Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

Previous Cafe is here
Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Happy Thursday, everyone! I restocked the muffins and cookies and I think there's corned beef leftover from the St. Patty's day festivities. :)

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

First post!!!

Extra corned beef over here, please... I missed it on St Patty's Day, an' there are some things that are just right... :D

Had a dentist visit this morning... visit number two for another crown. That's the last of 'em, at least for the foreseeable future. As usual, two shots of anesthetic to start off with, and extra time for it to take effect. Then a bit more as he got started... it truly sucketh to have such a tolerance for the stuff.

I read somewhere a while ago that the average person loses eight teeth in the course of their life (after their baby teeth, that is). I thought that was a lot until I considered it... I've had four wisdom teeth extracted, and have now got at least four crowns, which you could consider to be gone. Hmmm... really wish I hadn't mastered the art of opening pop bottles with my teeth when I was younger... :(

So, brighten things up a bit, will you? Who's got something going on today that's *BETTER* than going to the dentist?

Hmmm... well, my church currently has a 9000lbs. Indian elephant on it's front lawn. Is that better than a dental visit? :D

I guess that depends on whether or not you have to clean up after it... ;)

We're just hosting the animal for the weekend. The group that keeps her has there own personel looking after her. Good thing to, since I can't think of anyone on staff who knows anything about caring for an elephant.

You guys have corned beef for st paddy's day?

I like the stuff but I don't see the connection to the Irish :microwave:

I think people are past having any relation to irish in st. paddys day.

Most of the people I know just use it as an excuse to get drunk off their butts. Its sad , really.

And on a happier note! ...well, for me, it was a special weekend. As a Christian, Easter means a lot to me.
It was busy, but a good kind of busy.

So now, I'll have a cup of tea and relax at the cafe for a bit..

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

Found out Sunday that one of my cousins made vegan Corned Beef for St Patty's Day. I'm not *quite* sure how you can do that, but apparently wheat gluten factors into it substantially.... I'm not sure I'd recognize wheat gluten if it bit me on the gluteus maximus... ;)

And a happy (belated) Easter to you, Variol. It is a special day with special remembrances, and to me, the most valuable thing is what it makes me think about... I've gotten to be a lot more pensive and reflective over the past year, and faith is one of the best pensive and reflective areas.

On a different and yet positive note, I've been putting a focused effort into cleaning my office. May not sound like much, I know, but my wife has often pointed out how hypocritical it is for me to insist the kids keep their rooms clean... ;) I've thrown away a lot, and have narrowed down a lot as well. It's only the first round, and no where near done, but it's already making an impact.

Even found a newspaper from three years ago that I saved for my mom. It's a special section on hearing aids... 'nuff said :D

Ooh, now I feel guilty, mine is messy and getting messier as time goes on - but it's my mess and that makes a difference.

Ho hum, I'll drink my glass of wine and worry about the mess later.

We had a great Easter and I only wish we'd had another day off over the weekend to relax a little more. Did I mention how much work three kittens are? eef!

One found her way to the top of the alarm clock so we have to check that for any changes she might have made. Another has figured out he can escape the bedroom when we open the door and I found my flashlight, tissue box and lotion on the floor a number of times... after the tissues suffered major casualties we started removing it when not in the room....ack... I need sleep! :D

Well the one playing with the alarm clock must know that "time is fleeting" and the other " maddnes has taken control"... jumps to the left....

:D Yup, I do...but it really would be nice to sleep and not trip on things.. moving or otherwise! :D They are adorable when mellow, though...they just don't have much 'mellow' right now!

HAHAHAHA! Well, she IS the one who rockets off things without looking. I've seen her run right off the side of the bed a few times. :D

Iggy made a couple 'prison yard breaks' this morning, each time the bedroom door got opened he ran for it....and made it twice! LOL

Whoa.. that sure is an elephant there... yup, looks very much like an elephant...I'd say it was an elephant! Cool!

What.... I don't see any elephant... ;)

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

If you look over to the right, there's a lamp-post. Beneath that is a palm tree with a bush in the left foreground of that. And, if you look really closely and squint your eyes "just so", to the left of that you should be able to spot the elephant :hehe:

Firestormalpha 03-26-2008 05:41 PM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

you sure there's an elephant there? I only took the shot because I thought it strange that they'd put a sign about an elephant or lack thereof where there obviously isn't an elephant.

Random question, does anyone know if Sacred would run on a Vista system?

DrowArchmage 03-29-2008 02:11 PM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

it shoul run on it. I cant see a reason it wouldnt.

You havent seen pink elephants? What about little pink christina aguliera monsters?lol.

Cloudbringer 03-29-2008 02:11 PM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

I don't know how Sacred runs on the Vista os but they have a website that might help. LadyZ has hooked me on Sacred.. LOL, it's fun and open ended so you don't have to worry about missing much. It's great for those "I just want to bash orcs and not worry about the plot" days... :D

Hey Wendy! Just wondering how work is going today and if the guy who's leaving shows up! Hope you have a good day! Not too busy and not too quiet. Time drags for me when it's too quiet but too busy runs me ragged, so I'll wish you an in-between sort of day. :D

Ugh, rain and ice this morning, didn't anyone tell Mother Nature it's spring yet?! :P

Bungleau 03-31-2008 08:45 AM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

Morning, all! :happywave: Rainy here, but with highs in the 50s, it beats the heck out of snow. With luck, we're close to done for the <strike>winter</strike> spring, right, Cloudy?

Been playing the MM7 mod I came across, and I've got to tell you it's a lot of fun... almost like being back in the original days! A great way to waste my evenings again...

For today... paperwork and band practice on the agenda, and a couple of days in South Bend after that. Go Irish... go away, that is! ;)

Cloudbringer 03-31-2008 08:48 AM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

I sure hope so, Bungleau! The snow and ice is getting a bit tiresome at this point!

LOL, I revived my old Heroes of Might and Magic 3 a while back and have had some fun with it off and on when I need some relatively mindless gameplay. I forgot how much fun it was and how addictive it can get! Just one more treasure chest to open and then I'll quit..yah.. oh wait, some more mercury to pick up and gems.. wait.. I'll save in a minute.. there's gold over there! :D

Morning All.... I'll have a big cup of coffee and some bacon and eggs if we are placing orders. Just trying to figure out what to do on this dreary rainy day in " sunny FL" before I take my daughter to have her cochlear implant looked at. Her appointment is at an odd time and usually takes forever so I guess I wont start on any projects today :) (darn being on vacation and can't do any honey do's for another day.. the horror of the situation)

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

Such a shame, toot033... maybe you can get working on it tomorrow... or the next day... ;)

Went upstairs a few minutes ago, and saw that the rain we're having is pretty substantial... not quite a downpour, but well more than a trickle. And the skies are all grey and dark... gloomy, really. Cue the dreary music... and sign me up for some o' that good food to keep things going :)

I think it might have been sunny here today but I'm too far from the window - damn, must move desks - what the hell is the point of seniority if you can't kick someone out of their window spot.

It's that time of the year again. Just ordered my Leeds Festival ticket :D let's see if this year can beat the last. Waking up with a can of carlsberg and a packet of mini chedders, mmmm

If you woke up and still had a can you're doing it wrong - you're supposed to drink it, not cuddle it!

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone, March 20, 2008

Bah, you know what I mean. Wake up, get a can, open can, drink can, repeat until it's time to go see some live music.

And always wearing the straw hat, flowery board shorts and sunglasses.
