While I'm on this combat kick. How do you like to play. Do you use backstab a lot? How about a quick mage spell from the confines of improved invisibility?

I like to backstab with my bladesinger(F/M/T). He only uses magic if confronted by a wizard that needs defenses dropped. I also duel wield because that gives a lot of damage when used in conjunction with backstabing. Also, I feel that duel wielding works in favor of the bladesinger ideal.

Cheers Everyone!

If the pc is theif (single or dual class), he will backstab a lot and he will dual wield. ALthough I usually use the run and hide tactic with Boots of Speed, invisibility potion is also welcome. For NPCs (thief class characters, Jan, Nalia, Imoen, Yoshimo), they usually do the exploring work in my first couple of games......once I know where the enemies are in later games, their job is to fire arrows or cast spells.

Well being the brutal fierce howler of combat I prefer dirty close combat with either two weapon style (celestial katana with the Crom fayer hammer is good combo! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif) or why not my favourite+ the vorpal blade http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

Being espacially fond of Rangers i also like to make impressive attacks with distance weapon like a barrage of arrows and bolts and slingstones http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

Well newest combo is a wizard/fighter making it rather fun to dual wield after you have cast a "hold person/monster/undead spell hehehe

OK, backstab is a good way to, wll simple I like to fight in a way that makes me win http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif hehe

I'm an up close and personal type player. I mostly rely on straight fighting a very rarely use things like backstabbing or magic. A big sword will solve most problems as far as I'm concerned. I like defeating the monsters based on stats and equipment of the party, not killing them with magic. My Pc fighter will charge forward and attract all the monsters while the rest of the party lends missile support. Currently duel wielding Celestial Fury and Malakar(sp?).

With my PC, which is a Fighter/Mage (dual), I like to go the hack...
It is not very interesting, but it does kick arse quite cronicly.
I dual-weild Long Swords, and I am all powerful!!!

I only use magik, to kill minions, or in opposition to a strong mage.

I like to backstab. I also like to fool the monsters with decoys, and kill them from behind. Killing demons or pitfiends can be so easy if you have a mage casting protection from magical weapons to take the hits, and then let your fighter/thief backstab a few times (even though the pitfiend/demon see him/her).

I don't need very good fighters, as long as they have a little chance to hit, they are useful. Casting spells is fun/useful therefore I do it all the time.

To sum up: I mostly use thieves and mages in combat. If there is anything left to fight, I let the fighters kick in.

Two weapon style with scimitars, sabres, longswords or katanas... or eight arms with two of each of the previous swords.

***I also have a preference for John Woo style, two guns and kung fu***

Dual wield. And Aurican a Bladesinger is Fighter/Mage not a Fighter/Mage/Thief

Yes, I know that, but I find the concept of an elf that cannot sneak kind of weak. I was going for the roleplaying aspect.

Actually, if you want to get technical, a bladesinger cannot use magic while they duel wield either, how would you implement that into the game?

I know that to but I dual wield because I can not cast magic and defend at the same like the PnP Bladesinger

I tend to be a hack 'n slasher. I like to have a couple of tanks to head out the team, plus a Cleric, who is also handy with a mace. If the opposition looks tough, I will get my Mages to chuck a few fireballs or other area spells to soften 'em up before I send in the tanks - and of course, my Thief checks out the terrain first, so I know where to throw, or set up an ambush, before she gets 'em to chase her... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...hterpurple.gif

hack 'n slash is one of the preferred types of gaming for me, altho it gets boring after awhile. im experimenting w/ a magic-strong party, and i kick ass cuz 3 high-lvl magic missiles w/ bows and crossbows firing off can take an ettin down in 1 turn! so i like to balance magic w/ fighting, tho i tend to go fighting and ignore my mages...seeing as how they die so easily in melee combat

Lord Shield 05-13-2001 06:54 PM

Depends on the character choice
.
My first game is alwasy with a tank - i lead creatures from the edge of groups into ambushes and butcher them
Second game may either be a different tank
Whether or not, my nextgame will be magical
My 3rd character is ALWAYS named John Lennon (no matter WHAT the CRPG)
My 4th game (if I go that far) will multi-class whichever worked best - in BG2 I went Fighter/Mage/Thief and loved the hide-backstab-run-hide-repeat routine

Black Knight 05-14-2001 05:14 PM

Being a tank is fun, going in swords glistening in the sun is great . . .but throwing 15 magic missles from three magic users is fun two . . .http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

My character is a level 19 fighter and I love dual wield with the equalizer and the blackrazor. (Imported.) I use every fighting style, but my assasin always goes into the battle first with a few rings of invisibility. How's that for a strategy? Do you know anything else that can do a 102 damage with a critical hit? No don't say sunray.
