In an average day how many hours would you say you spend doing things that aren't important, when you could be doing something constructive?

Sir Goulum 02-24-2004 10:48 PM

IMO, too many...

wellard 02-25-2004 03:26 AM

Way way to many, but relaxing is important I guess

RoSs_bg2_rox 02-25-2004 06:14 AM

depends what day it is. Some days it could be the whole day, others a few hours. So I I think il vote about 3 hours as that would be average of days where i dont waste the whole day if u get what i mean

dplax 02-25-2004 06:54 AM

About two hours daily.

Loudhy 02-25-2004 07:45 AM

I do not waste time. Even if I am sitting in my chair, feet on the table, watching horrible tv-shows or sitcoms and drinking beer I do something constructive :

Beerbrewers and my Cable-TV provider can earn money, the entertainers can keep their jobs ,I relax to keep my power up for work next day and so on .... :D ;)

But I think Blind_Prophet, your definition of constructive is a little bit different from mine ?

RoSs_bg2_rox 02-25-2004 10:46 AM

i dont really consider it wasting time though, I mean it is, but I enjoy it, and I cant really think of anything I would like to do better, so its just having fun!

Illumina Drathiran'ar 02-25-2004 10:56 AM

About four hours... Here I'm counting excess time spent in the shower, lying in bed in the morning attempting to get up (25 minutes, probably), and sitting around, waiting. I don't have the heart to say posting on IW, but the time I spend gaming is certainly a waste of time, sure.
My rule of thumb is, it's a waste of time only if you do it alone and to excess. If you were to game, say, for one hour with a friend every few days, that's not really a waste of time. That's a social thing.

RoSs_bg2_rox 02-25-2004 11:28 AM

so if u were to game, for say 3 hours everyday (excluding weekends, thats a differenct story :D ) on your own, then you would consider it a waste of time? What if it was online???

Aelia Jusa 02-25-2004 04:25 PM

None ;) . You can't work all the time; it's not good for your physical or mental health. I never shirk my responsibilities and everything I need to do gets done, plus I enjoy all the leisure I need to to refresh myself for doing more work.

Congratulations! Consider yourself the proud winner of Arledrian's understatement of the year award 2004. Here's your trophy. It's a little heavy, but I figured it could occasionally double as a substitute for you in your industrious capacities... as a paperweight, or a doorstop, for instance. :D

As for me wasting precious hours, forget it. Even my chill-out time is sacred. Besides, are reading, drinking, and video games really considered a waste? :D

johnny 02-26-2004 09:06 AM

Define constructive.

Some people might regard spending time on the internet, or playing a game a waste of time, i don't. It's my hobby. It's all in the eye of the beholder. :D

If you look at what I posted at the top you will clearly see it says " how much time do you spend doing stuff thats not important" so yes playing a game and time on the internet unless its paying bills, shoping, taxes, or research, it is considered by me in this survey as a waste of time.
Pish :D . Can I help it if I need a LOT of leisure to refresh myself? :D Anyway I stand by my position. I never play if I have work to do, and I never leave work to the last minute or do a less complete job than I could have if I'd spent more time on it. So I don't see time not spent working a 'waste' because there's nothing else I should be doing in that time.

I think if you have the attitude that Blind Prophet is taking in this poll, that anything non-work or non-essential is considered a waste of time, then you'll suffer from a lot of guilt if you do 'waste time', or burn yourself out trying to fill every hour with worthwhile activities.

Epona 02-26-2004 07:59 PM

I don't waste time, I enjoy it.
Where it all goes to is another matter.

Blind_Prophet 02-26-2004 09:06 PM

Grrr Thats enough rationalizing for this poll....but I guess its my fault for not being specific enough.

No, you were specific enough. But what's a waste of time for one person, is quality time for another. Personally i think it's a waste of time to work too much.

Time spent doing stuff I want to do is time well spent in my book. Work is something you do so you can afford fun.

Jorath Calar 02-27-2004 01:18 AM

It only went up to 10... not enough for me... I feel my day is always wasted... no matter what I'm doing...

Kakero 02-27-2004 04:11 AM

For me it's 24/7. I don't see that in the poll though.

About 3 hours for me. And if you include hanging out with friends as wasting time (it's not IMO), then it's a couple hours more

So then, for instance, reading this far down on this poll could be a waste of time. I agree.

However, as lomg as you get all that is planned completed, and still have hours in the day left, then by my book, use it for whatever!

GokuZool 03-05-2004 06:36 AM

Depends. If I know I have to do an assignment, I can waste up to 3 hours. :D

Normally, an hour or so.

Xen 03-05-2004 03:56 PM

I don`t waste time.
