D&D Tiny Adventures

Is anyone playing the newest online offering by Wizards of the Coast, Dungeons & Dragons, Tiny Adventures?

As far as I know, it's only available at Facebook...

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Let me check it out!

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I've been playing a half-elf paladin. :)

It's not as interactive as I would like, but I seem to be addicted to it. :D:D:D

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I have joined as a dwarven something-or-other (what are these stupid-sounding new races!?!?). I have also tagged you as a friend (well, you, or someone who has exactly the same name as you!), although their friend function thing seems to be off right now.

manikus 09-05-2008 09:34 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

You found me. Isn't funny how so many people can have the same name? :)

Dwarven Warlord, eh? Is this D&D 4e? I'll have to look into that.

Uatu 09-05-2008 10:39 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I wanted to try a wizard, but... what-the-hella are these stupid-sounding races? And then there are tieflings (of course!).

3e and 4e just have stupid-sounding names for things, in general.

(If I had found a different manikus, well, that would have been quite amazing, since I including a middle name as well :D)

manikus 09-06-2008 01:09 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Good point about the middle name. :) There are quite a few folk (whose middle name I don't know) that I'm presented with many options and not enough info to narrow it down - especially for the friends I haven't seen since college. What is that, like three, four hundred years ago? :D

Uatu 09-06-2008 05:22 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Yeah - the worst is when you only remember someone's nickname - then you can only try to peruse entire schools' students (what year was he again?) or somethine else (er, hobbies?).

manikus 09-06-2008 09:34 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

It's kind of funny (in a sad way), but I often find myself looking someone up from high school or college, finding them, looking at their picture, reading their bio and then never sending them a friend request b/c I've satisfied my curiosity. :)

Uatu 09-06-2008 11:05 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Ha ha... Weell, I usually make a friend request, and they accept it, but then nothing really happens from there... It may be enough just knowing that the connection has been made. :)

manikus 09-06-2008 11:20 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

My wife had warned me about that. She has lots of friends, but maybe 10% or fewer have ever contacted her (it goes without saying that she hasn't contacted the 90%).

I only signed up a couple of weeks ago, as part of a class assignment. :) So, for me, it's all good. I wasn't really looking for anybody, so when a couple of folks and I got in contact it was pretty cool.

Uatu 09-07-2008 01:27 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I think most people are just sort of mtually satisfied with knowing that they have made the connection (and can someday further this), but don't really need to do any more (for now).

manikus 09-07-2008 01:39 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

When I first joined, I was all like, "I'll be friends with people I know I'll keep in (email) touch with." I had a goal of sending an email to everyone, of rekindling some old friendships, of, I don't know, being a more conscientious friend. :) But, ya, that's not going to happen. :D:D:D

Not to say that I wouldn't carry on conversations with any one of the people I'm friends with, it's just very unlikely that I'll initiate anything. Ironically, I'm sure that each of my friends is thinking the same thing. :P

Uatu 09-07-2008 02:43 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Well, some friends I haven't seen for... like 18 years or so :D Some of them I did send some kind of conversation, but it doesn't tend to last for very long. :)

manikus 09-07-2008 10:56 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I guess I'm not surprised. I expect it will be the same for me. If the person and I didn't bother to talk once since high school graduation, odds are a conversation started through facebook will be pretty much a "Hello. And, what do you do?"

On a Tiny Adventures note, with my last couple of level 4 'adventure', I started keeping tracking of the attribute checked in the final encounter, so that if I had to do it again I could bring the proper potion. :D

Sins of the Saltmarsh -> INT (Magic)
Stronghold of the Drow -> Attack Bonus

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

The events that happen do seem random, but some adventures definitely have a tendency to require more WIS, INT, etc. (I always get this wrong, of course...)

manikus 09-08-2008 09:42 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

According to the F.A.Q. the only things that are constant about an adventure are the number of events and the final event. Then there are keywords for an event that mean it will likely be one of two characteristics - but you can't know that in advance since they're mostly random. I've noticed, replaying several adventures a couple of times each, that there are several events that remain the same so that maybe a quarter of the events are the same, but you don't know which ones until you play the adventure a second time. :)

Uatu 09-08-2008 09:49 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Some events are apparently rare (special!), and say so in the event name (i.e., "(Rare)"). Of course, the only one I ever got, I failed my roll and thus don't know what I could have received from that if I succeeded :(

manikus 09-08-2008 10:13 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I don't think I've ever noticed a (Rare) event. I have seen Undead several times, but not as much as you would think- the event is fighting a spectre but it's not tagged as Undead. I've also seen Giants, Constructs, Magic and one more that I can't seem to remember. I haven't noticed the loot being any better, but they do seem to offer better XP. :)

manikus 09-09-2008 01:26 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

There is some interesting "loot" (made more interesting by the fact that they call it loot) available as you get to the higher levels. Today I have gotten two "Dragonscale of Bahamut" holy symbols, and Adamantine Greataxe and a Vorpal Greatsword.

I'll update the adventure list above tomorrow when I get home from school.

Uatu 09-09-2008 01:43 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Whoa - that loot sounds nice. :)

For some reason, Tiny Adventures is not loading correctly for me anymore - will try again later, I guess.

manikus 09-09-2008 09:48 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

The first couple of days, I got the 'Try Again' message a lot - according to the F.A.Q., it's because their servers are getting overloaded as they apparently didn't allocate enough resources for the Facebook community.

Uatu 09-09-2008 08:47 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Well - I got back in again! The friends function seemed to not be alive, though.

manikus 09-09-2008 09:03 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I just got ruled on a level 9 adventure. I think I only succeeded on 4 events before I was knocked unconscious and sent home to heal.

Uatu 09-09-2008 09:22 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I just failed my last adventure, too! :D

manikus 09-09-2008 10:08 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

It sucks b/c it brings down your percentage and the lower your percentage the lower the points you receive. :( (Not XP, but the other points)

Uatu 09-09-2008 10:18 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

What are points for, though? I think that as long as I get XP/money/loot, I am fine :D

manikus 09-09-2008 10:23 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

The points are out score, and it's how we're ranked on the leaderboard tab. They don't really matter other than that.

Uatu 09-09-2008 10:37 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I never could compete with those hardcore players, anyway (which is why MMORPGs are usually not for me)...

manikus 09-09-2008 11:32 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I'm with you on that. I don't play AD&D to compete with some schmo living in Manhattan or some bumpkin living in Kentucky. :)

Uatu 09-10-2008 12:22 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

...or especially some clique of 12 year-olds from Brazil who speak in Portuguese and try to kill all those who don't understand Portuguese (argh, must... suppress... bad memory...).

manikus 09-10-2008 01:22 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

:)
A friend of mine is always trying to get me to play Guild Wars and then he starts telling me about guilds devoted to player killing. Blech! Not my cup of tea. :)

I played a game called Daimonin for a while, but it was so annoying when you'd spend like ten minutes fighting a tough monster only to have some a$$hole run up and deal the death blow and take all the XP. As this was an Open Source game, I let the developers know what I thought, but they rather liked this feature...though they eventually did put in code so that you got some credit if you did all the work. Coincidentally, Daimonin was using a bunch of DC icons for their mobs...

Uatu 09-10-2008 02:10 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Daimonin was using DC icons?! Wow...

But yeah, the main problem of MMORPGs is the a$$holes (just as the main problem of democracies are the stupid people)...

MMORPGs also require SO MUCH time (at the mid-upper levels) just doing repetitive things over and over to gain experience/skills - not much fun, really. (I can spend the same amount of time drawing pictures, and have things to look at for my time.)

A better program for XP would be miniscule amounts for each sword swipe, magic casting, etc.... Allowing "steals" sort of ruins the game.

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

(How did I manage to post in the wrong thread? Post deleted.)

manikus 09-10-2008 09:51 AM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I don't think MMORPGs are just repetitive at high stages. :) I really think they'd be better named as MMOGKTG (Massively Multi-Player Going to Kill Things Games).

It's surprising how many don't even have a good story used as background if nothing else. It seems there is a trend to do like a 2 minute movie that is the "Backstory" for why you will spend the next x amount of hours hacking and slashing. This goes for a lot of RPGs, too. I mean, how is Diablo and RPG?

Anyways, I have a bunch more quests to add tot he list and I promise I'll do it today. :D My character might retire today...I don't know if I'll play another...maybe just to get a list of all the adventures...

Oh, and cavaliers aren't on the first page of this thread. ;) Nor is LotR. :P (I'm just giving you a hard time, I don't mind where you post.)

manikus 09-10-2008 12:26 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Okey dokey, check out the post on the first page with the list of adventures - it is now complete. :)

In case you don't know ('cause I didn't) when your character retires at level 11, you're allowed to pass on one piece of equipment to your new character, so if you have an idea of what you'll play in the future, it'd be worth your while to hold onto something cool, even if your current character can't use it.

Uatu 09-10-2008 10:00 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Yeah - I'm still holding on to a few pieces of cruddy equipment (haven't found anything that nice yet) since I want to try a magic-using class next.

manikus 09-10-2008 10:17 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

I'm also going to try a magic-type next. Too bad I sold off all the cool stuff that I couldn't use. What's the point of ending up with like 15,000 gold pieces if there's nothing good to buy in the shop?

So, I'm playing a 10th level Paladin who went on a level 8 adventure (that I'd already beaten and quite easily) only have the die rolls go against me 7 times in a row. I lost the first 7 encounters before it knocked me unconscious. Talk about getting schooled by the Gods of Dice. :D:D:D

Uatu 09-10-2008 10:38 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Yeah - I got knocked unconscious in an adventure that was lower level than my PC, too...

manikus 09-10-2008 10:42 PM

Re: D&D Tiny Adventures

Yesterday, I could do no wrong, but today I've gotten knocked out three times in a row. So, I'm going to take a break from it for the rest of the day and maybe week. I guess we'll see how addicted to it I am. :D
