Mostly about music or bands/singers from the '80s or older.
Since there are to many to list; who are some of your favorite bands/singers?

antryg 11-05-2002 02:35 PM

For metal or hardcore check out Solerift
for techno check out Hallucinogen
late 60's-early 70's then Jethro Tull and Moody Blues
What about blues? esp. B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughn

70s: This was an awesome decade for music.
-Funk: Earth, Wind & Fire (simply awesome), Parliment Funkadelic (wow) among others
-Rock: So much to choose from! Zepplin, the Eagles, the Rolling Stones, among others.

60s: Motown baby! Some of my favorite music of all time! So many greats: the Temptations, the 4 Tops, Diana Ross & The Supremes, among others.

I don't know where to put Stevie Wonder (a musical genius) in terms of decade. But suffice to say, he's one of my faves as well.

You didn't list rap or hip-hop.

Gammit 11-05-2002 05:45 PM

Probably for a good reason, Lord Lothar. (: Just kidding, I noticed it too. Tough to put a finger on my favorite decade. The 60s were so innovative, 70s branched out well also, 80s discovered synthesizers, and I went to high school in the 90s... Although I will say that WAY too many bands sound alike now. Maybe it always was this way...?

his voice is absoletely amazing. I have to agree that the 70's is definitely my favorite decade as far as music goes. IMO it has all been downhill since then.

Rap and hiphop only emerged in the late eighties/early nineties, Lord Lothar. I think that is the reason for its absence. I like fifties, sixties and seventies music as far as oldies go. I like the Kinks, the Beatles, and many other (obscure) bands from that era.

Hmmm... I like all kinds of music, from Big Band to Metal to Jazz to Folk Music. I just like anything with "spirit" and emotion.
I guess, though, that my favourites include:
60's music
70's rock
80's alternative
In today's music scene, I like alternative and rock. I detest rap (not really music-- just a person talking with a drum in the background) and all that dance and hip hop stuff.

HolyWarrior 11-06-2002 02:01 PM

Yeah, early 70s was the best time for music, before it got packaged.

I love the great prog bands--Yes, Genesis, ELP, Rush, Kansas, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Nektar

The Ornery One 11-06-2002 06:18 PM

I know there were several types of music I didn't get listed, which is why I made sure to put "other" as a choice.

I mostly listen to rock from the "90s and later, but I listen to just about everything. There is even some rap that I don't find to awful to hear! In country music, I prefer anything from '80s and earlier. Most new country music is just rock with a southern accent and lot is remakes of older songs from country and rock.

My stereo has CDs everything like CCR, Johnny Horton, Jim Croce, Irish Rovers, AC/DC, and Native American flutes.

...Though the first hiphop hit was from 1980, The Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight. Hiphop has been around since the late 70's, it just didn't become widely popular save a few exceptions until the second half of the 80's.

Grojlach 11-18-2002 03:47 PM

As for an on-topic answer, I can enjoy some Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground, The Cure, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, early David Bowie and Joy Division every once and awhile... And there some more artists from that period I listen to. I just stick to more recent stuff normally, though. ;)

Yeah, I like old music. Classical music that is, doesn't get much older than that ;) :D
But I listen to e.g. David Bowie, Sisters Of Mercy, Depeche Mode, The Mission, Pink Floyd, etc. I guess that counts as old as well...

HolyWarrior 11-24-2002 01:17 AM

I'm a progger, but I listen as much to the new stuff (Spock's Beard, Dream Theater) as the classics (Yes, Genesis)

khazadman 11-27-2002 11:53 PM

I like Pink Floyd above all others.
