Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

Previous Cafe is here
Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

It is a rather strange threat title... lol

Re: Cloudy

Kinda thought the thread title was a little short-hand.

Anyway, tracked down a video my church did a couple weeks ago. Basically a retelling of the David vs. Goliath story in the form of an 80's style rock montage.

Enjoy, or not, personally I found it very amusing:

Hey, I'm here too :D
Finally joined a society at uni (Roleplaying Soc) and have an email for another group (Juggling - they have poi) which I'll join if I have enough spare time.

So... You're buying are you UV?

Bungleau 10-02-2008 09:19 AM

Re: Cloudy

Gamers in the RP society... a natural fit, methinks :) And juggling too? Out of curiosity, are you a somewhat or massively experienced juggler? I consider myself somewhat experienced... I can juggle 2 or 3, and have learned a small handful of tricks that I can occasionally perform to a somewhat mediocre level.

I like the video, FSA. I've been toying with a tweak of my own... turning "(don't fear the) reaper" into "(don't fear the) savior". Just got to convince everyone else it's worth playing around with...

It's been a long morning already, so I'll take an extra large diet Dew this morning, UV... keep your tab cheap, and keep me energized for a bit ;)

Dragonshadow 10-02-2008 09:39 AM

Re: Cloudy

I can't juggle to save my life, not even two, but, like I said, the juggling soc also includes poi, which I can do better than some, but not as good as others (the first person I met when I was here also does poi, sock and fire I think...)
And yup, gaming society seems like fun. Mostly guys with a good sense of humour, and I'm in their good books already for saying how much I dislike 4th ed :D

Plus they gave me a d30 for joining.

Bungleau 10-02-2008 10:09 AM

Re: Cloudy

Poi? Vas ist poi? All I can think of is a Hawaiian glue-like food that you have to "acquire" a taste for :puke:

And poi, sock, and fire? Dip socks in poi, then put them on people's porches, set them on fire, ring the doorbell, and run?

It's gettin' impossible to understand this younger generation these days... :)

D30 for joining... cool :) I remember when I told someone I was going to bring some six-sided dice into work one day. He looked at me strangely... "What do you mean? Aren't they *ALL* six-sided?"

Gave him an education, I did... :dice: :dice:

We're still doing 2nd ed, with a bit of 3rd mixed in via some feats.
I'm actually playing tonight!

..shame, gotta get my Survivor pics in!!

Re: Cloudy

I can understand the confusion Bungleau. All my dictionary searching has only turned up the Hawaian food product.

However it was accompanied by this add which may shed some light on what DS is talking about when she says the juggling group has poi: http://www.homeofpoi.com/shop/listItems/Fabric-Poi-sets

I know a guy who can juggle and ride a unicycle at the same time. Or so he claims.

Here's a link to one of my best friend's website. His name is Dave and he's pretty good at a lot of stuff.

He's a busker by profession.

Re: Cloudy

Nice find, FSA! That site's home page starts out with "what is poi"...

Quote:

What is Poi? - "Poi" is the Maori word for "ball" on a cord. Poi is a form of juggling where the balls are swung around the body. Poi can take many shapes and forms from LED lighted, Glow, Fabric, Sock and Fire.
Now I stand under...

Dragonshadow 10-02-2008 11:16 AM

Re: Cloudy

Yup, that's poi :D I use the kind which are balls on a string on one end, and ribbons attached to the other. You can make very nice patterns with them.

LOL! I was trying to create the new Cafe when my pc pointer froze and the thing kept trying to access a dvd for no apparent reason, so I shut down...apparently it sent this! :D

Indeed.

Awesome! He can ride a unicycle whilst juggling it - now THAT'S a trick :hehe:

I read unicycle as unicorn. I was even more impressed.

More meanings of poi:
- an acronym for GPS Points of Interest
- Tamil feature film about lies (2006), directed by K. Balachander
- software from Apache
- a jewish expression of disgust
- sour pineapple pudding
- fresh squeezed coconut juice
- 'husband' in Nepali

Just some mostly useless factoids at the bottom of the Poi site.

It would have been more impressive if he juggled unicorns riding a unicycle.

Damn, I had an argument with myself about whether to spend time here or in Yori's, now part of me has gone over there and I'm confused :animated_scratchchi

Well, we're not serving poi (in any of it's incarnations!) but we do have a really nice endless M&M dispenser! LOL

It's Friday! Anyone have weekend plans? I have to do some serious filing and reorganizing at home. We bought a new file cabinet a while ago and I've only moved about a quarter of my folders over.

Fall cleaning - or whatever you call it when you do the last major clean before winter heads on in. Changing from summer to winter duvets, getting woolly jumpers out of storage, packing my bikini(!) away for the next few months, convincing the kids they do still need to open their bedroom windows occasionally. Tidying the garden even with leaves starting to fall - then settle down to a glass of mulled wine in the evening...that kind of stuff.

Bungleau 10-03-2008 01:29 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

*pours a stiff drink to get the image of UV in a bikini out of his mind...*

*and another one...*

Tonight's the Clone Wars Cartoon premier, so I'll be watching that with my son tonight. Was trying to find some Star Wars candy to have as a special treat, but no such luck.

No major household things... although I should probably find the right paint to touch up the stuff I did last weekend. Maybe we'll hit an apple orchard, cider mill, or corn maze this weekend... I've had a hankering for that :D

Firestormalpha 10-03-2008 01:36 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

Personally I prefer to original clone wars episodes that Cartoon Network ran a few years ago. The ones with a Samurai Jack-ish animation style.

I thought it was a little odd that the council would allow Anakin to have a padawan. And that one that was (I would expect) raised as a jedi, would have the same self-control issues as Anakin.

Bungleau 10-03-2008 02:25 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

Oh, yeah... I saw the "movie" with my son when it came out, and I was cringing on many levels. A padawan referring to her master with a nickname? "Skyguy"? Her lightsaber would be buried someplace where she wouldn't want it to be activated... ;)

'Course, I'm well outside the target market of "young boys who can extract money from their parents" :D

Cloudbringer 10-03-2008 05:40 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

Eef... Fall cleaning... you had to mention that.. we have a lot to catch up on before winter here. Our yard needs an overhaul before we put the gardent to bed for the winter and we don't even want to talk about the closets I need to clean out... :D

Bungleau, Nacht wants to check that show out too. Not sure if we'll catch it tonight, but he'll probably tape it.

Bungleau 10-03-2008 08:59 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

Eighteen minutes until showtime... I can hardly wait ;)

I forgot one minor chore for this weekend... rearranging the family room. Wouldn't be too difficult if it weren't for the two pieces of Sauder furniture... for those unfamiliar, pressboard assembled stuff, like Ikea... but weighing several tons (I think)

Successfully rearranged this evening, though... and now sixteen minutes to go :D

Cloudbringer 10-04-2008 08:14 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

Hey, if you're done rearranging your family room, could you help reorganize my study? :D

Had company come by for lunch. Friends on their way down to Philly to see an Eagles game tomorrow. So we had pizza for dinner last night then had pizza for lunch...didn't realize they were stopping here until after we'd eaten dinner and pizza was the fastest thing for their quick run through this afternoon.

Hubby's got a steak in the oven now... we are pizza'd out for the nonce! :D

Cloudbringer 10-04-2008 08:17 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

I've got a pot of lemon tea made up. And there are steak sandwiches for brunch tomorrow. Courtesy of hubby making steak for dinner tonight.

Firestormalpha 10-04-2008 09:14 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

Mmmm... pizza....

We just had some of that Bertolli stuff for dinner. Not too bad, but homemade italian will always be better.

My church just recently started a 3 year campaign to build a new worship center. We kinda outgrew the one we're in, six services a weekend and half of them are packed house. So the current figures put the new facilities in the ballpark of $15-17 million.

So Bungleau, how was the series?

Bungleau 10-04-2008 10:48 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

The series was... just what you'd expect. A perfect thing to launch a large number of toys... additional Jedi master <strike>dolls</strike> figurines, lightsabers, halloween costumes... the list will be endless. It seems to avoid all sorts of relationship to the other movies, with the exception of sharing characters and minor plot line things (wow... the separatists always seem to know what we're doing. It's like they had a spy or something... what do you think, Chancellor?).

Needless to say, my son is geeked up for next week's episode to show up...

So how many people attend your services, FSA? Sounds like a lot.. A LOT...

Cloudy, I may not be much help on the study. Family rooms are easy... half a dozen or less major pieces of furniture, and not much variation. Studies, offices... too many things. And when I throw or kick at the stuff that gets in my way, other people get mad... :madhell:

Nice of Nacht to provide you with two meals at once! Any of that lemon tea left over? Feels like it would hit the spot right about now... :D

Firestormalpha 10-04-2008 11:00 PM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

Well the current auditorium was built to accomodate around 800-900, and on a light weekend we'll have somewhere between 3-4 thousand. The traffic is always fun.

Unglaublich Verwustung 10-07-2008 08:52 AM

Re: Cloudy or Cloudy's Cafe, the quickstop verison! Oct 1, 2008

The good news is that the cleaning/sorting went well, summer clothes are away, duvets swapped over - shame I didn't get on to the garden but can't have everything.

Mmm, M&Ms, how could I forget the M&Ms. Just what I need to get me back into the mood for work - hyper, running round in circles and driving everyone nuts.

Trying to convince my boss that I'm the creative type and that I just need to be left browsing the internet, lurking in chatrooms and the like whilst waiting for the next brilliant idea to burst forth. So far I've only managed to convince him that he has no clue what I really do.

So that makes two of us.
