Does anyone know of a mod that would allow me use throwing axes while using a second weapon or shield in my offhand? This is one of those really stupid silly rules where throwing axes fall under the same category as bows (ranged weapon), however it makes absolutely no sense since throwing axes are 1-handed while bows require two. My joy at getting the axe of hurling turned to disgust when I tried to equip it on my ranger.

I don't know of a mod, but you should be able to use the throwing axe with a shield.

Hello,
I believe that Lharae is referring to not being able to have a throwing weapon in one hand and another one-handed weapon in another. I think that he may have a point since such weapons can either be used in melee or as ranged weapons. Maybe the program can't handle deciding which facet of the weapon to use?? I would like to weild this way, as well, but can't.

It's a mod or patch for someone to make. If I had the coding knowledge I'd do it myself.

Hmmm, I'll bring it up at the next BGmods meeting, just please send me a private message to remind me.

That's already been added to the list of ideas for the "Realism MOD," which will do things like make the Frostreaver Axe a 2-Handed weapon, allow Druids to wear the Ankheg Plate, make Anomen a Priest of Helm--and allow you to Dual-Wield thrown weapons like Azuredge, provided that you have the weapon set to its 'melee-only' abilitiy. The game engine can't handle attacking with a melee weapon and a ranged weapon simultaneously.

Sounds good Looking foreward to when it comes out.

Thanks

NO! you can backstab with any melee weapon that a pure-class thief can use.

i'm surprised that none of the hard core gamers havent thought this was a little cheesey. How can you throw a 1 handed weapon when your body is moving through the motions of swinging another melee weapon? I suppose it would be possible but you accuracy would be horrible.

Lharae 09-13-2002 11:16 AM

Chances are if you're throwing the weapon you're not in melee range yet, so your not going to be swinging the other weapon. Yes throwing one weapon and swinging another would very difficult, even more than throwing two which is common in fantasy games (see Warcraft trolls). BG2 actually accounts for this by inflicting a -4 AC penalty on anyone using a missile weapon in melee.

Dundee Slaytern 09-13-2002 11:30 AM

Actually, it is a -8 penalty for using a ranged weapon within melee distance. Not that it matters to my Archer anyway, he stills hit.

Oh cool, then I won't have to bring it up. However, I do have a request, If I compile all of the ideas we all have so far, will you put it up on a webpage called "Future Possible Ideas"?

Damn right. Email me the lot and it'll go up. I just uploaded the new, improved Thief MOD page, and will upload the "Main MOD Menu" when I go back home to get the file I forgot to put on my floppy.
