MM6 and MM7 Queries

I've finally finished Wiz8 so thought I'd try the above two games.

I have them with the Millenium Box.

How do I tell which version of each game I have and where can I load the Official Patches?

I have installed them both and they seem to run on XP. I'd just like to patch them so that I dont come across any game breaking bugs.

A trustworthy link ( I'm paranoid about getting trojans etc) to the Patches would be great.

Thanks in advance

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

If you enjoyed Wiz8, you'll enjoy these. They're the same kind of classic CRPG action that you see in Wiz8 :)

For the versions, if you right-click on the executable, it should show it in the properties. Seems to me that they display on a splash screen at the start, too, but I don't remember where.

As for resources, you can certainly ask here. There are a few MM players on the boards. For more focused efforts, however, look at...

There are a few others, but many of them link from there. At least Celestial Heavens, TELP, and Castle Gobs either have patches, have links to patches, or have people who know where the patches can be found.

After you've played MM7, plug in BigDaddyJim's mod to it. It changes the game quite a bit... in a good way, I think :D

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Thanks for the links. Can someone explain how the damage is calculated on weapons (not having played any D&D).

There is nothing in the manual and I've forgotten how its worked out eg a bow is 4d2 etc

Thanks in advance

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

ahh, you're thinking a little too much. just get out there and kick the crap out of stuff!!
what I do is, take the weapon and click on "stats". then equip the weapon. this way, you can see which has better to hit and damage stats. elemental damage is not factored in though.

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Hehe, still need to know the basics of those numbers though. Dont want to spend my money on a weapon thats not as good as the currenty equipped

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I almost never buy anything. there's way too much stuff in the game, just lying around. the shops are only to sell stuff; IMHO

But here's the damage thing:

Supreme flail: 2D5 +11 = 13-21 damage
Mekorig's hammer: 5D5 +15 = 20-45 damage

The game will basically roll 2 5 sided dice, which means 2-10 points of damage. Then add the plus of the weapon.

Excuisite long dagger is: 2D3 +7, which means...

9-13 if I understand it right.

I was not intending buying a load of stuff. Just buying everyone a bow and maybe some armour to start out.
I fidn the manual very poor. No basic explanations or spell lists etc and nothing on the CDs either

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

You are correct

I have the original strategy guide, which really helps. After a while, you just know every item by looking at it. The nod has changed many of the values though! The stuff on Emerald island all all pretty lousy, so don't worry about it too much. You will find some good stuff lying around with the mod though.

I always get a Scholar early on. You get everything identified and a 5% bonus on experience. I just hate not knowing what value the stuff has.
If you don't find one, go in the waterfall and come back out. All the NPC's will rest.

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I am currently playing Mandate of Heaven. I have not installed any mod for it. I just seem to be a little short of money, as I want to have all trained in bows, one in repair and one in merchant.

All good fun though

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

You understood right :)

Years ago, we played a computerized version of Yahtzee at a former employer. One day the computers were down, and my boss mentioned that it was too bad we couldn't play Yahtzee while waiting for them to come back up.

When I said that I could go home at lunch and come back with some six-sided dice, he looked at me funny, wondering what *other* kinds of dice there could be.

Needless to say, he found out.... :hehe:

Get your basic weapons, then upgrade as you either (a) find better stuff or (b) see better stuff in the stores. I wouldn't worry about armor until later... you'll find enough good and better stuff along the way.

FWIW, I look for four different kinds of valuable magics:

1. Armor of the Phoenix. +30 Fire resistance and regeneration... wonderful stuff :)
2. Weapons of the Dragon. +25 Might, +10-25 damage (or something like that)... makes warriors out of wimps.
3. Jewelry of Plenty, the Troll, Regeneration, Mana... Plenty is best, since it regenerates mana and HP. Everything else hits one or the other. When you see 'em, get em...
4. Anything of disarming. At least, if it's higher than your current plus to disarm. Trapped chests get to be very annoying... ;) In the early game, anything more than a +5 on disarm is useful. Max in the standard game is +25... worth having :D

Others may argue about priorities and such. They work for me, and I sometimes change them around too.

"Better stuff" is defined (in my book) as either doing more damage (5d2+3 >> 5d2+7) or adding magical damage (bow of infernos, plus 3-18 damage). Magical damage doesn't show on your stats screen when you equip a weapon.

I just checked my MM7 manual, and it has a full listing of all the spells and such. Not much detail (about a paragraph each), but it shows enough. I've got the original version (although I've probably got Millennium around somewhere)... I know TELP's got a full listing of spells for MM7 and higher, and a quick search showed that Tennessee Ernie Ford (better known as TEF) has a full listing here. You'll need to wander the links on the right-hand side... they come up rather small for me, but still work.

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I have printed sheets that tell where all the teachers are, the golem parts are and what the genie lamps do each month. I know I downloaded thee from somewhere; I just can't remember where.
They will be a little different in the mod.

Bungleau 04-21-2008 02:03 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I've got those too. I think I got them from Pottsland, but it seems to be down (or at least renamed).

I've got separate folders of printed stuff for MM6-9. Maps, teachers, quests... one of the more valuable ones is the map of the Barrow Downs. One of these days, I'll make a navigation cheat sheet so I can easily remember my way in (or out!) as well as which barrows I've already done...

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 04-21-2008 02:11 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

That's all in the my strategy guide, so it makes it easy.

I find the b'downs kinda dumb now. You find the keys, but you can't can't open the dang doors!

I'm glad they juiced up the perfect bow! It just wasn't great before.

MM9 really sucked! There is "0" replay ability.

Huwge 04-21-2008 02:15 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I have found the Potts site, I can connect, but sometimes it is very slow. I presume you are all talking about MM7. I've only just started MM6 atm, so will be a while till I get around to that.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 04-21-2008 02:24 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

There is a patch for MM6. Have you installed it? It doesn't do very much, but doesn't hurt to have.

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I have the Millenium Edition so I think its fully patched up (cant see the version number anywhere).

I just had a quick look at the manual for 7 and theres loads more info there..spells etc. Tha manual for 6 is very poor.

Good job theres some info on the net...and friendly people like yourselves on this board

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

What party are you using in MM6 anyway. It's quite different 'cos you can master anything you can learn. I MM7, you'll only get expert or master level, depending on your class.

If you're stuck for cash on Emerald Island: get your money below 200gold; have a character with luck of 15 or more and go to the well near the anvil. You'll get 1000gold. You can do this twice!

According to Klaravoryia (a former 3do community board member), patch1.2 is an integral part of the Millenium Edition of MM6.

Anyway, you might still need Mok's MM6 patch which fix a few more bugs.

However though, both patches didn't fix a major bug for melee/range (bow) characters. ie recovery bug. You will notice that your characters will fight very very slow. You will need to download a character editor to manually "fix" the bug.

Elrond's MM6 Editor

Since this is a character editor, you can edit other stuff in the game which may ruin/spoil your game fun. You have been warned! :P I myself just use it to 'fix' the annoying recovery bug.

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Thanks K,
That editor will come in handy!

I don't know what you mean with the bow thing though. How do you correct it with the editor?

What I mean is that this bug will effect your melee attack (sword, spear, staff etc etc) and your range attack (bow). Blaster skill doesn't seem to be effected by it since it can shoot as fast as you press the A button. This recovery bug is caused by having an armour skill, ie Shield, Leather, Chain and Plate.

To fix the bug caused by the shield skill, you'll need to give your character the leather skill and then master it.

To fix the bug caused by the leather skill, you'll need to give your character the chain skill and then master it.

To fix the bug caused by the chain skill, you'll need to your character the plate skill and then master it.

There's no way to fix the bug caused by the plate skill however. So your plate armour wearer (knight and paladin) will attack very slow.

For example, to fix the leather armour bug, I added the chain armour skill to my sorceror and then let him master the skill via the editor. However eventhough I have added the chain armour skill. I did not let my sorceror wear any chain armour because that'll be cheating. :P My sorceror continued to use leather armour. The chain armour skill is just there to fix the bug and nothing else.

Im using Knight, Archer, Mage (force of habit calling him a Mage) and Cleric. Not very imaginative I know but I like the more 'traditional parties'

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 04-22-2008 02:15 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Thanks K, that's good to know.

The way I play my parties now is to always take the same 4 characters. In Wiz 8 I always use the same 3.

Hey K,
Can the editor be used to always run without holding down the shift key? That would be handy. I just looked at it quickly this morning.

Hey B,
I still don't know how to do that stupid gauntlet thing. I never get a message or anything when I go to Harmondale

Bungleau 04-22-2008 04:00 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I'm not sure what triggers it (yet)... I ran into it in my last run of the prototype mod, and that's when the official version came out.

The steps (as I recall them):

1. Talk to LG in Harmondale, accept the Coding Wizard quest

2. At some point, when you come into Harmondale, LG shows up to greet you and tell you where the next step is on the way to the quest.

3. Follow the steps as given to you by the NPCs along the way. Eat all your apples before talking to the Duchess of Deyja.

4. Once you've talked to her, go to the entrance to the Gauntlet in Harmondale.

To make sure I'm not as stupid as I might be, are you getting past step 2?

BTW, there is an "always run" setting in MM7... my characters have it turned on! Check in Settings within the game... I forget if BDJ activated it or it was always there.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 04-22-2008 05:12 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Yeah, I'm talking about MM6 with the run thing; pay attention!! ;)

I know there a time with my last party when they teleported in. there was a guy with some message. That has not happened yet. And it happened with the Erathia teleporter, not the spell.

He says to find proof of the coding wizards existence, right? Yeah, I just checked; find proof that he's more than just a myth. It's stupid. Give a bloody clue as to where to look at least...

Bungleau 04-22-2008 05:52 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

You may need to start visiting people. In the shacks around the well and fruit tree in Erathia, up on the northwest side, is the first of the people you need to talk to. Check all the houses out there... she wasn't there originally.

She should then send you on to the next one.

Alternately, go talk to LG again and he may point you in the right direction.

GRrr... no gaming for the next two nights. On the road.... Evenmorn Island will have to wait.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 04-22-2008 06:05 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I've already talked to everyone in Harmondale and Erathia twice. Nobody knows squat.

Huwge 04-24-2008 12:30 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Ive switched to a Knight, Paladin (for some extra healing), Cleric and Mage.
Do any of the stats affect Identify etc. Nothing in the manual. I was wanting to give the Pally ID skill...he only has 5INT ?

Thanks in advance

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 04-24-2008 06:55 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Nope, ID is not reliant on any character stats. It's only for spell points. Intell. for mages, Personality for clerics.

Huwge 04-25-2008 12:43 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Thanks for that. Game is running ok so far on XP. Is it worth downloading the Mok patch or will I be able to make it through the game without encountering game breaking crashes / bugs?

Bungleau 04-25-2008 03:57 PM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I've played it on XP for a while without any issues (and without Mok's patch), but I downloaded it to play the mod. Your call as to whether you want to hook it up or not...

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

It says that Moks patch has better hardware support. Does the game look any better with it? (I do like the old look though....takes me back to better days )

Bungleau 04-26-2008 09:48 AM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

I always played with software acceleration, but with Mok's patch and the mod, am playing with hardware acceleration. I have to admit... it's better. Fireballs give off a range of effect, other spells just look nicer.... I'd suggest putting it in.

Kakero 04-26-2008 11:21 AM

Re: MM6 and MM7 Queries

Are you playing MM6 or MM7 Huwge? I don't remember any hardware acceleration in MM6.

Mok's patch make no change in the graphic department. It's the same I see.

Last he said was that he is playing MM6. There's that option when the game starts. I don't think software works on mine at all; just hardware. I don't really know the difference...

Yes MM6. I read somewhere that the patch improved hardware support. I may have confused with MM7 which I have installed but not started yet

My bad. I'm aware of Mok's patch for MM7. I don't know if there's another one for MM6 (although there *are* patches for MM6).

*edit* Mok *does* have a patch for MM6, and it addresses running as well. You can find it here... at least, I think you can :)

Hey Bungleau,
I'm just with the coding Wizard. My 4 fighters are at level 24 and he's telling me I don't qualify. WTF? I also can't leave the place and I can't reload to anywhere that makes a difference. Were my fighters supposed to get their upgrades or should I be on the light patch?
If that's the case, I should not have been allowed in, in the first place.

Can you find out what's going on here? At this point, I'm looking at a new game, which is a piss off!
