....that everyone in town had turned on their fans and air conditioning which caused a blackout for 7 hours (*thinks to self* knew there's a reason that I brought a generator...)

It was really hot in the ole nation's capital today. Don't think it was 95, but my arms got burnt from taking a 15 minute car drive. I don't like such heat.

It is so hot here that we had to put the peanut butter in the fridge so that we would not have to "pour" a peanut butter sandwich!
In AZ, that is a year round necessity!
We just "officially" neared the 100 mark and expect to surpass it any day now.

Try it out here in the great American South. Its hot like that but try it with a 100% humidity factor. The air is almost too thick to breathe.

In Cuba our low is 70 degrees. And that's our *winter*. Doesn't get any colder than that. Well, we can go to the beach all year round. Nothing wrong with that.

In Germany, we have wonderful swimming-pool temperatures. But I didnīt even get a sunburn playing basketball all afternoon. Itīs just perfect.

The temperature here today at 3pm was 97 degrees. Ouch. I can only imagine how horrible it is in other, hotter parts.

The temperature here in Missouri has been in 90's nearly every day, and up over 100 a couple of times. The heat index is well over 100, usually 110+. Plus, it's incredibly humid, which makes everything that much worse.

Two summers ago, I lived in a house with a couple of other people that didn't have air conditioning. We had a candleholder on the with a regular candlestick in it. It got so incredibly hot inside that house that the candle actually melted a bit and bent over at an angle. That also happens to be the summer that I broke my ankle, so I got to spend 3 or 4 weeks at that house, in a cast, with just a fan. (We did eventually have to put a window unit in the room I was staying in.) Needless to say, I stayed with my parents for about 3 or 4 weeks while I had the cast on so I could enjoy some air conditioning http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Sazerac 07-25-2001 03:54 PM

so hot that...

* -you see a dog chasing a cat and they were both WALKING
* -you want to swim down the road instead of walk on it
* -you can leave your leftovers from the fast-food place in the car and they'll still be heated 4 hours later
* -you expect any moment to be attacked by salamanders and fire elementals
* -Siberia starts looking like an attractive residence possibility
* -half the people are barefoot and it's in an OFFICE
* -if you "take a leak" in the woods, it evaporates before it hits the ground
* -you can fry eggs on your car hood quicker than you can on your stove
* -you decide to go indoors to get a sun tan
* -mascara runs before you even put it on
* -ladies don't even think about panty hose until late September
* -if you buy a steak at the grocery store, it's cooked by the time you get it home
* -grass comes in three shades: yellow, brown, and dead
* -the top of your outdoor thermometer just exploded
* -the "cold tap" on the water faucet is a sick joke
* -your clothes are dry before you can even get them hung on the line
* -you have to run the AC in your car for 10 minutes before you can even dare to touch the metal buckle of the seatbelt
* -you begin to wonder if there's sunblocks with SPF values in the triple-digit range

Ok... I can't resist! I have to do this! Most of the year Minnesota weather sux big time (I hate winter!) ... but this is the week to be living in north central Minnesota! The rest of the country is melting, yet we have wonderful weather! Moderate temperatures (75 degrees farenheit), sunshine, light breezes, cool nights good for sleeping. Ahhhhh ... finally! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Sazerac ... that list was wonderfully funny -- and too true!

Er... swimming pool temperatures?
Two days in this whole year. We reached our highest temperature in the whole year a couple of days ago: 28 degrees celsius (~80 Farenheit i think) http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
We even got freed from school, one of the nice things about Germany http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
Of course we dont have snow days cause it doesnt snow here but slush

PS i think were getting another low pressure area in a few days which means
a) wear a pullover if you dont want to freeze to death
b) rain, rain all day long (i bike to school http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif )

I live in South Carolina, yet seldom bother to run the air conditioner. Our yard is so well shaded by trees that it isn't necessary. Ah, the simple power of Mother Nature.

People who build houses and cut down all the trees in the yard in South Carolina (and there are a lot of them) are just insane, imo. There is something monumentally stupid about that, a microcosm of humankind's often ridiculous approach to nature. Let's see, we'll build a house, cut down all the shade trees so that it bakes (and i do mean "bake" quite literally) in the Carolina sun, so that we'll have to blast the air conditioner all summer long to keep from suffocating -- yea, what a great idea!

Lestat 08-25-2001 02:23 AM

Ahh... Nice and Cool here... 78 degrees outside, 72 in here...

Kaz 08-30-2001 05:46 PM

Temperature has dropped radically the last few days. It's okay during the day (~18 celsius I think) but I almost froze to death biking to school this morning. Pullover isn't enough, you need a jacket and mittens! Luckily it hasn't been raining yet, just drizzling slightly.

today was a nice, cool 101. Not bad after consecutive days of recordbreaking heat (107 in the shade).

Ladyzekke 08-30-2001 08:26 PM

It's so hot here, even the mosquitos say "ah, nevermind, let her go, I'm too hot to move away from the shade of this grass."

It's so hot I slipped in the shower and I hadn't even turned the water on yet.

It's so hot we grilled lobster in the backyard...wait...no... sorry, that was me trying to lay out in the sun... sorry.

It's so hot, I'm contemplating putting a mattress in our deep freezer.

Gods, the weather has been awful for 2 weeks now. We have weather we generally get in November or December - it is COLD, wet, wet, wet, rainy, rainy, cold,... I have had this really awful cold for about 2 weeks now, today I felt so bad I stayed home http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif It is raining all the time, it is cold (yes I know I said tha already) and it doesn't seem to be getting better soon. And - I can only say "Sun? What's that? Sun?" it's been overcast for about 2 weeks as well. I can never decide which I hate more, this cold rainy weather or the hot humid weather.

Well, after several days of heavy rain (cold, cold, heavy rain, and wind!!) I am wrinkled as though I have been sitting in the bathtub for too long!
The sun has come out now, but I got soaked on the way to work this morning and have wet legs from the point where my waterproof ends to the bottom of my feet. I have been sitting at work in wet trousers - that can NOT be good for your health...
