Which country do you believe to be the ugliest geographically speaking and why?

Megabot 07-19-2002 03:38 AM

I can`t think on any contry in this case!

Morgan_Corbesant 07-19-2002 12:28 PM

i would have to say most of the middle-east. im not a big fan of sand and deserts, so i just cant get into it. i visited Egypt once, it was nice, but just too damn sandy. i dont even like to go to the beach anymore though, heh.

Moni 07-24-2002 08:43 AM

Mexico would make a nominee...nothing is worse than overpopulated slums where people's homes are literally built out of trash but there are also third world countries that differ little.

the desert didn't bother me (I was in the Cairo area, visting from Kuwait) but the trash everywhere was what got to me, I'm not sure which country is the worst everywhere has bad things about it, so I'd have to say anything not in Idaho ;)

Italy, without a doubt (of the one's I've been to that is ;) )
In Italy, most people don't really care how their houses look from the outside as long as it's fine on the inside.
You could see a house from a distans and wonder if someone really lived in that piece of junk, and then you went in and it was as good as any four star hotel ;)

My vote is Turkey. If anybody has visited any of the shanty towns will know exactly what I'm on about... or maybe even one of the African third world countries.

Germany between 1935-45

Imagine nominating a country only to receive a stiff reply from one or more IW members who happen to come from that country -- this thread would quickly turn into a flame-war and the mods would quickly come and lock it up.

In view of this, I thnk we would do well to think at least twice before starting threads of this nature.

I think Afghanistan is one of the most ugly countries in the world, nothing but desert and mountains and totally screwed up towns.

Sorcerer Alex 08-07-2002 07:27 AM

France. I don't want to offend anyone here, but it's just not the place for me.

K T Ong 08-07-2002 08:29 AM

Why isn't France the place for you, Arledrian? Just curious...

Maybe he doesn't like wine ? :D

Sorcerer Alex 08-07-2002 09:16 AM

It's not so much France that bothers me, it's the people in it. So I suppose writing this under 'ugliest country' isn't really right. I've just been treated badly every time I've visited France, many people there seem to hold a certain grudge towards foreigners. I've been kept waiting over an hour in two different restaurants on different occasions because they couldn't/didn't want to serve me. Probably because of the language barrier, but I really don't mind using a bit of sign language if need be. But that's just a single example, I have many more. Again, it's probably all just a clash of cultures and mentality, but I've visited France five times and can't say I've ever really enjoyed my stay there. I'm sorry if this insults anyone, I didn't really want to write this, but K T Ong provided the proverbial elbow in my rib

And Johhny's right, I don't like wine. I'm a beer man ;)

It was just a very slight nudge, okay? :D

Dunno about French contempt for foreigners, but I thought the French composers Debussy and Ravel were just great. Just my views, okay, Arledrian?

</font>
That's fine with me, but please note that I tried not to use the word 'contempt' or anything similar, I think that's far too strong a word

I can totally agree with that. Everything is in the eye of the beholder...

Ok now here's what i think, there's beauty in everything that exists, nothing absolutely nothing is without beauty, even chaos and evil are beautiful.

Yanez 09-13-2002 02:40 PM

Hooray for Wacky! I couldn't agree more. There is no universally beautiful country, because some like mountains, others jungles or deserts, and people all over the world are different, some are good some are bad and the same goes for cultures or governments.

Moni 09-14-2002 09:11 PM

I can see a bad government but what would you call a bad culture?
(Forgive me if this question seems blatantly ignorant, I've got roast beef on the brain LOL)

Yanez 09-16-2002 02:25 PM

Thanks Moni, for pointing out my lapse concerning bad cultures. [Falls down to his knees and covers his head with ashes]
There is NO BAD CULTURES! (Although, some of them came as result of bad governments, but I'm not saying that they are bad)
