Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, June 6, 2008

Previous Cafe is here
Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, June 6, 2008

Hey everyone! I've been away from the Cafe for a week or so and thought I'd start us up a fresh one- fresh coffee, scones and iced tea are wating at the counter for you!

I've had a rather eventful week- I don't think I've mentioned that I've got asthma but it made itself pretty obvious last Sunday evening. I ended up in the emergency room after my husband called 911 and the medics couldn't get my breathing to be normal even after a tank of oxygen...very scary! I'm ok now, Thank God, but had to be off from work to rest all week. Seems a cold and allergies hit me with bronchitis that triggered the asthma.

I'm thinking harder on Animal's dying advice to all of us now... not taking life for granted .

What?!?!? A brand new cafe? Just 'cause the last one was from April...

School's out for my goblins today! Drinks on the house... and *DOUBLE* for me, since they're home for the summer!

*edit* Just read your post, Cloudy... Wowzah! :wow: I've had one asthma attack (years ago), and it was no fun :nono: I'm glad you're feeling better... although going through a whole tank of O2? That's impressive, lady... but not in a good way, unfortunately :( Soothing relaxing drinks for you... and I think of Animal's words as well. Hopefully, they're not going to become important in the near future, but one day, they will be.

G'day to all in the cafe

Strewth Cloudbringer! Hope you are getting better - Asthma is one of them things that is not only awful to have but damn near a nightmare for the loved ones around watching helplessly while you try to breathe, so cookies for Nacht too! My son suffers from it and has been hospitalised a few times over the years.

:bighug:

*gets out the 'top shelf' stuff fto share around* Bungleau, Whoo... summer must be here then! Of course it's been 86 degrees F with thundershowers today and our forcast for the next few days is temps in the high 90's with more of same.....so I might have guessed it was summer even if the kiddos were still in the schoolhouse! :D

Wellard, I remembered that your son was pretty sick a while back. Yes, as my doctor told me and my husband earlier this week "people die from asthma' so you need to take it seriously. Poor Jim was so rattled he took off like a madman and our friend (who was the one who knew how to get to the hospital the ambulance took me to) had to tell him to slow down several times so they wouldn't get into an accident. He was shaken up enough that when he was checking me in at the desk and they asked for our doctor's name he gave them his practitioner's name, not mine! :)

But, I am feeling a little better now although, I'm still on a whole pharmacy worth of meds! :P blech... Hubby's been great.. he's called every day to see how I'm doing and took some heat from his supervisor for missing the middle part of the day to take me to the doctor's.

I saw it johnny. I was either rooting for you guys or Croatia. I'm a bit disappointed I didn't put a couple of quid on you now...the odds will have dropped after giving out such a spanking :hehe:

The Italian defence looked fragile at best...I wasn't expected that.

Meh...at least they qualified *grumble*

Hello all, how is everyone doing?

This is some crazy weather we're having isnt it? Storms in Michigan almost every night for a week, and on Sunday, we even had a few tornadoes within a couple hours of my town.

Hello all,

Its been a while, sorry to hear you've been ill cloudy - the asthma hits me pretty bad whenever I have to dust the flat, tho that may just be a side affect of cleaning

Been trying to make a life as a pro-poker player - 'the hard way to make an easy living'

Any wild news for anyone in the past 6 months or so? :)

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, June 6, 2008

Anyone know what's good in video cards for under $300?

I need a new PCI-ex card. My old one died this weekend after about a year. Well, it might not have died exactly, but just randomly the video output cutoff completely and I ended up reformatting and having to pull the card to get things started properly. It may have just overheated (the heatsink was pretty caked up with dust), but that doesn't explain the lack of functionality what I tried to restart the computer. So I'm thinking it was either fried or the drivers went crazy. Or still possibly, though highly unlikely IMO, it could have been a problem of viral origins.

regardless, after all the frustration I feel like starting fresh. So what's big right now? ATI, Nvidia?

Update: I'm kinda thinking about the XFX - Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT . Anyone heard anything about it, had experience with it?

So do you play online or real world? I believe the real world is damn hard to play, the most I do is a few $$ at a friends house now and again ....and I loose often :(

A mix of both, generally online tourneys with a live local tournament maybe once or twice if its a good week. I'd agree real world poker is trickier but only because there are often alot less really bad players in casinos whereas online there is never a shortage of terrible players :D

What? There was a magic M&M jar around here and I didn't know about it? I could have been stuffing my face with little candy coated chocolates instead of running my mouth pestering people this whole time?

Yes there has been a jar of magic M&M's in the cafe for a long time. *while discussing the shocking theft of the magic M&M jar with FSA we continue to ignore the muffled cries coming from behind the counter .....*

Damn, I didn't know that either - have you been hiding them under your shirt, Wellard?

And what's that strange muffled thumping sound from behind the bar anyway?

Oh well...
*shrugs*
...can't be anything important, Scooby...

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, June 6, 2008

Anything harder than M&M's going?

Was just out on a bike ride with my youngest and some guys in a van came driving up behind us and whacked me across the back with a stick. Drive-by beatings - what the hell gives! I guess some people are just bad, no two ways about it.

The only good thing about it is that they did it to me, not him. Hurts like hell, and now I've got a bruise all across my back.

Didn't even get their number, back plate had fallen off (or was taken off) their van - and they just sped off after doing it.

So I guess mine's a double whiskey with ibuprofen on the side.

Strewth UV that is shocking ... and weird!
I hope you are going to be OK

Unglaublich Verwustung 06-14-2008 05:11 PM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, June 6, 2008

Yeah, should be fine - I come from hardy stock.

Wife was impressed with the bruise when she got back from her shopping trip...oh, wait, I remember now, she was unimpressed. And it's going to be a painful night trying to sleep, got a large welt the width of my back and the bruise is starting to come up nicely. Now I know how it feels to get hit at 30mph.

This neighbourhood gets worse as time goes on, we're planning on leaving once daughter finishes school - it's gonna be a long two years.

*Serves UV a drink himself because Cloudy is not around *

I wonder if the guys that whacked you also stole the magic M&M jar? ...and what is that muffled sound from behind the counter ....

Bungleau 06-14-2008 05:48 PM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, June 6, 2008

*WHAT???* Someone stole the Endless M&M Jar? Now *THAT* is cause for death... and worse!

Don't mind me... I'll be in the back looking for <strike>leftovers</strike> errr... clues, yeah, clues...

Wowzah, UV! I hope you can track those gomers down sooner or later... or that someone else does. And I know what you mean about being glad that it was you instead of your kid... that's part of a parent's thoughts.

If it's any consolation, since you were going the same direction, you actually got hit with less speed than they were going. See, if you're going 10 miles an hour and they hit you going thirty, it's only like you got hit going twenty... okay... I see... nope, doesn't offer any consolation at all, does it?

*sets up the next drink for UV, with a healing potion chaser.*

*hell, make it an extra-healing potion...*

Hello all! LOL! Wellard! Please let Skippy out from under the counter! ;) Hmm.. well, if the M&M bowl's gone for a walk... we do have an endless saltwater taffy bowl... but that's usually not as popular... *taps foot*..... hmmm.. let's see *rummages in drawer* wait... here we are! The bottomless jar of jelly beans! :D

Sorry I've been awol for a bit gang. Went back to doctor on Wednesday after being back to work for one day last week (out the week before) and my doc told me to stay home and rest and take a pharmacy's worth of meds until tomorrow when I go back to be 'cleared' to go to work again.

Been having bronchitis trouble which aggravates asthma and even on one antibiotic came down with other infections so had to swap antibiotics. Just wish I could say I feel rested after all this but it's not fair.. when you're sick, you rarely enjoy the time off! :P

Am hoping to get back to work this week and start catching up on all the stuff that's been piling up on me..sigh...

Holy Crap.. just a double.... I'd go for a whiskey IV with a nice slow drip.
Guess I need to send you a couple of rabid red neck gators to patrol the yard. ( Do you hear the banjoes....)
I should try that combination of Ibu and whiskey. That might make it easier to pronouce some of the names you make in EfU.
I sure hope you at least informed the police.
I'll PM you later to see how you are doing!

Yep still living in Camden, you may have heard of the furore and near riots over plans to build a massive Muslim school on some farmland, it has had the whole nation locked in debate.

Not seen Memnoch for a long while, guess he is too busy watching the cricket, should be a good last day of play against the west Indies starting in a few hours.

You still living in Shropshire / Shrewsbury way?

Funnily enough, I had heard about that School thing. Lots of similar stuff like that going on over this way as well. Awful lot of paranoia surrounding the issue over here. Some justified, but the greater majority is just garbage. To be perfectly fair though, the Catholic Church owns/owned(?) huge tracts of land around Campbelltown for ages and were starting to flog it off just before we left to come over here. St Gregs College had masses of land attached to it. How ironic would it be if a huge Muslim school were built on former Catholic owned land. :-)

Still in Shrewsbury, in fact becoming quite comfortable here these days.

So Mem's not a regular in here anymore then?

Strewth i had a scare today, deserted access road to a national park, on the motorbike doing the old fashioned ton (160km/h) when out bounces a bloody kangaroo! Talk about emergency braking and swerving (and going home to change my pants)

Skippy is going to be an endangered species when I get a gun :P

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, June 6, 2008

Hehe. :-) Watch out for 'dem cousins bro! :-)

I hit one once a long time ago.

Was traveling down to Perisher for the start of the Ski season with the girlfriend of the time. We'd borrowed her Dad's Datsun Kingcab. It only had about 4000 on the clock! We'd just passed through Cooma on the last leg to the Snowies. Was about 6.30 at night, you know, about dusk. I'd just overtaken a truck a few K's back when this head appears out of nowhere just above the bonnet! No time to brake, crunch! Girlfriend wakes up freaking. I'm freaking, because I've now come to a halt and I just know that the truck I've just passed isn't going to have much time to take evasive action. Drag the GF out kicking and screaming onto the embankment just as the truck swerves past missing the Kingcab by inches.

Spent the entire season working to pay for the damage. Frontend was totaled and had bent the crank shaft. The guy that came out with the towtruck later was scrabbling around on the side of the road after he'd hooked up the Kingcab. Asked him what he was doing. Looking for the Roo he says. I ask what for and he says he'll cut it up and feed it to his dogs.

Bloody expensive dog food! :-(

Driving home from work Friday there was a loud bang and my truck's engine seized. I have 19 days and just over 200 miles left on the extended warranty, I wonder how they are going to try and weasel out of fixing it.
