used in BGII - but I suspect the information was just ripped from AD&D rules without thinking about the fact there was no application for them in BGII. I've often thought it would be cool if you could climb stuff though...

damn, it really would be cool to be a theif and scale walls and stuff. Come to think of I, that would add a new demnsion to the game. Imagine scaling the walls of the De'Arnis Hold instead of just going threw the secret door.

I am playing through (1st time) as a Half-Orc Fighter/Thief. If there is no "detect noise" or whatever, should I be using a helmet?

Helmets only give you some special effect of the helmet and to avoid Critical hits

being able to scale walls would lead to some interesting baskstabbing
