I had this thought occur to me this weekend. Never in my life have I seen a ceiling in a house that was not white or some varient shade of white.
Anyone know why they are all white? The things I want to know! [ 09-16-2002, 01:08 PM: Message edited by: MagiK ] |

Generally - white ceilings or walls make the room MUCH brighter. If that's what you're going for.
|
Probably because they make the room brighter... not sure though, just a guess...

Brighter is correct, but it also gives an illusion of spaciness. The room would appear much smaller if you painted the ceiling red or something.
White walls and ceilings - roomy, coloured walls and ceilings - cosy. :D |
Its just a common preferance, and its easyest to paint over. Other than that to make it brighter or to make it look bigger is all i can think of.
|
Also gives you nice headache if you find one colored spot on the wall and stare at it for some time...

you git! now i've realised all my ceilings are white and am spotting specks on them
grrrrrrrrrrr :D |
The ceilling on hospitals are ALLVAIS white i think and maby they have it like that because it is easyer to hold it clean and so on. In my house i have a wood ceilling with no colors on it only natural wood look and that is very nice!

Well one thing is that you usually have lighter ceilings then the flors since that makes it easier to orientate, I know sounds silly, but if you have the reversed you can feel dizzy.
Space is also one, makes the room look "happier" in a sense as well. |
