I read in a magazine yesterday that only 46% of women shower twice a day. That seemed quite low! So tell everyone about your bathing habits

Stratos 08-18-2003 05:26 PM

Is showering twice a day considered low?

I shower after every workday and after other manual labour, on days off I usually skip it if I haven't done anything that had made me perspire.

pritchke 08-18-2003 05:36 PM

I shower after every workday as well. That way I can always get into a nice clean bed as it never gets grimy and I only need to change the sheets once/week.

If you shower more than that you should feel guilty for wasting water a valuable resource. As a matter of fact I would say husbands and wives should shower together as much as possible just to save water and money. Since I am a cheapskate it cuts down the cost of my water utility by not showering more than once.

Well, I shower every day in the summer, every other day in the winter. I don't worry bout water that much...maybe cause I live in Canada...

Zarr 08-18-2003 06:03 PM

A shower?! What is that!? :D
Seriously though once every 1 or 2 days.

Agreed, men and women should shower more together.

I shower before work in the morning -- it helps me wake up, and I'll shave in the shower to lessen razor burn. Many days I work out after work. Well, I don't want to befoul my bed, so I'll shower on those days before bed. So, it's twice on those days -- unfortunately.

I, too, adhere to the combined shower philosophy, Rain and I normally shower together.

Senior Frog 08-18-2003 08:53 PM

Here's my take.
Once a day in the morning is enough unless work, workout, yardwork, etc. calls for another shower.

On bathing..
Why sit in a tub full of dirty water? Where exactly do you think the dirt and sweat you're washing off goes when the tub is plugged? Don't get me wrong. As an evening relaxation tool I think baths are great, but for cleaning? I find them sadly lacking.

On men and women sharing showers.
Now that's an EXCELLENT idea.

GokuZool 08-18-2003 10:26 PM

Every night

How can some people only have shower/bath only in the morning! That means they go to bed dirty. Bah

As Andy Rooney says, sure I find sitting in a tub of warm water as relaxing as anyone, but how you can get clean in a pool of dirty water is beyond me.

And adds to a happy marriage. A smile on the face bright and early every morning. :D

Showering is a plus. Showering enough to not have people around you faint is even better.

And I agree, man and a woman in a shower is better. Group activity!

Grojlach 08-19-2003 02:18 AM

At least once, sometimes twice a day (depending on how I feel at the end of the day, or if I've done some running that day). Never take a bath, though; not only for practical reasons (the bathroom where I live only has a shower), but also for the reasons already mentioned about hardly getting any cleaner whatsoever. ;)

Luvian 08-19-2003 02:50 AM

My new appartment does not have a shower, only one of those old bath with little legs. :(

Every time someone visit my appartment, they say "Cool! you've got one of those bath! They look so cool!". Well.... easy to say when you're not the one stuck with it...

I'd install a shower on it, but I've got very low water pression in the bathroom, I don't think it would work... :(

Suck to be me.

I thin every day becuase of soccer. If not, every two days or if I will lazy I go under cold shower and I am ready to work.

Kakero 08-19-2003 08:11 AM

I don't know what's the difference between a shower and a bath. I tend to shower/bath early in the morning before going to work and then another at night time before going to bed.

WillowIX 08-19-2003 09:08 AM

I'm the only one that showers twice a day (except weekends then it's once per day). :( I shower in the mornings and I have to shower in the evenings to get rid of the hospital smell. Plus I find it refreshing to take a shower after work. When I have the oppurtunity I take a bath instead. It's so relaxing.

Felix The Assassin 08-19-2003 12:39 PM

Quite intriguing poll, however you did not take into account my occupation!

When in Garrison I shower after PT (Physical Training), and at the end of the duty day. When deployed, or in the field a shower comes our way maybe twice a week. Now what you think of as shower in the field is not exactly what you are expecting. But, at least you can stand to smell yourself for the next few days!
My Bro's down in Iraq are sucking. 100+*F, full gear, and IBA (36 lbs), and can only strip down in secure areas! Oh, there are no secure areas. They wash up inside of the vehicles. If there are grunts, whew, can't go there.

I shower once per day, after I've done my daily workout (which isn't much. )
I also usually take a bath on Sundays, just for the heck of it.

Sorry! Didn't think of that sort of thing ;)

Now who (apart from Felix?) said they only rinse . Fess up!

I agree on the baths being yuck - ugh! And they are so NOT relaxing - if I want to relax I lie down on a bed or sofa, not a hard, cold enamel surface in dirty tepid water

Anyway I shower twice a day - I need to wash my hair every morning or I can't do anything with it, and getting into bed dirty is digusting! In my defense, we do have a water-efficient shower head and I certainly don't spend more than 5 minutes at night, and a little more in the morning (have a lot of hair ;) ).

johnny 08-19-2003 05:03 PM

Well, i'm one of those people who DO think that a bath is relaxing. I always bring a book, and a lot of times i fall asleep in the tub too, and wake up two hours or so later. No problem with that though.

And about soaking in your own dirt... it's quite simple. Once you're done, stand up and shower it off your body. :D

How do you get comfortable though? I get out of a bath with all my bones aching from resting against the hard surface.

johnny 08-19-2003 06:39 PM

Dunno Aelia, i just don't have any problems with that. I guess i'm a tough guy. :D

john 08-19-2003 07:11 PM

An old girl friend who used to live with me had a little blow up pillow she'd use to rest her head on,it had little sticky things to adhear it to the tub. She'd sit in there with a few candles for an hour or so,but she didn't like sharing a shower with anyone...shes gone now!

If your head gets sore (resting against the hard surface), my tip is to use a sponge. It works suprisingly well ;)

johhny, how can you read in a bath? Doesn't the book/magazine get all wet?

LOL no I meant 46% seemed a low percentage of women showering twice a day - I thought more women than that would shower twice a day instead of only once (washing hair and all).

Um a shower is when you stand under a spray of water which flows straight over you into the drain. A bath is sitting in a tub full of water which only drains away when you pull the plug out. Hence the 'sitting in dirty water' comments ;)

Now, someone chose 'other please specify' for the thing they use to wash with (soap etc) - but I don't think they specified! Tsk tsk ;)

No, when i lay down in the tub, i hold the book up. Unfortunately i did mess up a few books in the past, when i fell asleep while reading like that.

Kakero 08-20-2003 07:09 AM

won't your skin be soggy and easily peeled off if you stay too long on the bath tub?

Easily peeled off ? Dude, i don't know about you, but i'm not a Klingon or something. :D

wellard 08-23-2003 10:54 PM

I shower 3 times a day some days. it helps having two showers in the house and a lot of gas heated hot water But strangely enough on day shift I will not shower before going to work as I wake up about 4:30 AM. Unless of course something happened during the night to make me perspire When I come home the first thing I do is shower to become human, then I kiss the wife and kids hello!

However on weekends and days off I shower 3 times a day at least. morning, before bed, and every time I change to go out or get dirty around the house. For soap I use a tee tree oil version because it is mildly antiseptic and at work I get very dirty - and smelly

adam warlock 09-05-2003 08:39 PM

there is no shower at my place... just a plain ol' fashioned claw-footed bathtub

Reeka 09-06-2003 02:32 AM

Well,I only shower when I am going to wash my hair. The rest of the time I prefer a hot bath and to read in the bath tub. I love i!

Zuvio 09-06-2003 07:38 AM

Hey! I don't have a bathtub, so I got tricked into being a filthy kobold while I am NOT!

Bozos of Bones 09-06-2003 05:06 PM

Showering? Bathing!? Hmm... Have to try it out sometime.

Just kidding.

Or am I?

Hmm...

Indemaijinj 09-07-2003 06:33 AM

In the last question you needed the option "I don't have a bath tub".

Kakero, do you mean getting wrinkly fingers? I don't think my skin has ever peeled as a result of bathing!

Aelia, I wash with (cue Simpsons quote) "a rag on a stick." :D

(Or a sponge and some bath gel :D )

Arledrian 09-07-2003 01:35 PM

I love a nice relaxing bath once in a while. I do what Johnny does - read. I don't ever think that I'm sitting in dirty water because I'm never very filthy to begin with, so I don't know where that logic arises. Maybe you guys are all garden enthusiasts or something LOL?

I don't have a bath at the moment, so I have to make do with a shower. I use it once a day, in the mornings. I very rarely go under the shower twice a day, unless I've been playing soccer or something.

Beoulve 09-07-2003 03:08 PM

Just once a day, here, dark and early in the morning (it doesn't get bright until about 7:00, you know.) Occasionally, I don't shower on days that I don't have any school or church or anything, but if something does come up, I hope in real quick.

Mack_Attack 09-07-2003 09:27 PM

At least once a day I work in a large gas plant and my wife just points to the shower when I walk in the door.

Lord Lothar 09-07-2003 09:40 PM

Hey, Mack_Attack, long time no see. Where've you been?
