PC Totally Run Amok
I just heard on the radio news that some idiot Colorado school principal has banned 'tag'. It leads to bullying. The kids can still run, but they can't chase each other.
Where does this kind of BS stop? |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
Oh you know, we're obviously incapable of thinking for ourselves, so *someone* has to protect us! We of little intellect and capacity for growth.....
Ridiculous..... |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
lmao this is prob. a joke
|
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
I really wish it were. It's an indication of how much people want to control what other people think, and do.

Re: PC Totally Run Amok
I'm about to go out on a limb here, and probably will attract the ire of many.
It's women. Plain & simple. Women (soccer moms, etc.) have brought the U.S. into jelly-like complacency. "Oh NO! little Johnny might get HURT!" The more comfortable we become as a nation, the more the women want to protect us from ourselves. I mean, I know testosterone is a TERRIBLE thing (lol), but apparently we men can't do ANYTHING without hurting someone's FEELINGS or making them feel alienated. So, it is up to the womb-bearers to save us. I could get highly philosophical on this, going back to the beginning of time, but I'll spare us the litany & wait to see how badly I get crushed for this post. Edit: wait! truly it is the MENs fault, for needing to get laid soooooo bad that they will give such arguments credence & actually think that they are doing mankind a service. No-backbone-having wussies! Come on, it's not LOVE, it's just vagina! |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
I don't think this is a phenomenon that affect only women, and I don't think it's just politically correctness, it's broader than that.
It really seem to me about control and people being scared; of getting hurt either physically or emotionally, or more and more these days of other people's opinions of them. I see this current case as more about people being afraid of human contact than of bullying. OMG! people touch each others while playing tag, that's not proper in our society! Kindly run alone and keep a reasonable distance from anyone else, least they get uncomfortable. It seem to me the ideal society these days is a society where everyone wear the same bland clothing, only say pre-approved things, of going to work at your appointed job, eating alone, then going back home in your suburban home. People are afraid of uncontrolled environments. Everything has to be controlled, standardized, pre-approved, and with as little meaningful human contact as possible as we haven't found a good way to control that yet. That's what political correctness is about, controlling human interaction. It's not proper to touch people, it's not proper to do or say certain things. It's not proper to dress in certain ways. Control, norms. |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
Yeah maybe so, Luvian.......
but that is SOOOOOOO wrong! It defeats everything that being a human is about......... ( I think the women started it though...... they're the ones with FEELINGS about ridiculous stuff.....like getting your feelings hurt....) :fro: |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
Next thing you know they'll cancel sports for fear of emasculating those who are unathletic.
Personally I don't think Women have anything to do with it. Just a general coalition of pansies who made their way into power at some point or another. Speaking of which, what's with all the 99.9% antibacterial soaps out there? Believe it or not there is such a thing as too clean. Not enough dirt and bacteria and your immune system has nothing to work with. Next common cold lands you in the hospital. |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
I myself hated "musical chairs" as a kid. It's like a bully game where all the bigger people win basically no matter how fast you are. Down with Musical Chairs! http://www.wizardrealm.com/smilies/disgust.gif :hehe:

Re: PC Totally Run Amok
Kickballs out next, as well as Dodgeball and other like games. I mean all those big bullies lobbing balls at little Jimmy, I don't think he can handle it.

Re: PC Totally Run Amok
This would be funny, if it weren't so sad; In basic training, we were not allowed to practice hand to hand combat, since somebody might get hurt. I guess somebody did get hurt the cycle before mine, and their momma tried to sue the Army. Ok, it's the Army. Heaven forbid the enemy might shoot at us, or we run out of ammo...Granted, that was the National Guard I was going for, but there were regular Army boys in there too. We had to run in jogging shoes too, no boots for boot camp...Well, at least not for PT.

Starting Jan. 2008 all military weapons will be replaced with super soft fluffy pillows, and bubble guns.

My old primary school also banned British Bulldog when I was there. *sigh*

Re: PC Totally Run Amok
I have the same issue with kids' sports at our local YMCA. Officially, there are no winners or losers, and they don't officially keep score... but every kid knows what the score was after the game, and whether they won or lost.
Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. You deal with it. Except for those who make up ridiculous games where no one loses, which also means no one wins. Ridiculous. |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
What ever happened to losing building character? Now it just makes mommy go to the lawyer's office. I remember when a child that wasn't good enough didn't make the Little League team. Now, everybody plays is the rule. "But little Jimmy might get his feelings hurt if he can't play". Maybe, but maybe he'll practice more, and make the team next year. By all means, let's not teach our children that anything worth having is worth working for.

LadyZ...I wasn't a big fan of musical chairs, either.. but sometimes it was fun just to run around and second guess the next guy as to when the music would stop....didn't make being sat on much fun though! LOL |

It does seem to me that it is always the female gender involved in this touchy-feely "everyone's a winner & no one gets left out" stuff. I was a total geek in junior high/high school, a little athletic but got bruised in any contact sport....tall & lanky, basically clumsy. I believe it was a large part of the reason I started playing bass guitar, got into a band, and *boom* everything changed! I had the hottest chicks around, made a decent amount of $, and opened for some great bands. Truly it was the best time of my life, and I think if I had NOT been "picked on" at times in my life, I would probably have amounted to nothing..... which is likely the end result of this "PC" that we seem to have embraced. It makes everyone feel that they *deserve* something, instead of feeling the need to WORK hard for it and improve themselves, even at the cost, sometimes, of (god forbid) a bruised ego. mamby-pamby. (dunno why I said that, I just like the way it sounds.... :)) |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
LOL, my hubby just said "well, he's got issues, but he's got a good point", so I guess we'll leave it at that cuz I sure don't think our PG rated board can handle any more stories of your dates and their penis issues... ;) :D :D :D

Same here. We renamed it, so when they said "You can't play bulldog" we simply replied we're not we're playing x. I remember at one time it was called creamcakes |
Re: PC Totally Run Amok
oh yeah....ok......sorry 'bout that....
I was finished anyway, but I don't think I have issues any more than anyone else. I just think I'm right..... (is that an issue?) :) |

Well, "Every Marine should look like a Marine. But a Marine only looks like a Marine with his bayonet stuck into the chest of his enemy." Please then, explain to me why Marines no longer train with bayonets, but use sticks!?! http://www.okinawa.usmc.mil/Public%2...0210-jgsdf.jpg I guess the good ol days are truly, GONE! http://www.mcnews.info/mcnewsinfo/ma.../scuttle1a.jpg Don't forget about the stress cards now, little "jimmy" can't take all of that hard physical labor, AND being told what to do, how to do it, and NOT asked! I guess when the enemy uses "REAL" explosives, and shoots with "REAL" bullets, little "jimmy" won't be asking how come he has to drop, roll, put his chest armor up, and return fire. WRONG! Little "jimmy" wants to go back to his mommies house! And that folks, is what is happening to Americas youth! Then you have the hard core, "Take what they can get, then take it back to the streets"! The gangs of the Army, well actually, more than just the Army! |

Too late, we're all picturing giant male organs trying to eat the world...it's err... ok.. I know I need more sleep...but that image is gonna haunt us.... ;) Well, as for the topic at hand.. I do agree that we've taken litigation to new heights...or more aptly, 'lows' in the US lately. Playing tag is just one more victim in the long run. |
