The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

In the Tradeway-Near Waterdeep, I opened one of the homes. It has NPC's and can help with your hunt. ;)
This isn't just a simple Egg Hunt as you will soon figure out. It's a really cool adventure through some NEW areas too!

The Treasures will be updated daily with new goodies--VERY cool stuff guys!

Just tried to log in and it started me off locked in the stargate room on level 2. I'll try again later, can't wait to see the new stuff.

Ditto, but you failed to mention how incredibly cool the stargate portal is.

Assuming that Z went to (a probably much deserved) sleep right after updating the server and posting this, I predict the server will open shortly after noon EDT (EST is the other half of the year).

The stargate portal is indeed very cool and has only heightened my eager anticipation of the coming updates. Great work as always Z.

I now predict that I will make no further predictions. :)

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

I just logged in and it took me right away to the locked area on 2 with the REALLY cool star gate. Tossed a few spells at it and the door with out any success had had to log. Hope this is a minor glitch

Triend again with a brand new build with the same start.... at the Funky Star gate

Found my 20 eggs (what fun! I *so* wanted to collect more -- remnants of my childhood), went back to Durnan, got the key to the Stargate room, found the Stargate room, activated the portal, tried to go through -- and crashed. Repeatedly. Help?

garrison 03-23-2008 11:23 PM

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

I was on with my wife (bipolarbear) and neither of us could enter the Unknown Area in Faerun without crashing. I tried three times with two different characters. Can someone who does not live with me confirm?

The egg hunt bit however, was a blast- we even found the house. I had no idea the peasants were so savvy.

EDIT: The crashing thing seems to be fixed now.

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

I'll keep the Egg event up till Friday or so.. It seems like a fun quest, and people like it, so we'll extend it ;)
I have a few other 'chain event' quests that are like this in the worls, but much larger and longer.. I like these kind of adventure quests! :)

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

Yeah they are fun. I remember Guildwars had one where you had to collect items from all over the 3 campains.

Once you had them all you could then use them to create a new mini pet.

Was cool

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

Went through the extended weekend of dial-up download fun to get into EfU, so I thought I'd better drop out of stealth mode.

Any chance someone new to online gaming, new to EfU, with a 7th level bard and limited play time can figure out the easter egg hunt before it vanishes? So far, I'm struggling to figure out where to begin...Snuck into the basement but it seemed too tough, so I went to the upstairs rooms, killed a mage and his pet and started wandering the hidden corridors. Got my butt kicked repeatedly by Drow Mages in the hall below the Blackstaff's place and decided I'd better head back for some scrolls to give me a little punch or find a new line of work. Stealth and invisibility don't seem to do any good around those guys.

Yes; you talk to the rest of us, discover that we are really nice people, will help you out with a bit of equipment to get you started, advise on builds, accompany you as you explore - works like a dream and sucks you into the whole world of online gaming, chat and general sociability.

Carson Drayke 03-25-2008 05:58 PM

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

Yeah, I haven't figured out how the whole communication/chat thing works, unless the person is in the room...last night there were a couple people on, and I got one message but I didn't know where they were and didn't know how to respond globally...was just trying to get my head on straight and check stuff out. I've lurked enough on the forum to have an idea on builds and stuff, but not much else.

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

Okay. That's easy:
to get everyone's attention you can shout - click on where it says Talk: in the toolbar bottom left and it will give you various options e.g Talk (to those nearby), Shout (to everyone, no matter where), Party (to those in your party, once you have joined one), Whisper, only to those very close etc.

Also to start a conversation to a specific player you can bring up the players tab, highlight the one you want and select "Tell player" from the list in that box. If they have already instigated it you can simply click on their icon in the conversation bar and that will bring up their name for you to talk directly or, to show off, you can type e.g. /t "Hogan the bow Sharp" and then whatever you want to say to that player (except if it is me because nobody has the characters on their keyboard to talk to me like that :D )

Hopefully that will get you started.

Unglaublich Verwustung 03-25-2008 06:09 PM

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

And just remember that, although we mostly don't mind shouting, on some servers it is considered the height of rudeness and can get you banned :D

Welcome Carson!! Next time I'm on I'll show some sights or give you a few toys to help get past some of the more difficult denizens ( you will alway know when Ung is on because you won't be able to pronounce it.. .. I think he is taunting me or questioning my parentage with some of those names....)

It's that Mac keyboard, man, I'm telling you. They are built different, or something.

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

Thanks...Garrison and Roddybug babysat and it went much better. However, now that I have an HIPS item, I need to rework my build to trade 10 SD levels for 13 Rogue.

Carson Drayke 03-26-2008 12:50 PM

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

How much should I worry about the XP penalty? One of the reasons for the SD levels was to get Epic Dodge without the penalty...I could try RDD and Dev Crit but that doesn't seem as much in character for an Elven Commando as Rogue or SD (and SD doesn't seem to offer as much for the levels).

robertthebard 03-26-2008 06:31 PM

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

What is your basic plan for the build? If it's simply Rogue/SD, then just stick with that. The problem with relying on items for feats for a prestige class, or skill set, is that Enforce Legal Characters is on, full time. With ELC on, if you find a better item, and replace the HIPS item, you won't be able to log the character back in.

Carson Drayke 03-27-2008 09:27 AM

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

No problems with ELC. I was planning a Bd/AA/SD, but with a HIPS item, I can switch to Bd/R/AA for the same basic character concept and a little extra benefit from the sneak attack damage. I know I may want to trade out the HIPS hood at some point for something else...no big deal, since it's not a prerequisite for anything.

Picked my Easter present. Cool, but I wonder how high my UMD needs to be to use Monk rings? Edit: UMD>=35 I would guess. May have to wait awhile.

Carson Drayke 03-27-2008 11:43 AM

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

Does any character other than an AA or WM have much of a chance here? I'm already thinking of trying something different like a druid/shifter...I know there has been one here in the past, but it seems like from all reports it's too tough to kill off the worst baddies without archer or master.

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

I did a lvl 40 Epic Bard that did ok. She had some struggles with some bosses, but with good buffs, and the curse song debuff, it made for some interesting fights.

Unglaublich Verwustung 03-27-2008 04:02 PM

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

I have a monk/rogue that does fine in most circumstances - can move fast and throw spells when required, and I have various other mixes including ranger/assassin and fighter/CoT/rogue who also do very well and can take on the bosses in admittedly long but always fun battle.

Toot, amongst others, has various Mage mixes, including the formidable Al, who are good enough to solo even in deep levels.

EFU is very well designed and set up with equipment to help balance out the various class combos and the truth is that most well-constructed and properly equipped characters can do well - just remember that the right equipment for a fighter isn't necessarily right for a non-tank and all will be happy-smiley in the end :D.

I have a monk assassin who's showing promise as well as a Blackguard whose only problem has been the herd of rust monsters on 14 munching his armor and leaving him to fight nekkid ;).

fighting nekkid is always funny but rusties should either be fought by monks with funky gloves or those with ranged weapons - don't let them touch you otherwise :)

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

Hint.

Use your crafting skills to change your amour to a robe.

Fools the rusties every time.

BTW, for a free 5 eggs, go into that house in the tradeway I opened--I updated the convo too.. (so you know he's part of the egg quest)

The man NPC will give you 5 eggs for some gold--and you'll get XP.

Is this some lesser known definition of "free" you're using?

:)

Re: The Egg Hunt Begins....... (And new areas)

If all he wants is gold, in EFU, then that's pretty free.
