What is your Favorite fantasy race and why?

Mine has to be dwarves, because, they're funny as hell, strong, magic resistant, like the mountains, can drink, and most often carry a nice sized Battle axe.

Lifetime 01-16-2002 01:03 PM

Drow. The closest thing to humans there are (yes, even more than fantasy humans :D )

J'aran 01-16-2002 01:08 PM

That's a tough question. There are many settings for fantasy stories/games and each has slight to major differences in the races that occupy it.

In general I would say Dwarves, because usually their culture is inspired on ancient Celtic or Germanic culture, and I'm really interested in both.

And I hold a love for outcasts from evil races, for example in the Forgotten Realms setting I instantly like all good-aligned Drow, Duergar or (Half-)Orcs. Individuals that overcome their society's inherent malice.

I totally agree with you. Dwarves are my favoyrite race for the same reasons.

Redblueflare 01-17-2002 01:00 PM

Elves, (yeah I like drow too.) because they always seem to know what's going on, and love to tell you in some sort of riddle.

adam warlock 01-17-2002 01:15 PM

DROW - because of their lifespan, I can write plenty of stories/adventures! and they were rarely seen on the surface. :3

Sorcerer Alex 01-18-2002 07:15 PM

I like Drow too. The only thing I dislike is the females' general resentment towards males. I was outraged while playing BG II. But I like the way they look and act. They're my favourite all right ;)

Grand-Ranger 01-18-2002 11:07 PM

Thats a tough one...I like all of them for idffrent reasons.

Humans cause they are so flexiable

Elfs becasue of there finness

Dwarfs cause of the same reasons of J'aran

Gnomes cause there funny

Halflings cause there fun to play

Half-orcs cause you can kick ass with them

Glorfindel 01-18-2002 11:17 PM

I like the Elves because of everything that makez them elves :D

Aurican 01-19-2002 12:01 AM

I like elves because they epitomize everything I value in battle. They are graceful, agile and quick. They tend to rely more on speed than strength. They are crack shots with longbows,(my favorite weapon), and are great with longswords and spears. They excel at magic and weapon craft. They are very in-touch with the earth yet set apart from its inhabitants giving them a sense of mystery. The pointy ears and large eyes are a very attractive element too. I like tolkein elves more than DnD because they are typically taller than the average human yet of slimmer build.

LennonCook 01-19-2002 12:18 AM

I like Elves because they are very agile (dex bonus), and specifically High Elves because theyre the first i ever heard of.

Ryanamur 01-19-2002 11:38 AM

Gilles Villeneuve vs Jacques Villeneuve in a McLaren!

Oh, you're looking for D&D type of race. I'd like Rohirim from MERP, the best.

Kaz 01-19-2002 04:53 PM

I like elves... instead of giving you a reason, I'll quote Aurican, who summed it up perfectly:

BTW, I count drow among elves. I like everything about them - except the fact that they're evil! :(

After elves comes dragons (good) because of their grace, beauty and abilities (flying! ), yet also their wisdom and mercy (I said GOOD dragons).

Blind_Prophet 01-19-2002 11:41 PM

I like drow because they show no mercy on the battle field. I also like them because of there just very interesting their society life style of that.

Lord Killjoy 01-24-2002 11:00 PM

thri-kreen from dark sun. They are unstoppable butt kickers if done right.

Neb 01-25-2002 10:51 AM

Well, I've got three favorites:

#1: Thri-keen: Natural psionics, four arms to wield many weapons and they look cool, too bad they die after 35 years or so though, and have a low intelligence.

#2: Elves, they're wise, agile, magically skilled, attuned to whatever enviroment their particular sub-breed of elf lives in.

#3: Dragons, ancient, wise(Except for a few kinds, like the white ones.), intelligent(Again, except for a few kinds.), strong, I like Gem dragons the best, neutral, more intelligent than both Chromatic and Metallic dragons and powerful psionics as well as having priest and mage spells.

Sir ReGiN 01-25-2002 11:09 AM

Werewolves
The fact that you can change shape, has always fascinated me

Oh yes, werewolves are cool, VERY cool , add them as number 4 on my list

Lord Shield 01-26-2002 09:25 AM

I don't think werewolves are race, supposed to be a curse

In 3rd Edition I like Humans because of the bonus skill points/initial feat

But I like RPing Dwarves best

Konfuzed and Zany 01-26-2002 01:13 PM

Elven Coz Well
They elves be
I like Grugachs (Wild Elves) best

True Lycanthropes do exist, for them it's not something that can be cured and is completely under their control.

K T Ong 01-27-2002 11:58 AM

The Trynnie from Wizardry 8 are kind of lovable, actually.

Conversely, the Umpani just strike me as... kind of thick.

BLACKSWAN 01-27-2002 08:56 PM

My favourite race was always Elves, especially Drow. They are simply fascinating - appearance, society, weaponry ... all is so complete different from the other races.
Damn, that in the all of the CRPGs of the Forgotten Realms, I never could choose to play as Drow - or missed I a game?

Garnet FalconDance 01-28-2002 12:27 PM

Half-elves. Best of both worlds, so to speak. ('course it might something to do with the fact I'm half-elf?)

Dragons--had to mention them or at least one of the *several* sharing my house might take umbrage and decide to educate me on their attributes....

Warhammer 02-06-2002 10:16 AM

You do know that practically every Dragon - in AD&D universe at least - can shapeshift to a Human form, don't you? And very pretty Humans they make too.

Darkman 02-12-2002 05:09 AM

I like halflings and dwarves the best. Halflings because they know what's best in life: lounging around smoking pipe weed and eating second breakfasts all day long Dwarves because they're as subtle as a train wreck and tougher than a box of nails.

Elves are a little too... proud for my tastes
