Ideas for a villain....

I need help for a villain for my design. Does anybody have any ideas?

Dinonykos 12-17-2007 12:22 PM

Re: Ideas for a villain....

You could create a guy with white skin, greenish hair, evil laugh and an evil grin in his face, perhaps he could use joke articles to kill people...

Where did i get this idea? :D

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Just kidding, but I guess all of us would need some more information concerning you design. Furthermore, you did not tell if you mean the main villain or only a minor villain. I mean, the main villain and the background story are certainly stronly connected, right?

Please, fill us in a little more...

Re: Ideas for a villain....

I fear I had too much villain ideas for my adventure, therefore I planned it too huge in the beginning. I wanted to have the Ursurpator, the weird masterbrain, the Jabba-the-Hutt guy, the lawful evil Samurai type, the fat old woman, the little kobold, the hellish entity, the evil religious cult leader and so on. A yes, the alien gene manipulator. And these were only the main villains... :D

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Wow! That's a lot o villainy! (I don't have any villains at all in my "game" - it seems that it will be a dungeon romp, so far...)

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Of course, you could always have the PCs be the villain and their adversaries would be the heroes. :D Maybe this wouldn't even be obvious at the beginning, but through a series of events...

Dinonykos 12-18-2007 12:20 PM

Re: Ideas for a villain....

However, from the villain's point of view, the PCs may be villains even if they are the heroes. :D Does Funky Dynamite need ideas for a hero now?

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Ideas for a hero....
No, I don't. What do you think Funky Dynamite is? :) He's my PC. No, seriously, he is....
Anyway, duh, I'm a moron...ok, my design is going to be a typical dungeon crawl, in this case, through a very large castle. The typical action is going to be broken up by having to find clues and solve a mystery. The PCs take on the roles of detectives. Though my campaign has some modern elements, I didn't want to a modern day game. I wanted this one to be a fantasy. I don't know what kind of mystery it'll be yet. That's what I need a villain for, to help me figure out the timber (I think that's the right word) for the adventure....
Incidentally, originally I was going to have the player play -one- character, I rethought that and I'm thinking the player can make any character he/she wishes....

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Nevermind, guys. I finally my head huncho villain is going to be a mummy, ala Baldur's Gate II (PS2). I just need to figure out who his subordinates are.... :\

Re: Ideas for a villain....

By the way, there is no way of doing weather efects (i.e. lightning) on DC, is there?

Dinonykos 12-20-2007 03:30 PM

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Animated rain is certainly a problem (because animated walls/backgrounds are not yet doable), but you can use a sprite pic with a lightning bolt, add a proper lightning-bolt sound and trigger both with a step event that happens from time to time. Kind of summer thunderstom... :)

Re: Ideas for a villain....

I once thought about a level with snowcover during winter months and without snow for the rest of the year. This could be triggered by the party time and realized either with two levels for one (one with snow, on without :) ), or with the set global ASL wall command (change walls to snow covered walls). I did not follow this idea for long, because I thought it would be too much effort compared to the resulsts...

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Yeah, the idea of a step event struck me too. Thats what I'm probably going to do....

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Yeah, to duplicate the effects of weather like savage frontiers is beyond DC right now. But you could script in a cycle of "X amount of days do this", then "X amount of days do that". Perhaps there should be the ability to change your backdrop like we can the wallslots, so as to put a snow backdrop ;)

Re: Ideas for a villain....

You could do an overcast backdrop with streaks and alternate it with another backdrop of similar design. It would change as you walked and at least give a lilmited illusion of rain. You could play a rainstorm sound looped to finish the effect.

Re: Ideas for a villain....

After playing thru (the expansion packs of) morrowind: elder scrolls 3, and they have a part of the game in the bloodmoon expansion where it starts to snow. This was such an awesome effect that I immediately thought "lets do snow in DC". I then launched into the defense of sprites and how they could do weather effects. Now if they worked right they could do weather effects (and that means that you could display them in any event that shows artwork (so only utilities and logic block should NOT allow them) and they should be able to cycle on command, as well as show any of the 3 frames on command)

Alas, AFAIK, they do not work right. But as an additional feature, they should be usable on the overland map (imagine a map of your land and you put a sprite that shows the "enemy army" as it marches across the land ;))

I think we should be able to do bigger pictures on the combat screen as well, like you cast a spell and a dragon head breathes fire on the combat map, ala Golden Axe.

Re: Ideas for a villain....

You can do bigger pictures on the combat map already. :)

SilentThief 12-20-2007 09:45 PM

Re: Ideas for a villain....

ok, but if you have a dragon head and it breathes fire on the screen, I don't want it to "travel" to the other icon, nor do I want it to stay on just my spellcaster. Perhaps I should play around with it, tho and see if I can do what I want B 4 I rant about it :D

:)
It's the coverage sprite.
:)

Re: Ideas for a villain....

So I tested this out, and it works as you said (I did a dragon head come down from above and breathe on the combat like Golden Axe, only thing was this dis-embobied head showed that there should have been a body attached ;) ). Just to recap, you can have as big a "coverage sprite" as you want (altho you prolly wanna stay within the combat frame...). Too bad my artwork is so-so :(

Maybe someone here on the forums can help you out with the art you need...

Re: Ideas for a villain....

yeah, I'm gonna need to ask for help. I cannot draw people or creatures (or backdrops). Can't do much in a mod without them ;). Figure I'm not going to do the "annoyingly long maze with no encounters", just bcz I need some art lessons (badly ;)).

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Art just like anything else - practice, practice, practice. Sometimes you have to work smarter instead of harder, which is why I use DAZ|Studio - no matter how long I practice I won't be able to turn out the great work that Dinonykos and Uatu are. :) But, my icons and walls are so much better now than when I started, that it's like I'm not even the same person. :D

Uatu 12-22-2007 04:46 AM

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Yeah - things definitely get better as you go on. (The first icons, etc. are always going to be test attempts, just because you haven't made any yet - the 5th and 6th time will always produce better stuff :D )

Smarter also helps, too! ;)

Re: Ideas for a villain....

Well, I've managed to learn one shading technique from MS-Paint, you resize to like twice the size of the picsize you want to end up with and then put a black background, then cut it out and resize back down and it'll have the primary color and an outline that is a darker shade.

Anyway, could you post a screenshot of this?

Yes, a screenshot please. :D
