Strange indeed that we've not got an ashes thread already. I seem to recall this place getting quite interesting when two nations fight over an old mouldy urn. :D

Stumps on day one of the first test at the gabba and it's 3 for 346 after a nice effort from a somewhat jovial Ponting. What have you Poms got to say for it?

Am I the only one who doesn't know what heck he's talking about?

johnny 11-23-2006 10:54 AM

Yorick 11-23-2006 10:57 AM

Ponting 137!!! Go hard son!

3/147 or so. Bloody awesome.

Bozos of Bones 11-23-2006 11:11 AM

My god, there's a huge meteor about to hit my house!1!

I like threads of randomness.

Ivelliis 11-23-2006 12:28 PM

Don't you have a tennisracket ? If you do, you can hit it back. You don't have to hit it hard, you can just slice it, or use topspin, and maybe you can offbalance the moon or something, that would be totally cool. LOLZ

Bozos of Bones 11-23-2006 01:20 PM

Nah, I'll just use my awesome powers of intellect and ill it away.

bubbe 11-23-2006 01:25 PM

*scratching my head slowly and walks away*

Iron Greasel 11-23-2006 01:31 PM

I've only seen cricket in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and that was kind of dominated by evil killer death robots.

Szass-Tam 11-23-2006 02:01 PM

Hmm, 346-3. Not the start I had envisioned for England's Ashes defence but It's nice to see Freddie is in form. The time difference is annoying but I can't complain having enjoyed the series live last summer. Oh well, It's early days yet.

Captain Obvious 11-23-2006 02:09 PM

Im a New Zealander, so i support whoever is playing Australia. So... GO POMS!

although at 346/3 after day one, i think they might be in trouble.

Ivellis, i never really got into test matches until i got married.... being able to say "i'll clean/mow/do that after the game" is fantastic when the match lasts 5 days...

wellard 11-23-2006 03:32 PM

Pulling Harmison off after 2 wayward overs was a mistake by Freddie. The guy was pumped up and just needed to settle not be humiliated.

Ponting what a legend! Something like 9 centuries in the last twelve matches ..Go punter!

johnny 11-23-2006 03:52 PM

Ontopic please guys, we were talking about meteors and tennisrackets.

T-D-C 11-23-2006 05:12 PM

LOL Get out of the cricket thread.

heres hoping the team can stick it out and not lose to many wickets this morning. lets get into the 500's today and see where we end up.

johnny 11-23-2006 05:18 PM

Well...let me add something usefull here then...

GO ENGLAND !!!!

Go and make yourself usefull by counting some votes, the CDA needs needs help :D

What amased me yesterday was the very few chances Australia gave England. Its not as though the South African and Papuan where dropping the ball every over like last year. It was a masterclass in batting!

</font>
Ouch...that hurt Wellard. And to think of it that the man i voted for didn't even make it into parliament. Maybe it was because he compared Islam with Nazism. :D

He is lucky to be alive don't they normally kill Anti Islamists in the netherlands?

And will Ricky Ponting get a double centuary? looks like it.

Callum 11-23-2006 10:44 PM

No he bloody won't! :D

Finally a couple of wickets. Still looking a bit hopeless, but the grounds incredibly flat, so I suppose there's still a chance.

A slight spark of hope.

And if I know English cricket, we'll be sure to stamp that out pretty quickly.

wellard 11-23-2006 10:48 PM

Yep, a slight glimmer for England then the dropped catches begin. Due you read palms or tea leaves Callum?

I've just woken up (could get used to this jobless thang :D ) and haven't tuned in to day 2 yet. What am i in store for if England had a "brief glimmer"? Who's out?

Memnoch 11-24-2006 06:54 AM

Bit of a caning happening at the moment eh. It's Freddie Flingtoff and the Seven Dwarfs against the Baggy Greens. If we can get KP early tomorrow I reckon it would be massive.

Mellagar 11-24-2006 03:41 PM

Yay,its...cricket.......yay......*sniff*......ummm mm....yeah.....alright I'll leave.

Rikard T'Aranaxz 11-24-2006 03:41 PM

wow england is being slaughtered. i feel pity for them :<

Callum 11-24-2006 04:32 PM

Ah yes, this is something I'm familiar with. England all out for less than 200 on the third day, spending a whole day futilely attacking Australia's wicket to try and get all out and have a decent amount of time to play, and then clinging on desperately by the finger nails, while Freddy Flintoff scores a century after lunch on the last day and manages to stay in long enough to get a draw.

In England we call this a "victory".

Rikard T'Aranaxz 11-24-2006 05:23 PM

so if england has to do a follow up it'll be done in day 4 right?

Davros 11-24-2006 05:33 PM

Right now there is no gaurantee that it will go past day 3. Just 17 pommie wickets between us and 1-0. People buying last day tickets to an Australia v England test are eternal optimists :D .

wellard 11-24-2006 07:58 PM

My money is on it all being over by today. The Australian cricket board will be furious So much money it has to refund!

Yorick 11-24-2006 08:33 PM

You may be right mate. Kinda disappointing... 5/101 at the moment. Ian Bell will have to do some magic. England need 400 just to avoid the follow on. Can't see that happening at the moment. Bell needs a double ton at least.

Well Kudos to Ponting!
