it was back in the summer of '93 at portland meadows in portland oregon. the opening band blind melon. they got the 15000+ people worked into a dancing frenzy. the second band, my favorite at the time, was pearl jam. they played on awesome set that lasted a little over two hours, bringing out special guest victoria sweet to sing a duet with eddie vedder. the headliner was rock and roll all-time great, neil young. he played close to three hours, covering songs from his whole career. i remember wandering back to the car with my friends thinking that if i never saw another show, that that would be okay. The best concert I've ever seen is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers rock the Gund Arena. they played for like 3 hours straight and just totally rocked. I saw Roger Waters and I saw Bob Dylan, but out of all of them Tom Petty just rocked the house the most.

By FAR, the Toadies and Diffuser this past fall. Been to too many concerts (as my hearing will attest), and it's really refreshing to see a band that isn't pre-packaged, and seems to really care about music. Not that the bands mentioned thus far are pre-packaged, I just really had a great time at this particular show...

Prodigy 1995
Ramstein 2001 Both great |
I've seen many concerts so also more than one good one.
One of them is Orbital at Werchter/Belgium some years ago, splendid. The concert was open-air and it was getting dark. The stage was dark too, the only thing you could see were four lights moving around (the guys had this thing on their head with two spirals ending in a light bulb). Another one was Loop Guru at Dour Music Festival/Belgium, also some years ago and open-air. When they started playing it was raining. After some songs they said: "and now it's time for the rain dance". And indeed, before the end of the song the raining stopped and the sun started shining. Of course they had seen the clouds before saying what they said, but it was still kind of magical. |
Hmmm, tough one, I've been to a lot of concerts. Best one was probably Wâldrock 1996, because it was the first time I saw Slayer live, and I met my nowadays best friend there.
Close second is Slayer and Sepultura in the Statenhal, The Hague in 1998. Or was it '99? Have to look that up, I've still got the ticket, 'cause it has the autographs of all four Sepul-guys on it. |
#1) Tenacious D, Long Beach Arena (Long Beach, California)
#2)The Cult (House of Blues, Las Vegas) tied with Green Day (Cox Pavillion, Las Vegas) Also saw a good show from H2o in New Jersey last year. Will be seeing Green Day/Blink 182 and Tenacious D in April. |

A Dire Straits concert in an old Romain theater. Magic !

John Fogerty (from Creedence Clearwater Revival) concert four years ago, it ROCKED! Got third row seats too, front and center! :D
|
My favorite was the Legendary Pink Dots in SF a maybe 7 years ago. It was at the Kennel Club, I think it was called, and it was a small venue and I got to meet the guys.
I also really enjoyed a Japanaese noise band whose name eludes me at the moment. By the time they were done playing, everything on stage had been broken and the screamer, as opposed to singer, was bleeding. The Psychik TV gig in Los Angeles I saw when I was 19 was dope phat tight, yo. Thee Temple Ov... lol The concerts I wish I could see would be Current 93 and Coil. |
In 1994 (I think) I saw George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers at the old Aladdin Theatre for the Performaing Arts here in Vegas. The show totally rocked. The whole audience was on their feet dancing for the entire show.

R.E.M. in Prag, several years ago.
|
Probably Metallica at the Milton Keynes Bowl some years ago.
|
Self has never been to a concert, so self says none. Fuzzy, eh? Moo... Weasels nibble the chairs! Moo!!! Err... ahem... as I said, never been to any concerts...

So hard to decide...I've been going to rock concerts since 1976 LOL.
The few that I actually remember (lol, shut up!) and that stand out the most would be Aerosmith (the first one), Queen (back in "the day" lol), Ozzy's Blizzard of Oz (seen twice, once with Randy Rhoades and then a month later with his replacement), Tesla/GreatWhite/White Lion/Kixx<---who I listened to homemade tapes of when I was a teen because my best friend was their cousin , Robert Plant, Def Leppard's return concert after their drummer lost his arm, and the last one I went to; No Doubt/Bush/The Goo Goo Dolls where I went crowd surfing (at 34 years of age) and got to meet the bands after the concert...I actually didn't see much of that one, I was having too much fun with the crowd lol! I'd really like to see a lot of the newer bands that are out there these days but I'm old enough to be everyone's mom, including the band members! LOL |
The best i have gone to is Pink Floyd consert here in Norway and an Frank Sinatra consert in the same weekend it was in the capital city of Norway Oslo and it was outside consert`s in the sun warmed good days! also Pink Floyd friday and Frank Sinatra saturday!!!But it was damn beer consuming days he he! :D

Probably the Queensryche Building Empires tour in Cleveland, OH. I think having 5th row seats had something to do with it.
Second is probably the most recent QR/Iron Maiden/Halford tour that came to Cleveland last year. Talk about three of my favorite bands.. (Halford played old Priest tunes..) It ranks #2 solely due to the magnitude of the bands that played. |
OZZY at the Paramount
KISS Farewell tour Continental airline arena 3rd row |
the best show i've seen today was an Everclear show at riverstages in nashville. but thats only because i missed Tool when they came through, but The Dave Mathews Band will be here in july. that should be good
|
My three favorites;
Godspeed You Black Emperor - saw them play a couple of months ago; they were simply awesome, and the venue suited them perfectly. Radiohead on their tent tour - amazing atmosphere for amazing music Reading Festival 1999 - just had a dam good 3 days |
Morbid Angel and Slayer concert. Awesome!
|
My senior year, I got to see Metallica and fronting for them were two bands...Suicidal Tendancies, and supposed to have been Alice in Chains, but they had just broke up and that really pissed me off, but Candlebox tok the stage and rocked! So,,,that was the best I have ever been to. I still hate that I didn't get to see Alice in Chains though...their music kicks ass!
|
1966 Saw the Rolling Stones in a small theater in Cleve. They were great back then..Also In early 70s saw Michael Blookfield in a small club in San Francisco....John
|
The best stage show I ever saw was Alice Cooper on the Constrictor tour back in 1986. During that show he decapitated himself that was just incredible.
Probably the best for just music was in 1985 BTO opened for Van Halen. BTO came out and kicked ass for almost an hour and I remember thinking how is Van Halen ever going to follow that. Well they not only followed but they REALLY KICKED ASS for almost two hours. BTW that was their first tour with Sammy as lead singer. |
Oh man, this is a hard question to answer. I have been to so so many shows that it's almost impossible to pick one BEST show of them all. I'll list a few...
--> the Melvins (when they opened for Helmet's last show at the 930 club in DC)...this was also the first show i ever saw in the US. --> Portishead (again, at DC's 930 Club)...they were amazing. i was completely in awe. --> Frank Black & the Catholics (at Starr Hill brewery in Charlottesville, VA)...not only was it a kickass energy show, but they busted out with FIVE Pixies songs (as fans would know, FB playing pixies nowadays is a blessed occassion indeed.) and, the best show that i COULD have seen: --> any Pixies show (i would give my left nut, i swear) --> Radiohead at Bull Run park in Manassas, VA (i had TICKETS....and then a huge rainstorm made them cancel BOTH nights they were playing...i still cringe and mope about this, and it was last summer.) I MUST SEE RADIOHEAD. MUST. MUST. |
