I did a test on my cable/broadband connection and it came back with a DL at 5072Kbps and an UL at 369Kbps.

What is everybody else at? Am I low, average, or high?

If you do not have a test site readily available and are in the US, you can use this one.

Edit: I just called RR and asked them what my top speeds should be. He responded thus:

DL: 3000-5000Mbps
UL: 385Kbps

Neat test. Looks like I'm at 11,639kbps DL and UL at 329. That's with the local comcast cable.

Speak easy has shown up on IW again :D

Download Speed: 5744 kbps (718 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 6954 kbps (869.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

that's my results :D

Using a European server to test speed, because on the US ones proposed by speakeasy, I only got 1 mbps...

That's really weird, Dplax - your upload speed is more than twice your download speed.

Bungleau 05-03-2007 03:53 PM

Around 3400 download, 350 upload.

Speakeasy:
Down: 5868 kbps
Up: 5368 kbps

Speedtest.net (amsterdam server)
Down: 14273 kb/s
Up: 16688 kb/s

Note that this last one is not a fluke, we've tested it again and again.

So it looks like I am average or low, depending on area.

Now...let me mention that I know from listening to a radio financial advisor say that the US has the worst internet speeds in the world, and the highest prices. He says that any Asian connection is at least double the speed and half the price of any American one, and that is because of the crookedness of the businesses. I hate knowing that I am spending $45.00/month, and getting only half of what some of you are posting getting in DL speed. I want my money's worth!

That radio financial advisor's talking a load of rubbish, Larry. The US actually has pretty fast broadband - I'm not sure about continental Europe, but it's pretty similar to the UK. Australia is way behind - the fastest "fraudband" speed when I was there was about 4Mbps on cable, and 1.5Mbps on DSL. And he must have just been referring to Japan when he talked about Asia, because whenever I've travelled in Asia the line speeds have been woeful. Maybe Dundee can share his thoughts on broadband speeds in Singapore, but I know in places like Hong Kong, the Philippines, India, etc it's really slow - they consider 1Mbps to be fast.

robertthebard 05-04-2007 12:18 AM

Mine's cool, 11,649kbps download, 1068kbps upload...Cox Cable connection.

Winter Wolf 05-04-2007 09:39 AM

China gets NOWHERE near what you're getting, Larry. And Hivetyrant is right, I'd be willing to sacrifice a large ox to get that kind of internet speed. Or how about this: you don't get anywhere near the level of censorship that I get on my net connection. If I had to pay $60 USD a month to have the kind of connection you have, I'd be willing to do so.

Ayup, I'm jealous of what you've got.

Larry_OHF 05-04-2007 07:49 PM

Ah...I see...well then, that puts things in a new perspective.

I wonder how the crap you other guys are getting twice what I have then. Are you paying the same or less than me?

Sir Goulum 05-05-2007 06:08 PM

Download Speed: 6771 kbps (846.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 253 kbps (31.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Why is my upload speed so crappy...

Gabrielles blades 05-10-2007 12:58 PM

yuck, my DL is only 3k with an UL of 300
and we just upgraded our broadband second teir service as well.
