BG2 and Vista
Yes, it is another fantiastic thread on running old games on vista, and how it does not work.
I tried installing BG2, but the colour is messed up. Simple as that so far. There are probably other problems going to appear, but I'm sure I can work around them when I come to them. Any ideas how to get it to work? If you need to know any info I haven't put, just yodel and I'll get it. Cheers DS |
Re: BG2 and Vista
Right-click the shortcut or the exe and choose "Properties". Then under Compatibility, set it to run in Windows XP SP2 mode.
You might also try the checkbox, "Run as Administrator". Failing that, try other compatibility modes (Windows 2000, ME, etc) |
Re: BG2 and Vista
Thanks for the advice.
Oddly, when i reinstalled it, it started working fine on its own... I don't understand vista at all. |
Re: BG2 and Vista
Does anyone know how to get to the SAVE folder for BGII on Vista. I am trying to put my saved game on a flash drive then reboot my system. (I noticed there was a previous thread about this, but the question wasn't answered)
This is what it says in the read me document: "To import a character from a saved game (either from Baldur's Gate, Tales of the Sword Coast, or Baldur's Gate II) copy the save directory into the directory entitled SAVE in the Baldur's Gate II root directory. Then, begin Baldur's Gate II, start a new game, choose the import option at the bottom of the screen and follow the instructions." |
Re: BG2 and Vista
C:\Program Files(x86)\Black Isle\BG2\Saves

Your save folder is definitely in the following location: C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\save C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\mpsave (for multiplayer) Unless you have Windows or BG2 installed to a custom location. If you cannot find the save folder, make sure you actually have a save file. You could also do a windows search for: *.sav |

C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\ <- I can get to this, but not farther than that. |
Re: BG2 and Vista
Click your Windows 'Start' Orb. Your cursor should be in a "Start Search" field. Type in: *.sav
When the search window pops up, if it completes and does not find it, you may have to find the "advanced search" button and tell it to search in your program files folder. If it STILL doesn't find it, I have to seriously wonder if you even have a game saved.... |
Re: BG2 and Vista
Saves in Vista are saved in the personal Documents. I don't remember exactly which folder, however. Do a search on the name of the savegame file, and it will tell you where they are stored.

Re: BG2 and Vista
Still doesn't show my BG SoA saved games for some reason. I looked online and it said that I have to go to all programs >> games >> games explorer, then click on my game, click on the arrow next to play and click on 'saved games', unfortunately there is no 'saved games' to click on for BG SoA. If anyone else has vista, can you try this and see if you can see your saved games this way? (BTW I definitely have saved games, that was an unnecessary comment)

Re: BG2 and Vista
I too have run into the exact same issue. Shadowkeeper can find my saves, but I can't access them any other way, other than loading and saving ingame.
Stupid Vista. |
Re: BG2 and Vista
Dang. Maybe if I completely explain my situation someone might know something. I have a RunDll virus on my laptop. The only thing I have saved of any importance is BG SoA saved game which I have been playing for a year now (spread out every now and then, during breaks, etc.) So I am trying to reformat my laptop so I can get rid of the virus. Kyrvias said "Shadowkeeper can find my saves" how do I do that, also does any one know how to remove the virus. That would save me a load of trouble. The error comes when I turn the lap top on, the window says I cant find some file, then I press okay, then everything on the screen disappears, and only the background left, then I have to restart it, etc, till it works.

Re: BG2 and Vista
Are you SURE it's a virus, and not just a corrupt file?
If it is indeed a virus, you may want to,,,,uhhh,,DL or install an AV program?!? YaThink? It sounds as if you can get to the desktop after multiple boot attempts,,,is this so? If you CAN get to the desktop occasionally, then you can do a search (DON'T USE INDEXING!!!!!) on the name of the savegame. It will tell you where it is. I can save you some time, if you will listen. AS I SAID BEFORE.....Vista defaulted my BG1 saves to my Documents folder,,,in one of the 'user' folders. Try looking there. |

Re: BG2 and Vista
Okay I think I found them, so Kyrvias if you still cant find them go here.
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\save |
Re: BG2 and Vista
May not be the smartest idea, I'm not sure, but I've always created a seperate folder just for my games, I usually put it right under C:\Games etc.
Some save files are under the user folders, but most older stuff I've found right in the games location. |

Re: BG2 and Vista
Well, Vista IS pretty bad, but I think calling it a Virus is a little harsh.
