LOL, I was watching American Idol last night - are these people deluded or what? By the end of it I decided they must be paid by the producers to spice up the show a bit, they couldn't really think they're talented (surely!) :D

Anyway, what about you? Can you sing? Do you sing?

Chewbacca 01-25-2004 07:36 PM

I rap and sing. I rap better than I can sing.
Oh, yeah I also write lyrics.

GokuZool 01-25-2004 07:44 PM

You watch American Idol? Reality TV really shits me at the moment - (Australian Idol, World Idol, American Idol (3), Australian Idol 2, My Restaurant, Average Joe, Pop Stars Live, Big Brother 4, Bachelor III, Bachelorette - Arrgghhhhh!) It's too much.

Back on topic.... ( )

Most people can sing - the majority however, not very well.

Illumina Drathiran'ar 01-25-2004 11:22 PM

This is a difficult question because, as American Idol shows, many people *think* they can sing when in reality they can't. I for one can say that yes, in fact, I can sing quite well. This isn't my opinion, but the opinion of several brutally honest (and oft downright cruel) choir instructors.

shadowhound 01-26-2004 12:18 AM

I can sing, as a matter of fact I am singing right now... don't know how well though :D

Loudhy 01-26-2004 12:42 AM

When I'm singing, my girlfriend runs out of the house and into the woods. She says, that's the only way to save her ears :D .

Anyone can 'sing' (ie: hit the vocal notes that they want to hit), it's just a matter of concentration and conditioning your vocal chords with practice. Like training for a marathon, you have to repeat the necessary mental and physical excercises to get in 'singing' shape.

Illumina Drathiran'ar 01-26-2004 01:34 AM

'Course, you have to admit that some peoples' voices are more pleasant than others.
However, having a less-pleasant or downright comical voice is in no way an obstacle to success.
Look at Nathan Lane!

philip 01-26-2004 10:10 AM

I try to grunt with the music I'm listening to, sometimes it goes well sometimes not. Though it's definitely not good for your throat :D As for singing I don't think it sounds good

Sometimes I think of some lyrics but I'm not in a band so furthest they have come was playing a bit on my keyboard with them.

Stratos 01-26-2004 11:19 AM

Can I sing? It depends on who you ask. :D

dplax 01-26-2004 12:39 PM

I can sing in tune but it won't sound good.

RoSs_bg2_rox 01-26-2004 03:50 PM

I can kinda, although the best lyrics I ever made up were in about p4 (at the age of what.....9 maybe) I and some friends wrote a rap, its really cool, even now I look at it and think "how the hell could I have made that up then!"

Some people would have to do a lot more training than others to sing in tune though - and judging by Idol, they haven't, and don't realise they need to ;) . I have a good ear, so I can sing in tune and harmonise without training or practice, though my voice is weak and I have no range lol ;) . But I remember one chick when a friend and I were playing our clarinets practicing for some band thing and she couldn't tell that we weren't playing the same note. She'd need a little more help :D

LOL, GokuZool, some 'reality' TV is dire isn't it? But what can I say, it was a slow night! Non-ratings and all ;) . I'm really hanging out for 'How clean is your house' - a more intriguing concept for a TV show I haven't heard! :D  ;)

::takes one glance at Aelia's post, picks up the phone, and calls Fox, which is on the speed dial:: Alright... They HAVE to listen to this one! They HAVE to! They laughed at my other reality show ideas, but this one is gold, restraining order be damned!

I can't sing a note, but my friends and I have sung at karaoke bars when I was drunk. A lot of fun I sing much better with a few beers in me.

Uh, sorry, it's already been thought of :D . I didn't actually make that up, I've seen that touted as one of the reality shows coming up this year :D

Illumina Drathiran'ar 01-27-2004 05:19 PM

Really? For the love of Bhaal, I didn't think that could possibly be true! I thought you made it up!
It is most intriguing, though. I should enter my family's house.

RoSs_bg2_rox 01-28-2004 05:15 AM

I can also whistle scales :D Does that count?

Link 01-28-2004 05:32 AM

I can sing yes, do it once in a while as well. My voice ain't something very special, but it's okay.

Arledrian 01-29-2004 01:02 PM

I sound like a cat choking on a tuna bone whenever I exert my vocal cords, but it never stops me from having a good old sing-song in the shower and car. It makes me happy, it's a feel-good thing for me, so I'm not bothered about the quality of it per se.

Melusine 02-02-2004 11:38 AM

There wasn't an option for 'moderately OK'. ;)
I can sing in tune, and though I haven't got a fantastic voice calling it "not too great" is a bit modest too :D
I do like to sing, in any case: in the shower, in a choir, in my room, usually hum a tune when I'm outside as well.

Kakero 02-03-2004 03:56 AM

When I start to sing people always tell me stop. I wonder why. ;)

I saw American Idol the other day ( or was it world idol? ). My god, some people really can't sing at all ( even I'm better ). make me wonder why on earth do they want to attend the audition and make a fool of themselves in front of the camera.

Please don't tell me you said Big Brother 4, arrgh i hate that so much, and it screws up all the other program times, aren't peopel sick of it yet?!

Niadh 02-03-2004 05:51 PM

I can car sing with noone around, and I sometimes quietly sing at work when noone is around.

johnny 02-04-2004 04:35 AM

Sure, they call me "Marco Bakker van de betonbuurt", of course it takes at least two cases of beer to get me started. :D

In other words..... NO !!! When i start singing the cows will stop giving milk, the birds stop singing, and rain starts pouring down.

SpiritWarrior 02-16-2004 07:22 PM

Sing all the time I do. I got my voice trained via classes at an early stage though. It's great cuz I love it and I took music in my final exams at school which basically knocked an exam from my fear list (since singing did not count as work or study in my mind).
