Just wanted to now what everyones favorite board game is. I just can't get enough of Axis and Allies.
|
Tie between, Axis and Allies, Robo Rally and Chess.
|
Has anyone here played Diplomacy before? It is a very cool game. It is good with lots of people as you can get involved in all sorts of double dealings and backstabbings.
But I still think Warhammer has a special place in my heart. |
My favourite:chess
very quiet for a long time.... followed by stratego, risk and axis+allies |
Risk and then, good old-fashioned Monopoly. Gotta love the classics.
|
If a tabletop game is considered a board game, definately Warhammer Fantasy. No arguement, nothing even comes close.
If not, well, I enjoyed the Settlers of Catan tremendously (not sure if that's the English name), 999 Games has a good list of very interesting and surprisingly original games. The oldies are good too, but a bit dusty. Too much time spent in the cupboard. |
Axis and Allies! Oh yeah!
Fuzzy, do you have the computer version? I've played alot online, and other than a few bugs to work around it's great. Check out www.spring1942.com for ranked play. Did you try Iron Blitz? Basically the exact same game with new options and graphics. It had lots of possibilities, but Hasbro didn't support it. They shipped it with bugs from A&A they'd already fixed with patches?!?!?! Nothing beat's the boardgame for fun though. Any scenario you want, any options. House Rules, well...um....THEY RULE! |

I like the computer version, but I agree that the table version is more fun. |
Another voter for Axis & Allies...
|
Cosmic Encounters!!
and then: Settlers of Kittain Chess Risk Stratego Scrabble Lord of the Ring Card games: The bean game Snapchen Jagd Uno |

The World at War room is fun, but you encounter lots of quitters. Nothing worse than playing for a couple of hours and then your opponent disappears when things are going so good. If you go into the ladder room and ask, they'll tell you about the different clubs represented and they're all free and easy to sign up with. Another thing is there message forum are filled with great strategys. It's fun to have your win/loss ratio recorded and to gain ranks for wins and total number of games played. |

I love good 'ol Scrabble and Monopoly. The old ones are the best ones ;)
|
Favourite is DEFINITELY Trivial Pursuit!!!
|
Chess is key, definitely the most classic boardgame ever. monopoly rules too...trivial pursuit can be fun but it seems like i never really know about 80% of the answers and just need to sit there looking like i'm pondering until i blurt out "i have NO idea".
Jenga is badass too...(if you'd consider it a "boardgame", i guess) |

I know it's a little ,but there are many people here who like to play chess, myself included.Who wants to play chess online?
I'd like that, there are many sites where you can play.So if anyone has any suggestions, let's hear it.I'll always accept if someone wants to play chess against me. |

Then I may try and tkae advantage of it. Otherwise, I'd lose right away. Now my cousin, who is three years younger, is actually a decent chess player. Won a few first prizes and runner-ups in Groningen, and I think in the rest of the Netherlands as well. But he's hardly ever online, and I think he prefers beating everyone face to face Sorry, not much help here ;) EDIT: I just remembered: I've lost from the computer in easy mode more times than I've won :D |

That's too bad guys :(
At least you read some chess-related magazines And Legolas, you're right about beating someone face to face. To actually see your opponent' face, when you've just played the decisive move, nothing even comes close to that feeling |
Monopoly and Trivial Pursuits get my votes.
Has anyone ever heard of Totopoly - it is a horse racing game along the lines of Monopoly? |

To actually see your opponent' face, when you've just played the decisive move, nothing even comes close to that feeling

That's not completely true... I was told you chessplayers already win when there are like twenty turns left to play, but I don't realise I've lost until there are two moves to go (three on a good day ) To actually see your opponent' face, when your opponent realises you've played the decisive move, nothing even comes close to that feeling Okay, so I'm exaggerating my lack of chess skills. I know how each piece moves and I just learned there's something called hitting en passant (rough translation, probably not too far from the truth). Opened up a whole new world where I race across the field to do just that :D And I actually did beat the computer on some occasions |
Most of the time, your opponents know it if the decisive move is played, and realize it immediately, sorry for not being specific enough . So actually,we're saying the same here.
Nice move,en passant isn't it?? Just waiting for pawns to come forward.... |

I learned to play chess in the sixth grade, and I still play at about the same level...lol. One problem for me was that no one I knew cared for the game. I taught some friends, but they only played occasionally to please me, and that's not a good learning enviroment. :( |
I'm from Holland Ron,so i have no idea what your age is in 6th grade
 you're right about the environment.I learned playing when i was 7,so i'm playing 25 years now.Still with as much fun as i started with and still playing regularly. |
what is en' passant?
also my favorite is risk, whenever me and my family play there is some much screaming and... its a beautiful thing... |
when you play a pawn 2 places forward(so only possible in the first move of that pawn, for example c2-c4),and it lands on a place directly next to an opponets pawn(in this case b4 or d4),your opponent may hit the pawn on c4,as if it went just 1 field forward, but only in the move directly after the pawn went 2 fields forward.Hope it is clear this way.

Axis and Allies is an all time favourite
Pente--leather board and the glass beads?anyone else know this one Squad Leader is tops.Almost to technical, some games have taken over three weeks.Don,t bump into board. If you have cats, keep them as far away from the board as possible.Nothing ruins 4 days of gaming like a curious cat skidding across the top of the gameboard surface.Pieces everywhere. |
RISK!!!! RISK!!!! RISK !!!!
i love taking over the world, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!! |
